Pecker says most Arnold Schwarzenegger payments were between $500 and $2K
By Kyle Schnitzer

Under redirect, where the prosecution gets to question its witness a second time, after the defense's cross-examination, David Pecker said that most of his payments to bury bad stories about Arnold Schwarzenegger were between $500 and $2,000 — but never anything close to $150,000.

"Did you spend anything close to $150,000 to suppress a story for Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign?" Manhattan ADA Joshua Steinglass asked.

"No," Pecker replied.

Pecker said that the most he had ever spent to suppress one of Schwarzenegger's stories was $20,000.

China is ‘moving at breathtaking speed in space,’ Space Force general says in Tokyo

By SETH ROBSON STARS AND STRIPES • April 25, 2024 The head of U.S. Space Command, Space

TOKYO — U.S. Space Command’s new leader warned of China’s rapidly advancing space capabilities this week following meetings with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts. “We’re seriously focused at U.S. Space Command on our pacing challenge, which is the People’s Republic of China,” Space Force Gen. Stephen Whiting told reporters during an online press conference from Japan’s capital Wednesday. The Tokyo stop was part of a tour that has included visits to South Korea and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii. Beijing is “moving at breathtaking speed in space,” Whiting said, noting that China is rapidly developing a range of counter-space weapons that threaten American space capabilities.

Editorials / Re: MAGA - What Exactly Does That Mean ?
« Last post by HikerGuy83 on Today at 04:57:22 pm »
BTW: Debt is way past 34 trillion.

Biden is headed for a 2.5 trillion dollar deficit this year.

We'll be at 40 trillion by the end of the decade.

I have not hear or seen anything from the MAGA crowd on that one.

Making America better would include getting the debt under control and balancing the budget.

I might start a group called MASA: Make America Sane Again

or Make America Solvent Again.

Merrick Garland Defies Final Warning to Comply with Biden Audio Subpoena or Face Contempt

Wendell Husebø 26 Apr 2024

Attorney General Merrick Garland defied a final warning Thursday to comply with a subpoena for the audio of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.

If Garland did not comply with the subpoena, he would face contempt of Congress proceedings, House Oversight Committee chair James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote Garland on April 17.

Biden’s Justice Department replied Thursday to Comer and Jordan by refusing to hand over the audio, citing a lack of “legitimate congressional need” for it.

“If the Committees’ goal is to receive information from the Department in furtherance of your investigations, that goal has been more than met,” Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte replied Thursday. “Our cooperation has been extraordinary.”

“Despite our many requests,” he added, “the Committees have not articulated a legitimate congressional need to obtain audio recordings from Mr. Hur’s investigation, let alone one that outweighs the Department’s strong interest in protecting the confidentiality of law enforcement files.”

“Lacking a justification for complaint—never mind contempt—in the actual record, the Committees’ threats deepen our concern that you are seeking to create a false narrative of obstruction that weakens, rather than strengthens, the American people’s confidence in our government and the rule of law,” Uriarte continued.

“The Department will not shirk from our duty to protect the public’s interest in the integrity of law enforcement work. We hope you find this information helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact this office if we may provide additional assistance regarding this or any other matter,” he claimed.

‘Invisible’–More Women Veterans Are Dying of Suicide and VA Still Lacks Resources, Advocates Say
APRIL 25, 2024| ANNE MARSHALL-CHALMERS

Active-duty service members and veterans thinking of harming themselves can get free crisis care. Contact the Military Crisis Line at 988, then press 1, or access online chat by texting 838255.

When she joined the Navy in 2001, Jennifer Alvarado wanted to excel, to be, in her words, a “stellar sailor.” After boot camp, she worked as a hospital corpsman and pursued extra medical and weapons certification courses to prove her work ethic.

Her home life on the military base was a different story: She hid the stress and increasing danger of her relationship with her husband from everyone. One evening in 2005, with her two small boys in the apartment, Alvarado argued with her husband and the altercation turned violent. He beat her, she said in a recent phone interview, and then stormed out and took her car. She called the police on the military base. “My secret was out in the open,” she said. “The shame just came out of my pores.”
