Obama to stump against shutdown Thursday

President Barack Obama will be holding a shutdown press event Thursday at a local construction company, press secretary Jay Carney said Tuesday.

Obama’s event will be at the M. Luis Construction Company, which on its website describes itself as a “Maryland-based, woman and minority-owned road construction company.”

Obama’s trip to visit the company will be his first outside the White House to focus attention on the government shutdown, which he blamed on Republicans during Rose Garden remarks Tuesday.

“The president will urge Congress to do its job,” Carney said. “That visit will be an opportunity for the president to speak about the issues.”
