New Developments in House Oversight Investigations of IRS, Benghazi

Rep. Darrell Issa confirmed on On the Record Tuesday evening that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will decide on Friday whether Lois Lerner’s Fifth Amendment plea is valid.

“You don’t get to pick and choose” what you say and then refuse to answer questions, the Oversight Committee chairman argued. He expects that the committee will work to get Lerner’s “full testimony” in the coming weeks.

Issa also provided details on the questionable IRS contracts that surfaced recently. The granting of these types of contracts to companies like Strong Castle Inc. ”looks wrong” and will be investigated by Congress, he explained.

The Republican representative from California described the IRS as “an agency in crisis.”

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, also serving on the Oversight Committee, then provided updates on the Benghazi investigation. Subpoenas have been issued to four officials in the State Department after months of the giving Congress the “stiff arm,” he said.

The Republican congressman from Utah asserted that it would be a “lie” to say that the State Department has been working with Congress to uncover what really happened during the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya. In fact, the State Department has “proven” that it does not intend to cooperate, and Secretary Kerry has not encouraged those with knowledge of the tragic events of September 11, 2012 to testify before Congress.

Sheesh, if it wasn't for Fox News, you'd never hear about any of these stories.

I don't even know what the problem is nor how this woman can be allowed to claim the 5th.

First of all she is a government employee so how she can refuse to testify on her official duties and actions is beyond me.

Secondly, here is the entire 5th Amendment with the relevant portion bolded:

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation - See more at: http://constitution.findlaw.com/amendment5/amendment.html#sthash.Sdc7oFxk.dpuf

What criminal case? So far none, so how can she claim the right not to self-incriminate? Self-incriminate against what? Is Lois tacitly admitting criminal activity on her part and on the part of the IRS? No criminal allegations have yet been made officially so what is she claiming the 5th on?
