MUMBAI: A fire broke out on INS Sindhurakshak after an explosion in the Navy submarine docked inside the restricted Lion Gate area at the Mumbai naval dockyard.

Fire brigade officials told TOI that the explosion took place at 12.10am on Wednesday.

The officials said many sailors jumped off the vessel after the explosion.

Some of the injured were taken to INHS Asvini.

Sixteen fire engines and nine water tankers were put into action.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained, fire brigade officials said.

Three years ago, a fire was reported in the same vessel; one person was killed then.
