Taylor Wilson: Nuclear scientist
Taylor Wilson

At 14, Taylor Wilson became the youngest person to achieve fusion -- with a reactor born in his garage. Now he wants to save our seaports from nuclear terror.

Why you should listen to him:

Physics wunderkind Taylor Wilson astounded the science world when, at age 14, he became the youngest person in history to produce fusion. The University of Nevada-Reno offered a home for his early experiments when Wilson’s worried parents realized he had every intention of building his reactor in the garage.

Wilson now intends to fight nuclear terror in the nation's ports, with a homemade radiation detector priced an order of magnitude lower than most current devices. In 2012, Wilson's dreams received a boost when he became a recipient of the $100,000 Thiel Prize. Wilson now intends revolutionize the way we produce energy, fight cancer, and combat terrorism using nuclear technology.

"Kenneth asked a nuclear-pharmacist friend to come over to check on Taylor’s safety practices. As far as he could tell, the friend said, the boy was getting it right. "

I just watched a story on him on 30-Rock........ what an amazing kid.  His parents moved to Reno because he was enrolled in a special school for the gifted on the campus of the university in Reno... before that when he was 8 he was trying to build a nuclear reactor in his parents garage... when he got to Reno a professor took him under his wing and allowed him to build in his laboratory.  The professor said he is possibly he most brilliant person he has ever met, he is already working on a form of clean nuclear energy and has his plan all worked out....  I was in awe just watching this segment on him..... WOW........  parents are totally down-to-earth nothing special people yet Taylor and his younger brother are both brilliant,... but Taylor is almost completely self-taught in this regard and is already starting his own company  - at 14.

He created "fusion"?  If that's the case, then he's on a much more select list, and the rest of the list only achieved fusion - as opposed to fission - using thermonuclear gadgets (aka, H-bombs).

The kid is amazing, his parents said they don't know where he came from ~LOL~ he has been like this from the time he could walk and talk...... when he told his professor in Reno he was building a nuclear reactor in his parents garage he suggested perhaps it would be better to do that at the school instead and just gave him a spot to work........   even his professors can't keep up with this kids mind, he said this is the kind of student you pray for and never get.......

True enough, but he created fission, not fusion.
