Just one little comment here:  a gas engine is a power plant, an electric motor is not.  An engine takes potential energy, like the energy stored in the molecules that make up gasoline, and converts it into kinetic energy.  A motor takes energy and uses it to do a specific sort of work, such as the electric motor in a hybrid that uses energy transmitted to it with electricity to turn the wheels that make the car move.

In other words, an engine produces the power needed to do work but doesn't do any particular work itself.  A motor takes the power produced somewhere else and uses that power to do specific types of work.
