Attkisson: Kerry Won’t Make Benghazi Survivors Available for Congressional Testimony

Posted By Bryan Preston On September 10, 2013 @ 12:41 pm In Politics

The administration what wants America to trust it on Syria is continuing its cover-up of Benghazi. CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson posted this on Facebook this afternoon.

    Secretary of State John Kerry has told House Oversight Committee he will not comply with Republican requests to make Benghazi survivors available for interviews by Congress. Chairman Issa R-CA says if Kerry doesn’t change his mind, there could be subpoenas.

There is only one reason to prevent Americans from testifying: they have something to say that Kerry and Obama don’t want them to say.

Fire off the subpoenas. Tomorrow is the first anniversary of the night that President Barack Obama went missing while Americans died, and the 12th is the first anniversary of Obama, Clinton et al blaming that assault on a movie.

Answers, please.

If John Boehner had a spine he would name a select committee and these people would be compelled to testify.

Select committees are a perfect out for both Congress and Obama.  The issue gets buried for the next three years and nobody talks to the press.

No select committees.  Just let Issa do his job.

Once again in your zeal to prop up Boehner you ignore the powers a select committee has over ISSA...... a select committee is what brought down Richard Nixon after more than a year of investigations went no where... reason being a select committee has all the powers of a special prosecutor where the ISSA committee(s) do not - and unlike the special prosecutor they do not report to the President on their investigation.

In your zeal to trash Boehner, you assume that he's the only one holding up the appointment of a select committee.  Since a select committee involves committee chairmen, one has to think they're not wild for the idea either.

Then you would be wrong.  As a matter of fact 2/3 or the GOP Caucus signed a letter two months ago pushing Boehner to name a select committee.

Wolf: Questions about Benghazi need to be addressed, answered

On the eve of the first anniversary of the terrorist attack that killed four Americans in Libya, a Virginia congressman is pushing for the appointment of a special committee to investigate it.
Wolf

Over the past year, Congressman Frank Wolf (R-Virginia) has led congressional efforts to create a bipartisan House select committee to fully investigate the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate annex in Benghazi. He believes a select committee is the only way the American people will ever learn the truth about what happened. Wolf has introduced House Resolution 36, which has more than 160 co-sponsors.

During a teleconference sponsored by Tea Party Unity last week, the congressman stressed that clearly there were options available for American support response to provide assistance to the consulate personnel.

"Could they have taken a plane out of Italy? Could they have taken a plane out of Iceland? Could we have had allies come – and also the Homeland Security?" he asks. (See Wolf’s full list of questions)

http://freedomoutpost.com/2013/04/why-is-a-resolution-to-investigate-benghazi-languishing-in-committee-for-3-months/

April 11, 2013 by Tim Brown

Why Is A Resolution To Investigate Benghazi Languishing In Committee For 3 Months?

 Earlier this week I wrote letting you know that over 700 retired Special Forces signed an open letter to the United States House of Representatives demanding that there be a select committee be formed by Congress to investigate the attack that took place on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya.

Well, here's something. Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA) put forth a House Resolution to that effect back on January 18, 2013 and do you know where it's gotten since that time? It's languishing in committee. Rep. Wolf introduced H. Res 36, establishing a select committee to investigate and report on the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and on the same day it was referred to committee. Nothing has been done with it. For nearly three months this resolution has sat silent.

At the time the following names were listed on those submitting the resolution: Mr. WOLF (for himself, Mr. BARLETTA, Mr. ADERHOLT, Mr. FRANKS of Arizona, Mr. WEBER of Texas, Mr. POSEY, Mr. WITTMAN, Mr. GRIFFIN of Arkansas, Mr. SCHOCK, Mr. MEEHAN, Mr. KING of Iowa, Mr. DUNCAN of South Carolina, Mr. OLSON, Mr. JOHNSON of Ohio, Mr. WILSON of South Carolina, Mr. BROOKS of Alabama, Mr. GERLACH, Mr. BRADY of Texas, Mr. MCKINLEY, Mr. JORDAN, and Mr. FLORES).

According to the resolution, the committee would consist of 19 members as follows:

(1) The chair and ranking member of the Committee on Armed Services (or a designee from among the members of that committee).

 (2) The chair and ranking member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (or a designee from among the members of that committee).

(3) The chair and ranking member of the Committee on Homeland Security (or a designee from among the members of that committee).

 (4) The chair and ranking member of the Committee on Intelligence (or a designee from among the members of that committee).

(5) The chair and ranking member of the Committee on the Judiciary (or a designee from among the members of that committee).

(6) The chair and ranking member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (or a designee from among the members of that committee).

 (7) Five members appointed by the Speaker.

(8) Two members appointed by the Speaker after consultation with the minority leader. This committee would be given 90 days from their initial meeting to conduct an investigation and issue a report to the House.

That report would contain:

(1) any intelligence known to the United States relating to the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012;

(2) any requests for additional security, or actions taken by Federal agencies to improve security at the consulate before the attack;

(3) a definitive timeline of the attack;

(4) how the relevant agencies and the executive branch responded to the attack and whether appropriate congressional notifications were made;

 (5) any improper conduct by officials relating to the attack;

(6) recommendations on what steps Congress and the President should take to prevent future attack; and

(7) any other relevant issues relating to the attack or the response to the attack.

Republicans control the House. Why are they not moving on this? Why is it languishing in committee?

Congressman Wolf's office spoke with Freedom Outpost today and confirmed that they have 89 co-sponsors, all Republicans, noting that they had 70 on Monday and that they are hopeful to obtain over 100 by the weekend.

Quote
Keith Sessions (R-TX) heads the committee the resolution is in. His office has not yet responded to inquiries about why the resolution continues to sit in committee.

Contact your representative here and ask them if they have added their names to this list and if they haven't ask why not. This resolution needs to be brought to the House floor and voted on and this committee established. The truth of what happened and why in Benghazi needs to be exposed.

UPDATE: At least 106  167 lawmakers have now signed onto the resolution thanks to you letting your voice be heard in the House of Representatives.

Secretary of State John Kerry has informed Congress he “will not honor the request to make Benghazi survivors available for questioning,” CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson reports.

Republicans in the House Oversight Committee reportedly plan to issue subpoenas if Kerry does not reverse his decision and provide congressional investigators access to Benghazi survivors.

CBS Reporter: Kerry Tells Congress He Wont Make Benghazi Survivors Available for Questioning
WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 10: U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry prepares to testify before the House Armed Services Committee on Capitol Hill September 10, 2013 in Washington, DC. Congress may have avoided a difficult vote this week after Kerry suggested that the United States would possibly halt plans for a military strike against Syria if that country turned over its chemical weapons to the international community. House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Monday sent Kerry a formal letter demanding access to the survivors of the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“I must receive confirmation that the [State] Department will makes these witnesses available to Committee investigators by September 24, 2013,” the letter reads.

“Otherwise, I will have no alternative but to consider the use of compulsory process,” the letter adds.

The congressman points out that this is not the first time that the Committee has demanded access to the Benghazi survivors. In fact, he notes, the State Department has dutifully ignored or denied earlier requests for access.

The State Department told the Committee on Aug. 23, 2013, that it was not “prepared to support the [Committee’s] request for transcribed interviews.”

This would appear odd, the letter notes, considering certain Benghazi survivors have been available for various media appearances.

A recent “Vanity Fair” article, for instance, described the night of the attack and included details that only “persons who survived the attack could possibly know.”

Additionally, Rep. Issa explains, Fox News reported in July that it had made contact with David Ubben, one of the survivors

Well, he can't make them available because he's imprisoned or killed all of them; the people you see doing media interviews are just actors playing the part.

With any other president that statement would have come with a large roll of tinfoil; not with this president.
