Barr blasts Trump's tweets on Stone case: 'Impossible for me to do my job': ABC News Exclusive
The attorney general spoke with ABC News Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas.

In an exclusive interview, Attorney General Bill Barr told ABC News on Thursday that President Donald Trump "has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case” but should stop tweeting about the Justice Department because his tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job.”

Barr’s comments are a rare break with a president who the attorney general has aligned himself with and fiercely defended. But it also puts Barr in line with many of Trump’s supporters on Capitol Hill who say they support the president but wish he’d cut back on his tweets.

“I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases,” Barr told ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas.

When asked if he was prepared for the consequences of criticizing the president – his boss – Barr said “of course” because his job is to run the Justice Department and make decisions on “what I think is the right thing to do.”

Sorry, Mr. Barr, but I don't believe you.  But I agree that Trump should STFU about this case.  I would not be surprised if the judge gives Stone the maximum as a result.

“I’m not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody ... whether it’s Congress, a newspaper editorial board, or the president,” Barr said. “I’m gonna do what I think is right. And you know … I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me.”

Perfect response.... Trump is tough but Barr can handle it...

Why?  Seriously?

First, you are taking on the MOB!  The DC swamp is no different than the 5 Mafia Families when they RAN NYC back in the day.   They owned the pols, owned the Cops, owned the Judges and the Feds.

Second, you have to build an airtight case that even persuades the MORONS that comprise a Washington DC jury.   All retired or "disabled" Federal employees.

C'mon, let this play out.   Barr knows the score and he's letting Durham build the case against these traitorous Quislings.  You don't indict without a probability of conviction.    Every single thing in DC has been crafted BY these scumbags to protect these scumbags.

Tread softly.   What was the old .38 Special tune about men with women?   "Hold on loosely, but don't let go!"

What do you know about Judge Amy Berman Jackson?  If she's not one of Obama's worst robed despots ... she's in the top five. LMAO.

You seem to have a problem discerning good guys from bad guys.   It's a bit of a virus around these here parts.

Seems you have a problem with the judge because Stone was convicted in her courtroom.  Did it ever occur to you that Stone was convicted because he was guilty?  As far as I know, the bad things said about Judge Jackson have come from pro-Trump disgruntled hacks like the Gateway Pundit who have accused her of everything under the sun, but with no real proof of bias or wrongdoing.

So, as I surmised, you know next to nothing about the case or her courtroom stewardship.

Please educate me ... well ... the community.  Tell us everything you know about Roger Stone's great criminal offense and why he should die in prison (he's 68 and he has a nine year sentence).   Give us the rundown, please, because you seem to be an expert on his great criminality.

Explain yourself and your stance.  Do it!  I've had a difficulty around here getting you Never Trumpers to make a lick of sense.

Lying to congress and witness tampering.  Now I don't know what the normal sentence would be for those charges, but I'm told nine years is the max under the guidelines.  I believe the judge could make it less, not sure about more

And by the way, Stone violated a gag order imposed by the judge when he tweeted about the case.  Are you gong to blame that on the judge too?

Unless someone can prove to me with absolute certainty that the evidence was tainted, witnesses lied and the judge or jury were biased, then I'd say the guilty verdict was valid.  I am not going to rely on any screeching from the pro-Trump bloggers who espouse conspiracy theories and suspicions without proof.

(Edited to add:  I looked it up.  The guidelines are guidelines only.  The judge can make a sentence shorter or longer at his or her discretion.

And if Trump continues to disparage the judge, the jury and everyone else connected with the case, I would not be surprised if the judge decides to throw the book at Stone.)

The criticism was focused on the Comey appointed attorneys that the FBI used to screw the process up and no one evidently was aware how crooked these guys were.

Ok ...but exactly what has he done?  There has been all kinds of evidence uncovered regarding Clinton and Biden, etc., and it seems that the only people that are getting indicted and prosecuted are people who worked for or are associated with Trump.

Was it appropriate for Barr to go on national television with this?  Perhaps it gives Barr credibility but it gives the DEMS ammunition for a 2nd impeachment.  Meanwhile ... those in the past administration remain untouched ... all courtesy of Barr.

Could it be that Trump was thinking of firing Barr and him making this announcement on national television will now make it impossible for Trump to fire him.

This is now a huge mess.

The DOJ has been tangled up in the impeachment for months so not surprised. that things don't appear to be moving.

Also Barr is a professional and wont let out what investigations are on going until he is ready.

Tell us what you know about the jury foreman.

As I understand it, she had made posts on social media declaring her dislike for Donald Trump.  I tried to read the posts, but the print was too small for my old eyes.

Now I don't know about federal cases, but in my state, one's political party or political views are generally not questioned in criminal cases.  A juror is supposed to put that aside and consider only the testimony and evidence in the case.  Now if she had made some posts or sent emails during the trial saying Stone was guilty, then I would guess she would have been disqualified.

In any event, I suppose Stone's lawyers can bring this up on appeal.  But unless there is some evidence that the forewoman's political views  tainted her decision and that of the other jurors, I expect Stone would lose on that issue on appeal.

Also, I found this:

Quote
On Wednesday, a court filing revealed that the judge in Stone’s case, Amy Berman Jackson, last week denied a sealed request by Stone to grant him a new trial. Stone had argued that he deserved a new trial on the grounds that the judge rejected his earlier motion at his trial to strike another juror, not Hart, from the case for cause.

Stone had argued that the unidentified juror “should have been removed for bias” because the juror “is employed in a division of the Internal Revenue Service ‘that works hand-in-hand with the Department of Justice prosecuting criminal tax matters,’” and because they ”‘violated the Court’s order to avoid media coverage of the case,’” Jackson wrote.

The judge noted that there was nothing in the juror’s questionnaire or their testimony to support Stone’s claim that the juror works “on criminal matters or interacts with the Department of Justice at all, much less that” the juror “works ‘hand-in-hand’ with Justice Department lawyers prosecuting criminal tax cases.”

If Trump wants to educate the world about Stone's mistreatment via Twitter, I heartily agree. But IMO he should not lend to the impression, however untrue, he is influencing his appointee, AG Barr by cheering on his actions.

Tweets in that regard are unnecessary. Barr obviously is a straight shooter and he clearly denied being influenced by POTUS in any way. He was talking about political static. And by saying what he did he has established his independence which will be necessary when (if) if he lets the other shoe drop on the rats.

I have been unlucky enough to serve on a jury and the dynamic influence of one strong personality is amplified greatly.   A woman like Tomeka Hart, a craven political animal, can easily sway and bully 7 or 11 fellow jurors to accede to her agenda and demands.

I see the usual MSM White Knights are already flocking to her side.   She's as untouchable as Eric Ciaramella.   What's the over/under before Google and YouTube remove her from their search matrix like they've largely done with the "whistleblower"?

Proof?  Or is this another rant from pro-Trump bloggers?

Not everything is a conspiracy.  Again, I ask, have you ever considered the possibility that Stone did wrong, is guilty of his crimes and should be in prison?

Which is?

Unequal application of the law. Prosecutorial misconduct. Jury nullification & politicization of the courts.

How about sending a first time offender guilty of a process crime to jail for life for something the other party regularly skates on?

No.  Nada.  Negative.  No eeefing way.  I don't pray for any of Mueller's henchmen.  They need to be politically eviscerated.

I want President Trump to pardon Stone, LtGen Flynn and Manafort.

More impeachments, more NeverTrumper hissy fits, more MSM Lefty lunacy and tyranny.  So what?  This is a War, let's fight.  To win.  Like Operation Overlord or the battle for Okinawa ... No prisoners taken.   No looking back, no regrets or apologies.

How about Roger Stone not committing the crimes of which he was found guilty?  What's the saying?  Don't do the crime if you can't do the time?

Sorry, but I don't buy the accusations of impropriety here without proof.  And so far I haven't seen any.  Now if there is any, his attorneys can raise these matters on appeal.  The question here is how much time should Stone serve?  This is up to the judge.  These accusations of impropriety have no bearing on Stone's sentence.

This Judge is a stooge for Mueller's attack squad.

She's the "jurist"  ... cough cough ... who oversaw the Manafort case where Mueller's corrupt prosecutors essentially lied about "witness tampering" and she put him in solitary confinement.  For months on end!   SOLITARY CONFINEMENT for God's sake?  They don't even do that to the worst prisoners at FCI Florence!

So am I.   The President should be doggone grateful a man with the courage and qualities of Mr. Barr has agreed to serve in his administration.   For over three years now,  wise folks have been urging the President to go easy on the tweets.   To not be his own worst enemy.   To grow as President into the leader of the nation,  not just the rallyboy for his faction.

"The President should listen [to William Barr's criticism]  because he needs Mr. Barr more than Mr. Barr needs to be AG. The danger for Mr. Trump is that Mr. Barr will resign because he is tired of having his credibility undermined by a President who can't control his political id no matter the damage it causes. . . . Intuitive.
Trump's Fan Club is deaf, dumb and blind to any observation that doesn't exalt him; so their comments are worthless; yet we need to understand the danger here.
Plain people treat politics w/the contempt it fully deserves and vote their narrow self interest.
But they are hardly oblivious to those who publicly nag, pester and rage.
While such behavior is initially ignored, it is rarely forgotten and later may be decisive in
their voting no.
Since his early days Trump has radiated an aggressive and confrontational persona which easily makes enemies and alienates friends, behavior he is uninterested/incapable of altering. So be it.
Consider: in the fall election our economy may be vibrant yet if Trump has more enemies than friends, the result should be obvious.

You are wasting your time @ArneFufkin trying to educate these chowderheads whose minds are made up and won't allow anyone or anything to change them.

So I'm a chowderhead because I question all these claims about corruption, judicial misconduct and such against the judge, the jury forewoman, another juror, the prosecution and anyone else involved in this case not absolutely loyal to Trump.

I've said this many times.  I worked for lawyers for about 35 years.  Ok, they were attorneys specializing in civil litigation, not criminal, but the two types of cases are similar in that, in order for a legal action to go forward, there has to be sufficient evidence.  I can't sue you for wrecking your car into mine if I have no evidence.  Without evidence, I and my suit would be thrown out.  The same applies in criminal cases.

Now I didn't closely follow the Stone case.  I wasn't in the courtroom during the trial.  But Stone was convicted of two charges -- witness tampering and lying to congress -- right?  Let's take the witness tampering charge.  I would assume that the prosecution presented evidence that Stone or someone on his behalf contacted the witness(es) and attempted to intimidate or otherwise influence testimony.  There should be something like a recorded phone conversation, a letter, email, a social media post -- something that demonstrates the attempt to influence the witness(es).  I cannot see any jury convicting Stone without something to back up the charge of witness tampering.

Now how about all these allegations of corruption.  Let's take the judge, for example.  I heard this morning an allegation that she is on Soros' payroll.  So is there evidence?   Canceled checks?  A video of some bagman handing her a wad of cash?  If there isn't any hard evidence to support that claim, then I cannot accept it as fact.  All I can say is that it's a suspicion.

Nothing wrong with suspicions -- I've had quite a few about Trump and have said they are just that, suspicions.  The problem comes in when you accept a suspicion as fact with nothing to support that suspicion.  Seems to me the problem here is that not only can we not trust the mainstream media, we also cannot trust various bloggers, social media and conservative websites either.  There was a time when I thought I could trust Breitbart or Gateway Pundit.  Nowadays everyone, it seems, has a bias and an agenda.  "Fair and balanced" was Fox News' motto, but even Fox doesn't hold to it and these days, neither does anyone else.  Truth is what someone says it is, not what it really is.  We don't consider that maybe someone's truth is a lie.

Ok, getting off my soapbox now.  You all can believe what you want to believe.    I just wanted to raise the possibility that all these allegations of wrongdoing against everyone but Stone can be bogus without proof and I'm suggesting before you believe every claim out there, you look for and demand proof that these claims are true.

Looking forward to seeing you posting here on 11/4.

In this case, the media (the Wall Street Journal) is 100% correct.   The WJS is not Trump's enemy; the editorial is presented as constructive criticism.

From this morning's lead WSJ editorial:

"The President should listen [to William Barr's criticism]  because he needs Mr. Barr more than Mr. Barr needs to be AG. The danger for Mr. Trump is that Mr. Barr will resign because he is tired of having his credibility undermined by a President who can't control his political id no matter the damage it causes. . . . Mr. Trump is his own worst enemy. Time and again his need to dominate the news, to justify even his mistakes, and to rebut every critic gets him into needless trouble.'

I am getting sick and tired of this narcissistic, petulant child in the White House, who refuses to listen to good counsel.   There are millions of Americans who are counting on the GOP to remain in political power to stem the socialist tide.  And it's not going to happen.  Trump is going to blow it all,  and usher in a terrible calamity.

Well here is something that we agree on.  He can't help himself.  If he did manage to win it is doubtful he could carry his presidency for the full 4 years.  Four more years of shady dealings.  Of this firing and that to cover for his presidential "style".  To have total control and brag about it on twitter.

A reflection involving accepting advice.
In his war Dispatches to the Roman Senate, Julius Caesar gave an account of his
decision making process before engaging Vercingetorix, King of the Gauls, in battle:
"Gathering my Centurions before me, each in turn, assessed our plan of battle.
Lastly, I spoke that we would re-gather on the morrow to decide."
Now just imagine Trump in the role of Julius Caesar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile Stone goes to jail for up to 9 years for a process crime in a case that went nowhere.

I guess we'll just have to quietly accept today's "justice".

Same swamp creatures remain because Trump is the swamp!

These guys have all been around and around in Washington D.C.

The reason there are problems is because they are all connected.  Manafort was in business with Stone.

Manafort was under FBI investigation in 2014

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was wiretapped under a foreign intelligence warrant in connection with U.S. concerns that he was communicating with Russian operatives who wanted to influence the American election, a former U.S. official familiar with the intelligence confirms to CBS News' Andres Triay.

The warrants were issued before Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel to take over the investigation from the FBI.
According to CNN, which first reported the Manafort wiretapping, the FBI began the surveillance in 2014, as a result of consulting work done by Washington firms for the pro-Russian party of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych,

If he was guilty, and he was by a jury of his peers,   why would it matter?  Let him rot there.  That is, unless you think he needs to get off since he is associated with Trump?  Which is kind of what I extrapolate from your comment.

Just in case anyone here is wondering, The President literally cannot “interfere with” the DOJ. He is the constitutional authority responsible for supervising everything it does and every case it handles.

Article II, Section 3, Clause 5, United States Constitution

"he shall take care that the laws are faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States."

Well, I don't have a whole lot of confidence that this president is all that respecting of the Constitution -- possibly because he's not necessarily familiar with its provisions.  He seems to think he can do whatever he wants, and that's part of the fallout from his acquittal in the impeachment farce.  Now he seems to think he's invincible.
