Gov. Jared Polis signs bill eliminating most occupancy limits in housing — here’s what is still allowed
4/16/2024
Seth Klamann

DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill into law Monday that officially eliminates most restrictions on how many unrelated roommates can live together in Colorado.

House Bill 1007 prohibits local governments from enacting occupancy limits, which Polis and other critics of the policy have derided as discriminatory and outdated. Roughly two dozen Colorado cities have such restrictions on the books, though lawmakers said that only a few — including the college town of Fort Collins — actively enforce them.

“This issue is both a housing issue and a civil rights issue,” Polis said during a bill-signing ceremony outside the Capitol. “It really is both. For housing, the opportunity for people to officially be on the lease — it gives them protections, allows them to start establishing their credit, gives them the certainty that they get to live here.”

A single plane, from a single contractor - what's the worst that could happen?

Boys in the Pentagon better accelerate the retirement and melting of "legacy" air superiority platforms to save the F-35 Program from a dirt nap.

Biden under fire for shutting down US oil production, urged to impose sanctions on Venezuela
'Joe Biden needs to wake the hell up and stop appeasing dictators and the eco-colonialists – fast,' says Sen Dan Sullivan

FIRST ON FOX: A group of top Senate Republican leaders is urging President Biden to block oil sanctions relief for the Venezuelan government, an authoritarian regime which continues to oppress its opponents.

The seven lawmakers, led by Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, sent a letter to the president Friday, calling on him to cancel the so-called General License 44, which is set to come up for renewal later this week. They argued that Venezuela's government has failed to meet key requirements related to ensuring fair elections that it agreed to when the Biden administration issued the six-month license last year.

"History has proven time and time again that appeasing dictators does not work. We strongly urge you to reinstate and fully enforce all U.S. sanctions on the [Nicolás] Maduro regime," they wrote. "We must not cede American leverage by lifting U.S. sanctions while the Maduro government deliberately disregards its obligations."

"If the U.S. fails to take a credible stance on ensuring free and fair elections are held in Venezuela, the prospects of a democratic Venezuela will continue to diminish, which will further embolden authoritarian aggressors such as the People’s Republic of China, Iran, and Russia," the lawmakers continued.

Trump 'looks exactly like he does on TV': dismissed juror
By Priscilla DeGregory

A woman who was dismissed from jury selection at the trial against Donald Trump Tuesday said the former president "looks exactly like he does on TV."

Kara McGee was let go because of a conflict in her schedule at work in cybersecurity.

Excused juror Kara McGee speaks to reporters on her way out of court in Manhattan on Tuesday.

"I don’t like him," she said of the former commander-in-chief.AP

Outside court, McGee said she "hilariously" thought the presumptive Republican presidential nominee "looks exactly like he does on TV" after making eye contact with him when she raised the issue of her schedule.

"I don’t like him," she said to CNN of the former commander-in-chief. "I don’t approve of what he did as president, but the right to a fair trial is extremely important."

She said while she realized the trial is an important milestone in history, she also realized Trump is "just a dude," the outlet reported.

The F-35 program is costing more and doing less, GAO says
Total sustainment costs are now expected to top $1.5 trillion, even as the jet’s mission-readiness declines.

The estimated lifetime cost to operate and maintain the Pentagon’s F-35s just took a big jump, even though the U.S. military is flying the jet less.

The total cost of operating and maintaining the triservice jet is now expected to surpass $1.5 trillion, up 44% since a 2018 estimate, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office. The increase largely reflects the military’s decision to push the aircraft’s retirement from 2077 to 2088, but also includes other factors that are driving costs up.

The Defense Department has tried to reduce costs on the program, but “DOD officials generally agree that these efforts are not likely to fundamentally change the estimated costs to operate the aircraft,” the report said.

GAO also notes that the Pentagon plans to fly the F-35 fighter jet less often than originally planned, due partly to “reliability issues,” GAO said, which have contributed to a five-year decline in readiness.

What's the worst that could happen when the US Constitution prevents Trump from having a 3rd term?  It's not like Trump would do something "wild" to stay in office for a 3rd Term.

Why do Putin, Xi, and Rocket Man get to stay in office for life, but Trump doesn't?  That's not fair.

HSI Baltimore investigation lands Maryland MS-13 member 24 years in federal prison for his role in racketeering conspiracy

Conspirator took part in the murder of a suspected gang rival in Silver Spring
BALTIMORE — An investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore, FBI Baltimore and the Montgomery County Police Department resulted in a 24-year federal prison sentence for a Maryland MS-13 gang member for his role in a racketeering conspiracy. Jose Lainez-Martinez, 29, a Salvadoran national residing in Silver Spring, received the 24-year prison sentence March 26 after pleading guilty to his participation in a racketeering conspiracy, which included a murder, related to his activities as part of the MS-13 gang. Lainez-Martinez’s prison sentence will be followed by five years of supervised release.

“The acts of Jose Lainez-Martinez and other members of this violent transnational criminal organization led to the tragic loss of a young man’s life,” said HSI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge James C. Harris. “Hopefully, this prison sentence will deter others who engage in fraud and terror as a way of life.”

According to the investigation, from at least January 2020, Lainez-Martinez was a member or associate of the MS-13 Fulton Locos Salvatruchas clique and agreed with members of MS-13 to conduct and participate in the gang’s affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity that included murder, conspiracy to commit murder, extortion and drug distribution. Lainez-Martinez admitted that to help the gang to raise money, he sold marijuana and collected extortion money from brothels and other businesses, providing the proceeds to gang leadership.
