Here's the outlook right now from Ahmed Hawary, a spokesman for the June 30 front, the opposition coalition backing the protests. He claims that Morsi is under house arrest and that the Army has made its decision. "Everything seems to be going fine," he says. "Everyone is going to follow the road map."

Hawary says there is talk of a transitional government made of multiple leaders. And he had a dark prognosis for Morsi: "Everybody is calling for Morsi to be tried and imprisoned for his crimes."

Official announcement of what's next, he says, could be in minutes but possibly a couple more hours, saying the Army might lock down security first. — Mike Giglio

A Cairo woman on Instagram tweets this photo that reportedly depicts the army rolling into Tahrir Square. Another, in Opera Square, shares a similar photo on TwitPic. The New York Times' Kareem Fahim shares a photo he says depicts "Islamists fighting with officers" on their tanks, and that the soldiers were ordered down from their vehicles.

Morsi aide Essam el-Haddad writes on Facebook, "For the sake of Egypt and for historical accuracy, let’s call what is happening by its real name: Military coup."

Al Arabiya: Morsi moved to center attached to Defense Ministry. Unclear if there for own safety or under arrest #Egypt #EgyptABC

From ABC's Luis Martinez (@LMartinezABC) at the Pentagon:

Pentagon Press Secretary George Little has confirmed that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel called Gen. Sisi yesterday.  Little says Hagel initiated the call but he would not get into the specifics of the call.   He also confirmed that Hagel had called Sisi late last week, again he provided no details.

Was cutting off U.S. military aid a part of the discussion?  Little would only speak in general times saying “I think we’re still in a period where speculating isn’t prudent. We need to walk very carefully through this situation.  This is a crisis that involves the Egyptian people and the focus should be on them and their focal process and what decisions they make in the coming hours and days.”

Little spoke in general terms that “U.S. officials at various levels of our government, have been very clear about our position that the U.S. remains committed to a democratic process in Egypt and does not support any single party or group.  We’re obviously monitoring events in Egypt closely and we hope that violence is abated. We note this is a tense period and we’d hope that this situation can be resolved through a political process. ”

For the last several days Little has not acknowledged that any phone calls had been made by Hagel beyond saying he did not have any readouts of a phone call to provide.  Gen. Dempsey spoke with his counterpart Lt. Gen. Sobhi on Monday morning, about an hour before the Egyptian military announced its 48 hour ultimatum.  No readout has been provided of that phone call either.

He also said that there have been no requests for U.S. military assistance from the State Department to secure the embassy in Cairo.   A force of almost about 150 Marines, currently stationed at Sigonella, Italy, has been on standby should they be needed to help with protecting U.S. personnel in Egypt.  However, they can only be allowed into Egypt with the permission of the
Egyptian government.

Isn't this how we end up with another Saddam Hussein or Muammar Gaddafi?
