NBC caved to ‘enormous pressure’ to make town hall a ‘nightmare for Trump’
By Thomas Lifson
Last night, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie morphed from debate moderator into a vehement, partisan opponent during a town hall-style television program with President Trump, as both Andrea Widburg and E. Jeffrey Ludwig chronicle this morning. In doing so, she and her bosses at NBC and its parent Comcast at least partially satisfied Trump-hating critics, who exerted what New York Times reporter Ben Smith called “enormous pressure†to make the experience “a nightmare.â€

Enormous pressure on NBC now to make this thing a nightmare for Trump.
11:43 AM · Oct 15, 2020
Some of the pressure came from the network’s own employees, current and former. But the network posed as bravely fair in offering Trump equal time and a purportedly similar to that given Biden recently in the same city, Miami.
The network considered it important that Trump be given the same format, day of the week and length of time that Biden had on NBC last week — although he will have a different moderator. Savannah Guthrie will be Trump's host after Lester Holt moderated the Biden event.

... New York Times reporter Ben Smith called “enormous pressure†to make the experience “a nightmare.â€
Given Ben Smith's history of reliable - if not extreme - partisanship, that's quite an admission!
That said, who won the debate? Savannah Guthrie or President Trump? :pop41: yogi555
-
The story today will be the discrepancy in how Guthrie treated Trump in relation to the insufferable weenie Stephanopolous' obsequious treatment of Biden. The rat media could not have illustrated it more clearly last night.
-
It's like I said, would you rather have a President that couldn't get away with anything, or a President that the press will willingly cover for?

Any "behind the scenes" from Biden's town hall?

Any "behind the scenes" from Biden's town hall?
Once Biden was finished getting a tongue bath, his back rubbed and a happy ending, they probably threw a coat over him and ushered him out the back door, sidestepping the chance of running into a hard question. Old folks gotta avoid speak-and-fall injuries, you know.

does anyone know what the ratings were for both town halls?
Early Ratings: Biden’s ABC Town Hall Tops Trump’s on NBC
Initial Nielsen numbers don’t include MSNBC viewership or time-zone adjustments
And the (ratings) battle of the Thursday town halls goes to…former Vice President Joe Biden and ABC! For now, at least.
On ABC, Biden drew 12.7 million viewers from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. On NBC alone, Trump got 10.4 million viewers in the same time slot. Including the full 9 o’clock hour for Biden, the ABC event’s viewership average was 12.2 million.
Biden also beat Trump among adults 18-49, with a 2.6 rating to the president’s 1.7 rating.

I just watched a few minutes and had to switch it off. Savannah has a Pennywise the Clown smile. I never trust anyone with a fake grin, and certainly not one who wears it as she talks about covid deaths.

The Wrap. Biden beats Trumps, there's a surprise.

The Wrap. Biden beats Trumps, there's a surprise.
When those who watched Stephanopoulos perform journalistic gratification on Biden, and then see the clips of the debate between Savannah Guthrie and President Trump, they might think they got stuck watching an episode of Romper Room compared with the cage match over at NBC. Talk about Steffy pitching soft balls.
-
Isn't this the same woman who interviewed Nick Sandmann, and claimed he was being aggressive? Trump's team never should have agreed to this.

Did you miss the part where the town hall audience hung around afterwards to tell the President "we've got your back", "we love you" and take selfies with him?

As with the first "debate", Trump supporters are loathe to boost ratings for anti-Trump networks and cables. We live by Trump friendly YouTube streams .... wink777
These totals should be published later today.

Per the script, Biden got higher broadcast and fundraising ratings.

Who expected these hacks to report anything other than unflattering Trump news now?

The lesson the Rats are refusing to learn is Trump is the sort of person who looks better under pressure. The more mud they sling at him, the cleaner he looks. I hope they keep this up for a few more weeks.

Naw, Trump held his own at the inquisition and laid bare the mainstream media's craven partiality.

That is an excellent point that I had never considered!

Per script? I don't have any problem giving em the raw numbers. Just goes to show, nobody's listening to Cable.

I'm sure at least a couple of million people watched just to marvel at Sloe Joe's ability to form words.

And that points out a very good point. It's a lot easier to get ABC on streaming, but damned near impossible to get PMSNBC. I suppose it's findable, but it's not worth it just to get Joy Reid.
The broadcast version of NBC is Unobtainable.
The ability to stream really, really skews the ratings. As an aside, I can't get NBC at all on the free air where I live. Can't get PBS either, but that's no loss. (As another aside, I used to work for a PBS station that had a distinction: They were one of the few stations in the country that weren't dead last in the local ratings.)

No doubt both are available... if not directly, then by second/third sources. I wonder what the views will be after online streaming matures.
Its no nevermind to me otherwise. I was just interested in the statistics. I don't watch any of the presidential crap anyway.

Trying to divine the public sentiment by ratings is a fools errand. People could be watching simply because they've had wall-to-wall Trump, and Shortbus Joe has been cloistered in his basement. They want to hear what he has to say without interruption, and by golly, they got it last night. Not good for Joe.

The fact that Pres. Trump speaks to crowds every day...and night, it's not a surprise that millions of his base tuned in to see if Joe Biden was getting massaged or if he started drooling, etc..

As far back as i can remember, Presidential debates have always heavily favored democrats, and more often than not trashed Republicans as best as they can. Expecting fair and equal treatment from democrats means your either very new to politics or an I.Q. far lower than you realize. 22222frying pan

@Right_in_Virginia
I may be wrong, but I think pretty much everyone who is even casually interested in national politics know by now how the media and the Dims try to stack the deck against Trump, while completely ignoring the FACT that Slow Joe is a senile old fool.
IMHO,the Dims once again "overreached",and are going to lose this election because of it.
If they think Bad Orange Man was tough on them in the first term, wait until the second term, and he no longer gives a damn WHAT they say about him. I suspect he is going to start issuing a lot of executive orders when the Dims try to block him,and this is going to end up causing the Dims and their RINO brothers a LOT of problems during the mid-term elections. Even with their standard and advanced cheating, the Dims are going to take a whooping.
The casual voters are starting to pay attention to what is going on,and they ain't liking it.

You'd be surprised at how many people I know that actually think they're getting a square view of the world from CNN. True.

Yes, POTUS does a lot of speaking. It made twitter, that he mispronounced a word. lol As if that was something fatal.
Good Lord, all of us do that at times.
