And that, boys and girls, is one of the reasons why we no longer call it "global warming" but instead use "climate change".

Yes, Cincinnatus - everyone knows that global warming causes more snow and colder weather too.   :thud:

It should do. The weather system is a planet wide whole, not isolated local events. More heat in one area will lead to another area being colder - the average global temperature stays roughly the same, but the weather patterns change and become more extreme. It has happened before and will no doubt happen again.

Calling it Global Warming was one of the worst assaults on accuracy ever made and is rightly treated with derision. Climate Change is correct terminology.

So true.  I watch a program here on Discovery called Greatest Catch - it is the crab fishermen in the Bering Sea....... last year the ice was so bad and so low that they had one of the most dangerous fishing seasons in memory as ice kept moving in on their pots before they could retrieve them and they would have to creep into the thick ice to bring them up hoping they didn't cut their hulls and sink... I've read this year the ice around Antartica has grown at a significant rate.........  people like Al Gore disgust me because they are using hype to make themselves very wealthy -- PT Barnum had nothing on these shysters.

Actually, it can.  What the cultists call global warming is really a misnomer for an increase in the mean global temperature, which is merely a fancy-pants way of saying that there is more energy in the atmosphere and related environmental systems.  With more energy in the atmosphere the jet-stream should pick up and should wander more than it does, and thus it should be possible to get more severe storms and more cold air masses being brought down from the poles - resulting in colder weather - than would otherwise be the case in the absence of that increase in the mean global temperature.

The problem with the Global Warming cultists is not that they think climate change is happening - it happens all the time and always has, in fact, right now we're in a relatively benign climate - but that they insist -without any real evidence whatsoever - that all climate change can be traced back to human activity.

That's the crux of it, the mistaken and supremely arrogant belief that human beings control the weather.

Not only that, that humans can somehow know exactly how our behavior controls the weather and can concoct solutions that undo it, in short order, without any side effect.

For instance, particulate matter (smoke, dust, etc.) is known to have a much more direct effect on climate than CO2. It blocks sunlight from even getting into the atmosphere. Its effects, according to scientists, have effectively counteracted any effect increased CO2 has had. However, the AGW promoters try to downplay the role of particulate matter.

Anyway, speaking of CO2... it seems that no matter what we do, it increases anyway, at least according to the breathless report issued a few days ago. Such is the effect of life on Earth. It takes in oxygen and expels CO2. Unless the planet undergoes a mass death, it will increase. (And before we start talking about trees and plants, remember, they also undergo respiration and take back some of the oxygen they create in photosynthesis, creating yet more CO2, especially in winter. Their effect, at best, can slow it down but cannot totally solve the problem.)

The ocean can also absorb co2

Hillary Clinton Has 'Hard Hitting' Climate Change Chat wth Harrison Ford
by Kerry Picket 17 May 2013

In the midst of government investigations, subpoenas, and hearings relating to last September's deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has been laying relatively low since she departed the administration earlier in the year, was interviewed by Hollywood actor Harrison Ford about global warming.

"We are in a race against time," former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Wednesday night, in an interview with actor Harrison Ford.

"We still live in a state of denial," Clinton suggested, regarding the future impacts of climate change. "We see it, we experience it, but we have a great deal of difficulty in summoning the political will ... to address it."

Ford interviewed Clinton on challenges ranging from climate change to poaching as part of Conservation International's annual New York Gala Dinner.

Clinton focused specifically on small Pacific Island nations whose existences, she said, "are truly at stake."

Clinton, the current presidential Democratic front-runner for 2016, testified on Capitol Hill in January about the State Department's handling of the attacks in Libya before during and after the assault on the consulate in Benghazi happened. Republicans are looking toward bringing Clinton back to testify about the Benghazi attack again via subpoena.

But Hillary, seriously, what difference, at this point, does it make?
