Stay cool, Rapunzel (& perhaps some others)
« on: June 28, 2013, 06:14:49 pm »
According to weather reports temperatures in the Lake Havasu area are slated to reach 126o today. That be mighty hot so I hope Rapunzel and any others living in the American SW will stay cool...and hydrated.

Btw, Death Valley may reach the 130s. I advise no hiking in that area.

We reached 127 on June 27, 1993..... I remember because we were moving into our house during that time and it was too hot to even touch the trailer with all our boxes ~LOL~.....  The only good thing about this is it gets really hot before Monsoon sets in......... it actually helps get it going and July 1 is the average start date for Monsoon Season here.... which has been sorely lacking the last ten years with the drought.

Don't laugh... but yes, it is... until Monsoon sets in and then we are as miserable here as you guys in the summer.  I've been in DC in August and know from where I speak ~LOL~

My family lived in the San Fernando Valley in the early-mid 60s, and I remember those 115 degree days. It really was more tolerable than the awful humidity of St. Louis, for example. When the temperature and the humidity are nearly the same number, and both are well over 80, you're in trouble!

Keep cool, Rap!

This time of year I would go to the North Rim, not the South Rim.. it would be about 20 degrees cooler.. I'd also go to Lake Powell and take the tour boat to Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

Sounds like a plan...we're heading southwest from Denver, after stopping in Telluride.

Lake Powell...Rainbow Bridge...I'll get the Missuz to add it to our AAA TripTik... :pondering:

Muchas Gracias...MUD :seeya:

Tell her to call and make reservations for the boat, trust me it will be a highlight of your vacation.

Mud - you HAVE to do the helicopter ride. Papillon - hundred bucks a piece for a full ride and an insane pilot.

10 - 9 p.m. and it is still 109 outside  ~LOL~  .. I have my ceiling fans turns up on high and it has really saved on the air conditioning going on too frequently.  Dew Points are rising, which means monsoon is a coming -- I LOVE monsoon season!  Reminds me of the big storms we had in the summers on my Grandparents Texas Farm.  Sadly there is a huge mulch fire burning in Phoenix, I feel for all the firemen having to work it in this heat.

~LOL~ that is why we used to have to put sweat shirts on when we stopped at McDonalds on the Cajon Pass on the way home from the lake in the summer..  the drop in temps is dramatic...   lots of tradeoffs, I miss the beautiful flowers I grew when we lived near the beach, but I don't miss June gloom.

111 in Vegas today.  The pizza oven ("it's a dry heat") is supposed to hit 117 tomorrow...

Heat wave here, too. At least 5 straight days of 100+ temps, Tuesday projected at 108o. Not in Rapunzel's or Scottftlc's league (Vegas?) but warm enough I reckon.

Vegas is cool compared to Havasu.  About ten years ago they moved our temp gauge up the mountain to get s cooler readout.. didn't like being listed as hottest do it in nation.  There is a reason we never went out on the lake in July... unless it was a rainy monsoon day... toooooohot even for us.  And Lake Powell in August was a welcome respite.. 20 degrees cooler..my Utah and Colorado friends tease me... They think it is too hot there in August, I think it is just right.  100 is heaven.

Heat wave: 200 suffer heat problems at Vegas event

Authorities say 200 people were treated for heat problems as temperatures soared at an outdoor concert in Las Vegas.

Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa says about 30 of them were hospitalized for heat-related injuries Friday afternoon at Van Warped Tour at Silverton Casino.

He says most of the others "were essentially provided shade and water and a place to sit down."

There were no reports of any life-threatening injuries.

As the numbers of people with problems grew, medical workers at the scene called for help from surrounding agencies.

The National Weather Service reported temps of 115 Friday, part of a heat wave affecting several Western states.

Heh heh heh...yeah, didn't he impregnate a young Mexican-American on a one-night stand, then end up marrying her?

Can't recall the actress's name, but she's beautiful, I know that...

I didn't hear what it got to in Needles this weekend, must have awful!  Vegas has a bit of altitude which moderates (Hah, what a word to use in this case!) our temps just a bit.  We're at least 1000-1200 feet higher than Havasu (where my house is in Vegas it is about 2300 feet above sea level, surprisingly higher than The Strip as our valley is like tilted table top, northwest highest dropping as you go southeast).  We hit 117 at my house both days, 118 on The Strip and downtown.  Just ridiculous.  Supposed to drop to 114 today I think.  Let my dogs out at 4 AM this morning and the heat just hit me when I opened the door, only dropped to the low 90s last night.  Havasu and Needles must be insane...as is Death Valley.
