About 3 days ago I was listening to and singing along with this exact video. What are the chances? I couldn't remember all the words and was on my way to find them when I started listening to other songs by The Village Stompers and observed that modulation seems to be a trademark in all their recordings. I mainly associate Ralph Carmichael - I won't claim to be familiar with his work - with Christian music. Here is W'pedia's bio page on him, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Carmichael (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Carmichael) . Apparently he is still alive, age 92. Besides working with Nat King Cole, he also, "wrote arrangements for many other top performers, including Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Jack Jones, Peggy Lee, Julie London, Al Martino and Roger Williams. He arranged most of the carols on the 1961 Stan Kenton album A Merry Christmas!."

This was a surprise. I didn't know Sandra Dee sang. I assumed she lipsynched the song that someone else sang (a la Natalie Wood in "West Side Story"). For me, Debbie Reynolds will always be Tammy, just as Sandra Dee will always be Gidget.

Funny. The only thing I remember about this movie is "The new phonebook is here! The new phonebook is here!"
As he was discovering his rhythm, he went from snapping on 2 and 4 to 1 and 3. It was probably a continuity flaw in the film, but it works for the story.
Listening to people clap (or snap) on the 1 and 3 is painful to me, which is why I love this clip where Harry Connick, Jr., tricks the audience into clapping on the upbeat (at about the 39-second mark). Watch the drummer (who's probably the one most affected by the downbeat clapping) celebrate in the background.

When I was in high school in 1970 +/- 2 years "Cotton Candy" was one of our regulars in Marching Band. Speaking of Marching Band memories:

The year before my freshman year the high school's Marching Band went to the Rose Parade and "Georgy Girl" was one of the songs to which they marched. I missed out on the Rose Parade, but we played it in SF's Columbus Day Parade in my freshman year. OTOH, in my senior year we traveled up to Victoria, BC for the Victoria Day Parade (honoring Queen Victoria's birthday). Missed one cool event, made another cool event. This was all pretty heady stuff for the only high school in a town of 20K-25K.

This is great and not too long ago, I listened to one of those Jackie Gleason orchestra(?) albums, this is probably his most famous one that you posted but another one I listened too as well. It checks all the boxes for being "music for squares".
Per Washington Square, it belongs here... those vocals and some versions also actually, imho, put it in the "folk music" category, there were a lot of good folk songs in the day and I don't consider a lot of that for squares but a lot of it fits in here. I toyed with a "folk music" thread but I don't know the music well enough, sure, Dylan, Baez, Seeger, Kingston Trio and so on probably fit that.
We have a "folk music" store here, I've window shopped on but have never gone in. It looks like instruments, sheet music and such. I don't know what else they might have but I don't want to push that distinctly different category into this one too much though, there can be some overlap.

Yes, some of these have a few artists who performed them, Raymond's probably the original. It's hard to choose. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore where artists will perform one song or instrumental in this case, that was a hit.
