Rasmussen Poll: Majority Favors Military, Entitlement Cuts

Thursday, 15 Nov 2012 12:46 PM

By Stephen Feller

A new poll shows that just under half the country thinks that defense and entitlement budgets, which make up a significant share of the federal budget, need to be cut.

The Rasmussen Reports poll also found that half the country thinks Congress and the White House will be able to come together on a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff before January 1.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters found that 42 percent of respondents agree that defense and entitlement spending needs to be curbed in order to get the budget deficit under control. Thirty-one percent said “major cuts” were not necessary and 27 percent weren’t sure.

Rasmussen said that in the same poll 51 percent of those polled think a deal will be reached to avoid across the board tax hikes and massive spending cuts that members of Congress, who voted for the law that created them, worry will drag the economy back down into a statistical recession. Forty-two percent think a deal will not be reached.

In a separate question, 15 percent said a deal was “very likely” while another 15 percent said a deal was “not likely at all.”

The margin of error in the poll is three percent.

Figures...the first people always to get hit is the military and their families....two days after the election we found out our TRICARE plan is being eliminated....thanks to the American people who voted for this ass.....you never see cutbacks to personnel or their benefits of the federal government.

It's too bad the economy is so bad all the military who want to resign or not re-enlist have no place to go if they leave...

This is insane. Why do the polls all of a sudden show this garbage and that it is all Bushes fault?

PROPAGANDA lies!!!

The lower enlisted qualify for food stamps and Navy Relief (if they still have Navy Relief anymore) If they gut retirees healthcare or pay; or anything in the military, it will be a moral gutless, sin.

sounds to me like most don't favor these cuts.

Are people this stupid that vote in these polls?
