Richard Branson Plans Live Aid-Style Concert on Venezuela’s Border
Matthew Bristow

(Bloomberg) -- Virgin Atlantic founder Sir Richard Branson is planning a concert on the Venezuelan border in a bid to pressure the government of President Nicolas Maduro to let in humanitarian aid supplies.

The billionaire said in a video clip that he’s organizing “a wonderful line-up of international and regional artists” in the Colombian city of Cucuta on Feb. 22, in response to a request by opposition leaders Juan Guaido and Leopoldo Lopez. Guaido is recognized as president by more than than 30 countries, while his mentor Lopez is under house arrest in Caracas.

Virgin’s press office confirmed that the video circulating on social media is genuine, and said that Branson will be sharing more information on the subject soon.

Fantastic news and kind of a shocker that he'd be doing this. I do wonder who might be the guess and it will already occur in about a weeks time, 8 days, about next Friday it sounds like.  Pretty amazing.

Yeah....uh....no.  I don't trust Branson.  Especially after he and Barry were warm and cozy right after Barry left office.  Anything he does henceforth is highly suspect, IMO.

This guy is a carnival barker. A huckster.  Find out what he has to gain and will find his game.

It'd be a hoot if his little stunt triggered an all out conflict between Venezuela and Columbia.

I had not thought of it that way. I'm  by no means a Branson fan, but if the concert recognizes the new president of Venezuela or helps the people, it could be a good thing.

Some do not like Willie Nelson's political views but still like his music.

@XenaLee

I see more of an upside than down.

Well... let's hope that you're right and my gut feeling is wrong.  I love to be wrong whenever I sense impending doom...lol.

If Maduro acquiesces, that could legitimize his regime... the last thing we need.

Also, reading the rest of the article, it sounds like somewhat local Spanish talent will headline the show, Venezuelans and Colombians that is. Maybe someone more will show up. I don't know, it sounds so spur of the moment and as for someone like U2 or Willie for example, I don't think it'd be the right place to go. There's probably a lot of crime there now.

This seems like a very inappropriate action for the circumstances.

There isn't much appropriate about the Virgin Airline founder.

Nothing like this in particular has ever been done, we will see how it works. Concerts at the border? Novel idea, maybe it will catch on! The article mentions some little town so maybe that is where the concert will actually be. In Cucuta.

The concert was called just days after Roger Waters, co-founder of the rock band Pink Floyd, criticized the United States and expressed support for Maduro.

International assistance from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico has arrived in recent days and awaits distribution.

Branson is on the side of the same guy we are supporting, Guiado and the Pink Floyd guy as can be expected, is siding with the Maduro government. Again, I've been no fan of Branson but it appears he is very much doing the right thing here.

Most revolting rich racist of the day: Sir Richard Branson to throw obscenely luxurious party in Havana for his 70th birthday
Now, in all honesty, Branson from above, to throw big luxury party in Havana for his 70th birthday, this is unacceptable.   I will have to see how this jives with this concert? That is suppose to help the Venezuelans who are being denied medical and other humanitarian aid, that part sounded good.

We should know how all of this goes in a week to 10 days I'd say. He either does good or bad with the concert in this town.
