CNN’s Chris Cuomo threatened to throw a man down stairs for calling him ‘Fredo,’ comparing it to the n-word

A profanity-laced video surfaced Monday night showing CNN anchor Chris Cuomo threatening to throw a man down the stairs for calling him “Fredo,” referring to the fictional character Fredo Corleone from “The Godfather” films.

But the core of the backlash centered on one claim from Cuomo: that calling an Italian person “Fredo” was comparable to using the n-word — an assertion that had many Italian Americans scratching their heads and other critics calling Cuomo out of bounds.

“Are any of you Italian?” Cuomo asked the group of men involved in the confrontation. “It’s an insult to your people. ... It’s like the n-word for us.”

On Monday night, CNN also said it stood by the host.

“Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup,” CNN spokesman Matt Dornic said in a statement on Twitter. “We completely support him.”

The video, which blew up after being published on a right-wing YouTube channel called “THAT’S THE POINT with Brandon,” captures Cuomo growing agitated and ultimately threatening violence after an unidentified man approaches him and apparently calls him “Fredo.” The host of the channel, Brandon Recor, told The Washington Post that the video was captured at a bar in Shelter Island, N.Y., on Sunday and sent to him by the man in the confrontation, who went up to Cuomo to ask for a picture.

Truthfully, Cuomo is probably more like meathead Sonny than whiny Fredo.  But calling him "Fredo" clearly got under his skin, so Trump is probably right about it being a better nickname for an enemy.

This looks like a 'red flag' to me.  The Feds need to make sure Cuomo can never own a firearm.

The profanity and threats of violence indicate to me that Cuomo is not very mature. Most adults would just say, "Yeah, whatever, leave me alone" and walk away. Instead, Chris engages stupidly with "Fredo is our n-word" (news to every Italian-American) and then threatens to kill the guy. Classy.

Hmm.... ultimately threatening violence, eh?   Thus showing, once again and as always, how hypocritical and thin-skinned these leftists are.   They can dish it out all day long, but when it comes to taking it (the name-calling and taunting)... they sure as hell can't take it ...and go ballistic.   Funny as hell how un-self-aware they are.

Being called "Fredo" is implying mental deficiency. 

Cuomo believes being labeled "Dumb" or low IQ, is the same as being a Black of the lowest denominator.

I mentioned "Fredo" to Bob this morning and he immediately knew you don't call an Italian "Fredo".

Why he knew this:
He grew up in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  He is 84 so has known about groups living there since early times.

In that town, the people from different countries lived in their sections:
The Polish lived in one area, the Italians lived in one area, the Irish lived in one area.  These divisions were so "together" that there was a Polish undertaker who buried the Polish, an Italian one buried the Italians, an Irish one who buried the Irish.  Each of those from their country was buried in the same section of a graveyard.  I also know this because Bob's father was Polish, owned a funeral home and only buried Polish people. The undertakers could also bury anyone not from one of these countries.

Bob married an Italian woman in that area.  When he did that, he was accepted by the Italians.  He was presented by his Italian father-in-law to the main Italian man, who was sort of like the Godfather of the Italians there.

"The Godfather" movie came out in 1972.  From that time forward, the name "Fredo" was a huge insult to Italians in Penn.  So would it be to all Italians on the upper east coast, including for sure New York State.  That is why Cuomo lost it when he was called that name - it was an insult to his people going back to 1972.

In the novel, Fredo was born premature, slight of build, not at all an 'Alpha male' like Sonny and not having the intellect to run an operation...pampered by his mother.

Cuomo "threatened" to throw the man downstairs, but he did not.

Trump did do this: When Trump was sent by his parents to a military high school hoping the school would change his aggressive behavior, a student said something to Trump he did not like, and he picked the kid up to throw him out the second story window.  Another student grabbed him so he could not throw the kid out. 

Cuomo did not do it; Trump did but was stopped.

Everyone contemplating life in the public sphere needs to understand the "Streisand effect", the phenomenon by which objecting too loudly to or trying to suppress or censor something one would like others to ignore makes the thing objected to far better known than it would be otherwise.
