(CNSNews.com) - Repeating his new talking point about the Affordable care act, President Obama mentioned his own daughters on Thursday as he made the point that the new health care law offers free preventive care, including contraception.
"Let's say -- let's say you're a young woman -- I'm interested in this because I've got two daughters, right? Let's say you just turned 26. Let's say you can't stay on your parents' plan anymore. If you buy health care through the marketplace, your plan has to cover free checkups, flu shots, contraceptive care -- so you might end up getting more health care each month than you're paying for the premiums," Obama said.
As CNSNews.com reported, the president said something similar on Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York:
"And because all the insurers who participate are required to, for example, provide free preventive care, free contraceptive care, that young woman, she may make up what she’s spending on premiums just on her monthly use of health care,” said Obama.
On Thursday in Maryland, Obama said, "Knowing you can offer your family the security of health care -- that's priceless. Now you can do it for the cost of your cable bill -- probabaly less than your cell phone bill. Think about that -- good health insurance for hte price of your cell phone bill -- or less." The remark drew applause.
Obama's sales pitch comes as a new Bloomberg Poll finds that 68 percent of Americans believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction -- and 54 percent disapproved of the way the president is handling health care (39 percent approved).
