Wildfires rage across U.S. Northwest, California governor blames climate change

Sacramento, Calif. (Reuters) - Wildfires that have already destroyed at least half a dozen small towns in the northwestern United States raged largely uncontrolled on Friday as California’s governor called the fire season evidence of a climate emergency.
As of Friday afternoon about 500,000 people in Oregon were on notice to be ready to flee advancing flames, and crews picked through the smoldering rubble of destroyed homes in search of fatalities.
“This is a climate damn emergency. This is real and it’s happening. This is the perfect storm,†California Governor Gavin Newsom told reporters from a charred mountainside near Oroville, California.
In southern Oregon, an apocalyptic scene of burned residential subdivisions and trailer parks stretched for miles along Highway 99 south of Medford through Phoenix and Talent, one of the most devastated areas.
Beatriz Gomez Bolanos, 41, told her four children to close their eyes as fires burned on both sides of their car as they made their escape from the Bear Creek Mobile Home south of Medford as sparks began to rain down on their house.
“Everything is gone. We have to start again from nothing, but we are alive,†said Gomez Bolanos.
Molalla, a community about 25 miles (40 km) south of downtown Portland, was an ash-covered ghost town after its more than 9,000 residents were told to evacuate, with only 30 refusing to leave, the city’s fire department said.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), without evidence, declared Friday that the ongoing wildfires in his state prove the science surrounding global warming is now officially settled.
“The debate is over around climate change. Just come to the state of California, observe it with your own eyes,†a grinning Newsom told reporters while touring the fire-ravaged North Complex near Oroville. “It’s not an intellectual debate, it’s not even debatable.â€
“We’re in the midst of a climate emergency, we’re in the midst of a climate crisis,†he continued. “We’re experiences weather conditions the likes of which we’ve never experienced in our lifetime. We’re experiencing what so many people predicted decades and decades ago. All of that now is reality.â€

Oregon braces for a "mass fatality incident" as wildfires approach Portland

This week's death toll from fires in Oregon, Washington and California now stands at 18, as at least 100 major fires burn in 11 western states. As flames push closer to the city of Portland, the mayor has declared a state of emergency — and state officials say they're now preparing for a "mass fatality incident."
More than half a million people — 12% of the state's population — have fled from their homes in Oregon and mass evacuations are underway across the region. Oregon's governor said Thursday that dozens may be missing in her state.
The monstrous fires are moving so quickly that they're overwhelming fire crews. The fires are also creating choking smoke from Los Angeles to Seattle. Portland and San Francisco now have the worst air quality in the world — and officials are urging people to stay indoors.
In Berry Creek, California, what used to be a lakeside community full of homes is now incinerated. One fire has claimed at least 10 lives, including that of 16-year-old Josiah Williams, who was found last night near his home.
In Washington, Jamie and Jake Hyland lost their 1-year-old son Uriel and their unborn child after they couldn't escape the flames. The couple suffered severe burns.
"In my worst dreams, I couldn't imagine what my sister and brother-in law had to go through and to do everything they could to fight for their lives and to protect their child," said Dawnmarie Baxter. "And so to lose him and her baby, it's, there's no words and nothing will ever make it right."
There is some hopeful news: Calm winds are predicted for this weekend, and the Pacific Northwest could see some much needed rain next week.

Fire Season has been a thing in California longer than humans have been around to call it that. What has made it worse in the past decade or two is Enviros obstructing land management and driving businesses out of California that managed lands as part of their normal operations. The spotted owls "saved" in the 80s and 90s that weren't chopped up by windmills or fried by solar panels got incinerated by Enviro-obstructed forest manglement.

I just had a thought. This goober had it right,but backwards. The large number of large fires burning for so long is going to cause climate changes.
I ain't no gynometorcolologinist or nutting,but all those clouds and all that heat,with the winds it generates,HAS to have some effect on the weather this winter.

Man arrested, charged with arson in connection with southern Oregon fire

A Southern Oregon man is accused of arson in connection with a fire that has caused major damage to several towns in Jackson County.
Michael Jarrod Bakkela, 41, has arrested on two counts of arson, 15 counts of criminal mischief and 14 counts of reckless endangerment.
The fire Bakkela set is considered to be one of two origins of the Almeda fire, said Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office spokesman Rich Tyler. The two fires quickly merged, Tyler said.

El Dorado Fire, Caused by Gender Reveal Party, Burns 13,592 Acres

The El Dorado Fire burning in the Yucaipa area has charred 13,592 acres and was 31% contained as of Thursday night.
The blaze was caused by a smoke device that ignited brush during a gender-reveal family photo shoot Saturday morning at Yucaipa's El Dorado Ranch Park, according to Cal Fire investigators.
The fire has forced evacuations, road closures and a forest closure as it chars the region.
Evacuation orders and warnings were lifted Thursday afternoon for the following areas, according to authorities:

Used to be able to burn off your property/woods with a controlled fire yearly here. Made walking through the woods easier (less underbrush) and made big uncontrollable fire rare. Now they gripe about it here and we are doomed to eventually become a California match too one day.

Trump will visit California on Monday for briefing on devastating wildfires

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will travel to California on Monday for an update on the wildfires that have scorched parts of the state.
Trump will visit McClellan Park in Sacramento County, where he will be briefed by local and federal fire and emergency officials, the White House said Saturday. McClellan Park has served as the base for firefighter operations in the state
The California stop will come on the last day of a three-day presidential swing through the West, which begins Saturday and includes campaign events in Nevada and Arizona.
Since mid-August, Trump and California Gov. Gavin Newsom have spoken by phone, and the White House and Federal Emergency Management Agency have remained in contact with state and local officials throughout the response to the disasters, White House spokesman Judd Deere said.
