A senior Syrian military official says if the U.S. or a coalition of nations attacks Syrian government forces, Syria and its allies will launch an immediate attack on Israel.

“If Damascus comes under attack, Tel Aviv will be targeted too and a full-scale war against Syria will actually issue a license for attacking Israel,” said the Syrian army official who spoke to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency on condition of anonymity.

“We are rest assured that if Syria is attacked, Israel will also be set on fire and such an attack will, in turn, engage Syria’s neighbors,” he said in the Tuesday interview.
------
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would respond forcefully to any retaliatory attacks against his country. After convening his security advisers on Tuesday to discuss the escalating crisis, Netanyahu vowed, “The state of Israel is ready for any scenario. We are not part of the civil war in Syria but if we identify any attempt whatsoever to harm us, we will respond and we will respond in strength.”
------
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told the BBC Tuesday that U.S. forces are ready to act should President Barack Obama give the order to strike Syrian government assets.

The unnamed Syrian military official’s threats come on the heels of a similar threat from a senior Iranian parliamentary official who also said Israel would be targeted in the event of an American strike.

Now that is a threat that is unlikely to mean much to Obama, fan of Israel that he is.

That's for sure!  He can hardly hold him contempt for the country of Israel but they can take care of themselves without his interference.

Tel Aviv might not be the only thing 'on fire'.

Biological/chemical attack on a U.S. city?

By whom, and how?

Exact city, exact time, exact # of casualties?

No.  Actor, and likely means of acting.

What difference does it make?

Because different actors have different capabilities, some of whom cannot reach the US.

If you insist on speculating about who might commit such an act, it would seem obvious that you could eliminate those you think 'cannot reach the U.S.'?

Gourmet Dan raises a legitimate concern: Biological/chemical attack on a U.S. city?

Just remember, we have little control of our southern border, have no idea of who has snuck across it or to what purpose, nor what they may have brought with them. Deadly biological agents can be easily transported in a back pack or picked up after being brought in with some diplomatic pouch.

Is there some reason you feel the need to be so evasive?  Your answers won't be held against you - at least not here.  If you had put any thought into your comment, you could come up with some likely suspects.  Simply throwing something out and hoping it'll stick to the wall isn't particularly constructive.

Furthermore, with regard to the possibility of a chemical attack on our mainland....

Obama's Immigration Department during his 1st term had dramatically raised the quota numbers on Middle Easterners/Asians...with liberal guidelines regarding asylum.

For the Democratic leadership to be so comfy and cozy with the Muslim Brotherhood...and given that he's actually going to be Al Qaeda's air force in toppling Assad...excuse me for being a bit afraid.

Why?   Because facts are facts.....we have a POTUS that hates half of all Americans (while he only shows disdain for the rest)

Iran could easily strike the SE USA from Venezuela and they are very good friends - given Venezuela is melting down under their now Socialist regime (no food, brown-outs and more) they would gladly help out Iran if they thought it would strengthen their own position at home.

Is there some reason you feel the need to insist on answers to irrelevant questions?  It wouldn't matter who did it or how and there are plenty of candidates with motive and opportunity.

Gotta agree with you here, Gourmet Dan: Simply insisting on answers to irrelevant questions isn't particularly constructive.

I still don't understand what he was asking of you. That you identify by name anyone who represents a terrorist threat within the United States or might in the future?

you could come up with some likely suspects.

The first time a chemical weapon hits Israel, Syria will be turned into glass.  Assad is all too aware of this fact.

WWI and WWII started on softer notes.

WWI started cause nations started to have a p*****g match and treaties.
WWII started cause America was weak and the world didn't have the nerve to stand up to Germany and Japan..
WWIII was avoided (so far and I hope it is avoided) due a strong American and nuclear weapons..

There was a lot of tensions in Europe at the time, but it was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand   and his wife Sophie that provided the match of WWI.  The lesson here is in a complicated chess game of international relations, it only takes one event to set all the other events into motion...... I fear Obama is setting events into motion which is going to cost us all dearly in blood and treasure. Russia is not going to sit quietly by and certainly Iran and North Korea won't.

I stand corrected about WWI. But you are right, this is why elections matter.. I'm sure Reagan wanted to bomb Syria, but he didn't due to the fact that Syria was an ally of the Soviet Union.. Leadership matters. Besides I don't think we should be helping the MB..

I keep thinking the words used during the WMD search in Iraq when none turned up.

"We went with the best information available at the time!"  (re: source of recent gas attack)

That's going to haunt us...for it's the excuse the Obama administration will use regarding Syria.

What I find interesting about WWI is how Bosnia and Serbia were involved .. the more things change in the world......... the more they remain the same.  But, yes there was a lot of alliances.. Russia had an alliance with Serbia (for instance), but when Serbia moved to take over Bosnia and Austria/Hungary declared war on Serbia it was the match that made Russia  jump in to defend Serbia followed quickly by all the other moving parts on the chess board (UK, France, Germany Japan, USA).....

It's like HELLO has anyone in DC in this administration studied World History?  Russia has such an alliance now with Syria and Iran........

Get your undies out of that twist boy.  What started out as a friendly question ripe for some interesting speculation seems to have turned into a pissing match with you.  I would have been interested in hearing any speculations you might have had, but at this point I don't see any reason to continue getting pissed on.
