Western naval sources reported Friday that a Chinese landing craft, the Jinggangshan, with a 1,000-strong marine battalion had reached the Red Sea en route for the Mediterranean off Syria.  According to DEBKAfile, Beijing has already deployed a number of warships opposite Syria in secret. If the latest report is confirmed, this will be the largest Chinese deployment in the Middle East in its naval history.

I'm confused.  Is this article saying there are a thousand men packed inside that vessel?  And ready to do what exactly.  Thanks for an answer in advance.

It's from DEBKAfile, so it's safe to assume it is BS.

Have the Chinese sent many ships to the Mediterranean?

They do from time to time, usually a couple of frigates or destroyers, just to show off.

Are they showing off right now?

Pretty much.  A ship like that, if that is what they have sent to the Med, is for show.  It wouldn't last 2 seconds in a battle.

Do they have any of the "real stuff" in the Mediterranean?

Off the top of my head, I don't know.  I haven't seen anything about them deploying any DDGs, the only surface ships of consequence they have.

But really, would we want to touch any Chinese ship...even a junk...if they flood the market with our debt, well?
