Alex Rodriguez files lawsuit against MLB in New York Supreme Court
By Teri Thompson , Bill Madden , Nathaniel Vinton , Christian Red AND Michael O'keeffe / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

In an attempt to save face — and his fortune — troubled Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court late Thursday night, charging Major League Baseball and commissioner Bug Selig with “tortious interference with A-Rod's existing and future contracts."

The suit alleges that in its investigation of Anthony Bosch’s Biogenesis anti-aging clinic --  the South Florida facility that allegedly supplied pro baseball players with banned substances -- “defendants have engaged in vigilante justice.”

“They have ignored the procedures set forth in baseball’s collectively-bargained labor agreement; violated the strict confidentiality imposed by these agreements; paid individuals millions of dollars and made promises of future employment to individuals in order to get them to produce documents and to testify on MLB’s behalf; bullied and intimidated those individuals who refused to cooperate with their witch hunt; and singled out plaintiff for an unprecedented 211-game suspension -- the longest non-permanent ban in baseball history.”

Rodriguez also claimed that MLB paid $150,000 in cash for Biogenesis records, claiming they had been stolen and "we're handed off in a bag at a Fort Lauderdale restaurant." MLB has adamantly denied having had anything to do with stealing the records.

He's begging for the maximum suspension possible, one that will end his career.

Is that because you think there's no way he won't get the remainder due on the existing contract?  Cause I believe the Yankees are going to have to pay him.

They're not going to pay him while he's suspended, and he will lose with an arbitrator.   He's finished in baseball.

But, throughout the appeal process, eventually the Yankkees will have to honor the Contract.  Deduct the current suspension if you want, but isn't he still owed about $110 Miliion?

Ah, but that's the rub. All player contracts are only valid under the constructs of a collective bargaining agreement, which Rodriguez violated, thus potentially voiding the contract. By dragging this into a court of law, Rodriguez is taking a huge risk.
