Senator Ted Cruz stands up to the liberal Left with real conservative leadership

By Nile Gardiner World Last updated: September 25th, 2013

Ted Cruz may not be a household name in the UK, but he is a rising star in the American conservative movement, and a key figure to watch for the 2016 presidential race. The Princeton and Harvard-educated Senator from Texas is making waves in Washington, with his marathon speech on the floor of the Senate against Obamacare. As of time of writing, Cruz has been speaking for a staggering 19 hours, urging Congress to defund President Obama’s hugely unpopular health care reforms, which Cruz accurately describes as a job killer. Obamacare (officially known as the Affordable Care Act) is frankly an albatross around the necks of the American people, one that comes at a $1.85 trillion cost to US taxpayers according to the Congressional Budget Office.

I met Senator Cruz last week, and have heard him speak on a number of occasions. He is a conviction politician who takes a clear stand for conservative values, and isn’t afraid to take on the Establishment of his own party. He is increasingly popular with grassroots Republicans, who see him as a figure who is unwilling to cut deals in Congress that undermine ordinary Americans. The Left fear figures like Cruz, who are willing to fight tooth and nail against their damaging big government agenda, and are increasingly capturing the hearts and minds of US voters.

Ted Cruz’s historic speech is being watched by millions across the United States. His stand will be applauded by all who believe in holding government to account, and defending the Founding principles of individual liberty in the land of the free.
