Biden makes new play for 157,000 Haley voters who rejected Trump in Pennsylvania

President Joe Biden‘s campaign is seizing on Republican voters in Pennsylvania frustrated with former President Donald Trump in a new ad released on Thursday that targets former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley supporters.

More than 157,000 registered Republican voters snubbed Trump and voted for Haley during the Keystone State’s primary on Tuesday, a worrying sign in the crucial battleground state.

The 30-second “If You Voted For Nikki Haley…” ad is part of the Biden campaign’s six-figure ad buy as it gets more aggressive in courting Haley’s supporters, nearly two months after she dropped out of the 2024 race.

“For months, Donald Trump told Nikki Haley voters that he didn’t want their support, and they heard him loud and clear — that’s why more than 157,000 of them voted against him in an uncontested primary,” Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement. “Our campaign has been clear from the beginning that we welcome anyone who knows that four more years of Trump would destroy our freedoms and devastate our country.”

Gorsuch steers Supreme Court in Trump immunity case: ‘We’re writing a rule for the ages’

Justice Neil Gorsuch on Thursday took control of the debate at the Supreme Court in a case brought by former President Donald Trump on whether he enjoys immunity from criminal prosecution.

During Thursday’s arguments over Trump’s bid to have total presidential immunity against special counsel Jack Smith‘s four-count election subversion indictment, Gorsuch suggested that former presidents like Trump must have immunity or else future presidents could be targeted for prosecution and could therefore seek to pardon themselves before leaving office.

“We’ve never answered whether a president can do that; happily, it’s never been presented to us,” Gorsuch said of whether a president can pardon himself. Gorsuch indicated that he dreads the idea of having to decide whether presidents can use such authority on themselves.

Gorsuch, Trump’s first of three appointees to the high court, underscored the historical significance of the former president’s case and the Supreme Court’s eventual ruling on the matter of presidential immunity.

“I’m not concerned about this case, but I am concerned about future uses of the criminal law to target political opponents based on accusations about their motives,” Gorsuch said, adding, “We’re writing a rule for the ages.”

“What would happen if presidents were under fear that their successors would criminally prosecute them for their acts in office?” Gorsuch asked, citing hypotheticals other justices used, such as one hypothetical about whether former President Barack Obama could be prosecuted for authorizing a drone strike on civilians.

Joe Rogan claims he would vote for RFK Jr. if he makes it on ballot

Podcaster Joe Rogan offered his vote to presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. because he “is a great person.”

Rogan casually made the comment without being asked about his endorsement during an episode of his podcast that aired Wednesday. In a discussion on censorship with comedian Francis Foster and political commentator Konstantin Kisin, Rogan implied that “there are no real quality human beings out there running for office” with a small exception.

“The real problem is people that want that job [as a politician] shouldn’t have that job. There is a rare few. I think RFK is a great person; I would vote for him. I think Tulsi Gabbard is a great person; I would vote for her,” Rogan said. “There’s people I think that are running for office, and they’re legitimately trying to do well for the world. They’re trying to make a better place. They think they have ideas that would sort out some of the problems that we have, and they’re one of us. That’s real.”

Trump’s appeal request for $83 million E Jean Carroll defamation verdict denied

Former President Donald Trump’s appeal request for E. Jean Carroll’s $83 million defamation suit verdict was denied.

In January, Trump was ordered to pay $83.3 million in a defamation lawsuit stemming from his denial of Carroll’s claim that he raped her in the mid-1990s. Trump almost immediately announced he would appeal the decision, an appeal that was shot down on Thursday.

In an 18-page ruling, Judge Lewis Kaplan dismissed the legal argument Trump’s attorneys used, saying that the legal precedent cited “has no application to the present case.”

“In short, the argument — which Mr. Trump previously made to the jury, conspicuously without success, and which defies common sense — does not warrant dismissal as a matter of law,” he wrote.

When the ruling was made in January, Trump released a statement bashing the verdicts.

“Absolutely ridiculous!” he said. “I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights.”

Protesters from several DC-area schools unite in large demonstration at GWU as faculty join in

Students and faculty at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., are protesting in support of Palestinians in the latest wave of pro-Gaza protests on college campuses.

In a statement, officials for GWU, a private university located within 1 mile of the White House, said protesters need to move by 7 p.m. as overnight encampments are not permitted. They also said the space where the protest is being held was not a viable option for demonstrations.

“University Yard was previously reserved and is not available for demonstrations,” the statement reads. “GW Law final exams are taking place at adjacent buildings.”

University officials also said “non-GW individuals” were not permitted to demonstrate on university grounds.

‘First we take Columbia’: Pro-Palestinian activists spread occupation guidebook to overrun schools

.

Pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University and Yale University are circulating a guidebook to activists across the country encouraging more occupations and teaching them how to be successful.

The pamphlet, titled “First We Take Columbia: Lessons from the April 1968 Occupations Movement,” was anonymously written by protesters at the Columbia and Yale encampments and published in left-wing dissident magazine Ill Will on Saturday. It was distributed by hand at the Columbia encampment on Monday.

Since its distribution, occupations have popped up at a growing number of universities across the country, including most recently George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The pamphlet is available in English, French, Turkish, Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese.

“When you seize a town, a campus, get hold of the power stations, the water, the transportation, forget to negotiate, forget how to negotiate, don’t wait for De Gaulle or Kirk to abdicate, they won’t, you are not ‘demonstrating’ you are fighting a war, fight to win, don’t wait for Johnson or Humphrey or Rockefeller, to agree to your terms take what you need, ‘it’s free because it’s yours,'” the letter begins, quoting American poet Diane Di Prima’s Revolutionary Letter #15.

The pamphlet, which was shared by groups including Palestine Action U.S. and the national Students for Justice in Palestine organization, was also supported by the encampment organizing coalition Columbia University Apartheid Divest, which commented on social media in approval.
