MOSCOW (AP) — A rush-hour fire in Moscow's subway on Wednesday injured dozens of people, forced the evacuation of thousands of commuters and closed parts of the network, authorities said.The fire started after a power cable caught fire in a tunnel leading to the Okhotny Ryad station adjacent to Red Square, the Emergencies Ministry said in a statement.The ministry said more than 45 people sought medical help and seven were hospitalized. Most of them suffered from smoke inhalation. Thousands were evacuated.

The incident, which happened during the rush hour, resulted in a partial mass transit shutdown as thousands of commuters were evacuated.Authorities shut down the transit line less than an hour after resuming service. The smoke came from the same site affected by this morning’s fire.A new evacuation order was issued, emergency services said. Unlike the morning incident, all trains on the line were stopped at a station this time, making the evacuation simpler.At least 52 were hurt in the incident on Wednesday morning at the Okhotny Ryad station, reported Viktor Biryukov, a spokesperson for the capital’s emergencies service. Eleven of them were taken to hospital, he said.The two injured most seriously are in stable condition after suffering from smoke inhalation, according to medical sources. Three patients were released shortly after triage.
