Strong Pakistani Earthquake Creates New Island Off Country's Coast (Hoax?)

They claim it isn't a hoax but it seems odd that much land would rise up from the ocean that quickly with just a 7.8 earthquake.

As reported earlier, Pakistan and India were both shaken by a strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake with numerous aftershocks. While the damage and the casualties from the quake are not fully known yet although according to Raza news agency the latest death toll is at 45, one quite stunning development has emerged, quite literally, out of the sea. As Pakistani's The News reports, an entire island emerged off the country's Gwadar coast in the aftermath of the quake. "According to DIG Gwadar Moazzam Jah, the island's altitude is 20 to 40 feet and width around 100 feet. Talking to Geo news, the DIG said that the island emerged at a distance of 350 feet in the sea from the Gwadar coast." We hope this is not some very elaborate mass media hoax.

Sounds like it's legit - at least the photos don't seem to be fake - but it's apparently a "temporary formation resulting from a "mud volcano," a jet of mud, sand and water that gushed to the surface as the temblor churned and pressurized that slurry under the ocean floor."  http://www.nbcnews.com/science/pakistan-earthquake-creates-new-island-mud-volcano-blame-4B11248003

Apparently structures like this have appeared before and have disappeared relatively quickly.  The story at the link says that a similar island appeared in 1968 after an earthquake, but it disappeared after a year.
