Rove: No-Fly Zone Could Have US Stuck in Syria, Like US in Iraq

As President Barack Obama considers military options in Syria, Republican strategist Karl Rove warns against a no-fly zone.
"If you make a commitment to a no-fly zone, then you're going to be stuck like we were in Iraq for the better part of a decade enforcing [it]," Rove said Monday on Fox News Channel's "O'Reilly Factor."
"I'd rather seriously degrade their air assets and their ability to put planes in the air and keep them in the air."
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told CNN he doesn't think Obama needs to get congressional approval to take action against Syria for using chemical weapons on civilians, but Rove disagreed.
Host Bill O'Reilly said Obama should have no trouble getting Democrats and Republicans to approve action after seeing video of gassed children, some of them dead, after an attack last week that Doctors Without Borders said may have killed 355 and injured 3,600.
But Rove noted that there are some isolationists on both sides of the aisle, possible a quarter to a third of Congress, who would vote no.
Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday called last week's attack a "moral obscenity."
In the end, Rove would like to see the United States have a plan to arm the elements in the Syrian opposition who are not connected to al-Qaida.
"This is what we should have been doing two years ago," Rove said. "We didn't do it, and al-Qaida elements took the lead in the fight against [President Basher] Assad."
