Grayson jeered for fundraising as gov’t shut down
« on: October 02, 2013, 11:37:37 AM »

Florida Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson discovered that asking for political donations on the eve of a government shutdown is not a good fundraising tactic.

The congressman reached out to his Twitter followers, soliciting them to contribute to his political campaign before the Federal Elections Commission closed due to the shutdown, the Florida Watchdog first reported.

We fight and we win. Contribute $25 by tonight’s FEC deadline & together, we’ll keep winning.

The tweet featured an ad in which he called himself “a peace champion.”

Grayson included a link in the tweet that directed donors to a website that asked them to contribute as much as $2,500 or more. There was also an option that would sign them up to send the Democratic congressman money on a monthly basis.

The twitterverse did not respond kindly to Grayson’s request. Many thought that the congressman’s fundraising efforts showed that he thought of his own political ambitions before putting the nation’s fiscal house back in order..”

@AlanGrayson maybe not the best time to fundraise bro–you still get paid during shutdown right –or did yoiu forego that ? #doubtit

@AlanGrayson Sorry, Al. I will be too broke trying to pay for my health insurance thanks to your FORCING Obamacare upon the American people.

@AlanGrayson WTF!? We have to pay to get our voices heard? I thought our tax dollars did that! Quit begging for money. I’m on SS!!

Grayson is perhaps best known for saying that the Republicans’ solution to health care reform was death.

“That’s right, the Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick,” he said on the House floor.
