No doubt led to many of the stories of American troops stationed in England adopting dogs or making a dog a mascot..   

Still if you were a dog owner in Japan your dog probably ended up on the menu.  During their bleakest part of the war, dogs were now food, and you did not have a choice when they came to take them away.
