Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show Thursday that Pope Francis should be telling illegal immigrants to return home since he has criticized its capitalist system.

But he won't, Limbaugh said, because he wants people from socialist countries to stay here and convert the country.

While discussing the Pope's comments about Donald Trump's Christianity, Limbaugh noted that the Vatican is surrounded by a wall just like Francis opposes on the U.S.-Mexican border.

"If socialism is so damn hot, why doesn't the Pope ask all Mexicans to return home?" Limbaugh said. "If capitalism is such a bad thing, why doesn't the Pope say to every Cuban living in America, 'Get the hell back to Cuba?'"

The answer is simple, Limbaugh said: "Because they are going to convert this place, folks. That's what this is all about."

Limbaugh has in the past criticized Francis' statements about capitalism, even calling the Pontiff a Marxist, and said Thursday the Pope ought to follow his own advice and tell people to abandon a country that embraces it.

Instead, he said, "The Pope is encouraging them to come here. He's encouraging us to let them come here. He's encouraging us to stop any efforts whatsoever to prevent them from coming here. Why, if capitalism's so bad? 'Cause if he gets what he wants and everybody else along with him, we're not gonna be capitalists very much longer."

As for the Pope's comments that many have interpreted as questioning Trump's Christianity when he said that someone who builds walls rather than bridges might not be Christian, Limbaugh said that the Pontiff has not made similar comments about socialist and communist leaders.

"Has he questioned the faith of the Castro brothers?" Limbaugh asked. "Has the Pope questioned the faith of any communist leaders? He spends a lot of time in communist countries.

"Has he ever said that Mao Tse-tung, that Fidel Castro, that Raul Castro, any other communist is not a Christian? Why Donald Trump? 'Cause Trump wants to build a wall? Have you seen the Vatican wall?"

Marxism

: the political, economic, and social theories of Karl Marx including the belief that the struggle between social classes is a major force in history and that there should
eventually be a society in which there are no classes

socialism

: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

It's Sad How Wrong Pope Francis Is (Unless It's a Deliberate Mistranslation By Leftists)," the talk-show host told his estimated 15 million listeners the Pope's views are "sad because this Pope makes it very clear he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to capitalism and socialism and so forth."
Rush: Pope Francis' Words Are 'Pure Marxism'

Talk-show host Rush Limbaugh says he admired Pope Francis just fine — until he made "unbelievable" comments castigating elements of modern capitalism.

Now he calls the pontiff's 50,000-word statement calling for church reforms "pure Marxism," and said he thinks it's "sad how wrong" Pope Francis is, reports CNN.

Limbaugh took to the airwaves last week, the day after Francis released the "Evangelii Gaudium" ("The Joy of the Gospel"), to take aim at the Pope's economic views and to chastise him as being "dramatically, embarrassingly, puzzlingly wrong."

In Limbaugh's segment, "It's Sad How Wrong Pope Francis Is (Unless It's a Deliberate Mistranslation By Leftists)," the talk-show host told his estimated 15 million listeners the Pope's views are "sad because this Pope makes it very clear he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to capitalism and socialism and so forth."

Francis, who had worked on behalf of the poor in his native Argentina, has refused some of the traditional luxuries that normally accompany the papal office, including choosing to stay in a Vatican guest house as opposed to the papal palace. In addition, this summer, Francis refused the use of the new Mercedes "Popemobile" in favor of touring the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa in an open-air, 20-year-old Fiat.

In "Evangelii," Francis warns the "idolatry of money" will lead to a "new tyranny."

He also said trickle-down economics "expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power."

Liberal Catholics hailed the Pope's critique, saying church leaders should spend more time protecting the poor. And, they are demanding an apology from Limbaugh.

"To call the Holy Father a proponent of 'pure Marxism' is both mean-spirited and naive," said Christopher Hale of the Washington-based Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. "Francis' critique of unrestrained capitalism is in line with the Church's social teaching."

Limbaugh pointed out that he is not a Catholic, but said he "profoundly" admires the faith, and he admired Pope Francis, "up until this."

Further, Limbaugh said he has visited the Vatican, "which wouldn't exist without tons of money," several times.

He further claimed that as far as "Evangelii" is concerned, "somebody has either written this for him or gotten to him. This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the Pope."

Limbaugh was also offended by the Pope's criticism of "the culture of prosperity," which he called a "mere spectacle" for the poor of the world.

"This is almost a statement about who should control financial markets," Limbaugh railed.

"He says that the global economy needs government control. I'm not Catholic, but I know enough to know that this would have been unthinkable for a Pope to believe or say just a few years ago."

Limbaugh was not the only conservative commentator to rail about the Pope's views on capitalism.

"I go to church to save my soul," said Fox News' Stuart Varney, who is an Episcopalian. "It's got nothing to do with my vote. Pope Francis has linked the two. He has offered direct criticism of a specific political system. He has characterized negatively that system. I think he wants to influence my politics."

Mary Matalin: Pope Gave Trump 'a Big, Fat, Wet Kiss' With 'Not Christian' Comment

VIDEO

Pope Francis gave Donald Trump a "big, fat, wet kiss" when he called the GOP presidential front-runner "not Christian" because of his views on immigration, Republican political consultant Mary Matalin told Newsmax TV.

"I'm a Catholic — and I know what the Pope was saying," Matalin told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "He should stay out of politics.

"He gave Trump a big, fat, wet kiss, whether he meant to or not," she added. "Every time Trump becomes the victim, whoever's attacking him, is bad on him.

"I know what the Pope was saying. He shouldn't say it. Also, the Vatican has walls.

Special:
"I love the Pope," Matalin told Malzberg. "I'm in Rome all the time, but he just needs to stay out of politics."

Trump Spokeswoman: Pope Impugns Faith of Americans Who Want Secure Border

VIDEO

Pope Francis is really doubting the faith of countless numbers of Americans when he says Donald Trump is not a Christian for wanting to deport illegal immigrants and build a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, Katrina Pierson, the billionaire developer's national spokesperson, tells Newsmax TV.

"A lot of people were surprised the Pope made the comments that he made, particularly in that he hasn't even met with Donald Trump and discussed some of these issues," Pierson said Thursday to J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"So to be questioning his faith right now really was a surprise to a lot of people, particularly with regards to the border wall and immigration. The Pope actually inferred that all these people that support building a border wall to secure their country weren't actually Christian."

The Pontiff made headlines when responding to reporters' questions about Trump and some of his more controversial statements, such as vowing to build a wall between the United States and Mexico if he becomes president.

"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the gospel." Francis said.

But Pierson said the Pope's opinion will not hurt Trump's chances in Saturday's South Carolina primary — and in fact only highlights his core positions.

"Overwhelmingly, Republican primary voters support getting immigration under control, they support stopping illegal immigration and building a border wall. So I really don't think it's going to have any impact," Pierson said.

"What it did do is it highlighted that Donald Trump is the strongest when it comes to illegal immigration, at protecting this country, securing the southern border, and doing what's right for Americans.

"I mean, even the Vatican has a wall built around it, so a lot of people at first were very confused but for others it really solidified his position as the leader when it comes to immigration."

Pierson said she is not sure whether Trump, the Republican presidential frontrunner, will request to an audience with the Pope to talk things out.

"But I do think if you are a religious leader and you're going to question or call into question someone's faith, you probably should have sat with them and asked them questions," she said.

"We have seen that happen with someone like Jerry Falwell, Jr. who knows Mr. Trump well, who supports him in this campaign, and speaks very highly of Mr. Trump's faith. So I don't see that happening any time soon. But again, I think what this has done is solidify Donald Trump as the leader when it comes to immigration and border security."

Earlier in the day, Trump predicted the Pontiff would regret his words "if and when" the Islamic State (ISIS) attempts to attack The Vatican.

We're back to authority again.

On whose authority is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church speaking?  Is he speaking on behalf of just the Catholics in Italy?  Europe?  Mexico?

Where is this authority coming from, and why is it being used as a political tool and attempting to reshape the political destiny of the United States?
