Yet another entry into the cottage industry which is our 35th President, his wife, and his innumerable affairs, especially the one with the hapless and sad Marilyn Monroe.

Quote
Marilyn Monroe called Jackie Kennedy at the White House and confessed she was having an affair with her husband, to which the First Lady responded 'that's great... I'll move out and you'll have all the problems,' according to an explosive new book.

In 'These Few Precious Days: The Final Year of Jack with Jackie,' author Christopher Andersen claims Jackie 'knew everything' about Jack's cheating and turned a blind eye, but his relationship with Marilyn 'seemed to bother her the most.'

Poor Marilyn. She really believed the guy:
Quote
Marilyn's sights were firmly set on becoming the President's second wife.

The book, which is reportedly based on revelations from those who knew the truth(e.g., Peter Lawford), contains some other interesting tidbits:
Quote
Jackie reportedly feared her own sexual inadequacies were pushing Jack into the arms of other women.
even though he doesn't sound like much of a lover.
Quote
she [Jackie] complained of the President's love-making to her long-time confidant Dr. Frank Finnerty, claiming 'he just goes too fast and falls asleep.'

How like a woman to internalize the problem when it was really his. He had no regard for women but simply used them for his own pleasure.

JFK's satyrical impulses aside what concerns me far more is his and Jackie's drug use.

Quote
Aside from the ladies, Andersen offers a fascinating insight into JFK's dependence on drugs.

His physician Max Jacobson, known as Dr Feelgood, administered high-dosage amphetamine shots laced with steroids to the president on a regular basis, the book claims, and even the first lady.

Dr. Max's four-times-weekly injections worried other physicians who believed they might react with the dozen or so other drugs Jack was taking for his other health woes.

Comforting to know this druggie had his finger on the button and it was his drug addled mind which had to deal with a hard core and sober  Khrushchev at the time of the so-called Cuban Missile Crisis.

For those too young to remember, Kennedy received the same kind of fawning and protective press the current occupant of the WH gets which helps explain how he got away with all this, particularly the infidelities, just as Obama doesn't have to answer for, explain, or comment on his "phony" scandals.

Was it Millard Fillmore they claimed was a dandy?
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

Sounds like a lot of the book is a rehash of stuff we already knew.  Marilyn actually believed JFK was going to divorce Jackie and she (Marilyn) was going to move into the White House and she did call Jackie... IIRC it was why Jackie went off to the yacht trip with Onassis, whom she had met through her sister Lee.

Yeah, the drug use is not a revelation, either. That mini-series last year starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes as JFK and Jackie addressed it.

Yep it did.  At one point she was so dependent w on amphetamines thatcHED put a stop to her injections.. not his own, but hers.
