General in Charge of Nuclear Missiles Is Fired
By ROBERT BURNS AP National Security Writer

The Air Force fired the general in charge of its nuclear missiles on Friday, just two days after a Navy admiral with top nuclear weapons responsibilities was sacked. Both men are caught up in investigations of alleged personal misconduct, adding to a cascade of turmoil inside the nation's nuclear weapons force.

The Air Force removed Maj. Gen. Michael Carey, a 35-year veteran, from his command of 20th Air Force, responsible for all 450 of the service's intercontinental ballistic missiles. Carey, who took his post in Wyoming in June 2012, will be reassigned pending the outcome of an investigation into personal misbehavior, the service said.

The Air Force would not specify what Carey is alleged to have done wrong, but two officials with knowledge of the investigation indicated that it was linked to alcohol use.

Something is going down, ladies and gentlemen.

Who fires generals at a time like this?  Unless Barack Obama is not confident that he could trust his generals to follow orders.  HIS orders.

This on the heels of him firing the Mediterranean Fleet Commander(s) and generals during his Libya and Egyptian dalliances.

Even a minor foul up will get one relieved of duty when it comes to nuclear weapons, regardless if that foul up actually involved the nukes.

Perhaps I've grown too cynical.....but with THIS bunch?

Someone said "alcohol" was involved.

That's the storyline.

From the same people that said an anti-Islamic YouTube video was what started Libya 9/11.

There are very strict guidelines for both enlisted and officers when it comes to nukes and almost zero leeway whatsoever.  It's been this way since we developed our nuclear arsenal.  Pretty much if you f-up, you're toast.  Also, some of our treaties with the Soviets/Russians require that both sides maintain certain safety precautions not only when it comes to the physical weapons, but the personnel who have access to them.

Wouldn't be surprised. The nuke guys tend to party hard even in the ranks, and the officers are far worse.

No way they could have been.  To fire a ICBM is actually a very complex process and to override all of the safety systems is next to impossible, especially given the fact that as soon as you started, it would set off every damn alarm in DOD and security forces would drop on you like a, well a nuke.

I know.  I was just trying to add a little levity to the thread.  Sorry it failed.

Correct term, when it comes to nukes, is a fizzle.

When it comes to nukes, I tend to be overly serious.  It's one of my favorite topics.
