Call him “Patient 1â€: An individual in Washington, D.C., who presents with symptoms of mental decline, including a bizarre inability to remember where his own father was born.
Bandy Lee, a psychiatrist on the faculty at the Yale School of Medicine, has some insights to share, which we will get to in a moment.
On Tuesday, at a meeting with the secretary-general of NATO, President Trump launched into an impromptu riff on one of his favorite topics, the reluctance of America’s wealthy European allies to pay more toward their own defense. Then, in what might have been a clumsy effort to show no hard feelings, he expressed his love for Germany, the ancestral home of the Trump (or, originally, Drumpf) family:
“My father is German, right? Was German. And born in a very wonderful place in Germany, so I have a great feeling for Germany.â€
Trump’s father, Frederick, was born in 1905 in the Bronx, approximately 4,000 miles from Germany, as the accompanying map shows. Trump’s grandfather was born in Germany, but was living in the United States with his wife when Frederick was born.
Most people don't understand Trump... probably never met someone like him, or worked with someone like him....
He is like many that are involved with sales and promotion.... (think Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man)...
It isn't about "Lying" or "Truth Telling" for these people... it is about saying whatever pops into your mind at a moment in time.... "what do I need to say?" (or not say) to keep the deal going.... to keep the conversation going in a good direction.... to keep my audience engaged.... to get the other to understand me.... where I am coming from.... to garner their favor in some way (no matter how small)...
When the person, like Trump, believes that they have a "noble" cause (be it getting you to buy this used automobile now, or furthering a national interest) that is all that matters.... there is often very little pre-planning involved, or if there is any, the willingness and ability to just drop the scripts and move into freeform mode at a moment's notice is always there....
Trump may or may not actually remember if his father was born in the US or in Germany.... it doesn't really matter to him one iota.... the point was to enhance his relationship with a prominent European from NATO.... if he felt that mentioning his "German born" father worked in the moment, then there you have it....
It is really pretty simple if you understand this mode of operating.... nothing really sinister about it.... no "mental illness" involved.... He is a sales and promotion man at heart.... the kind of thing that some people are born with..... or not...
Sounds just like a liberal........ not what's real, but how you feel at the moment.--------------------------------------

Wow. This is a nasty rant. You'd think that the President shot Mr. Adler's dog.
Bandy Lee has been peddling these claims for years. No one else has backed Lee up on this.
They said the same thing about Barry Goldwater in '64 when he was running for prez. I believe a group of shrinks got together and declared in all earnest that Barry was crazy. In reality, Goldwater was probably one of the sanest people in the country, and most certainly the sanest politician.
The truth is if you oppose any element of liberalism, you are suspected of being crazy.
It's like in the old Soviet Union. Dissidents were many times sent to mental institutions. If they didn't recant, then they were sent to prison. Which is what liberals would like to do all people who don't vote for Democrats.
The Goldwater rule is the informal name given to section 7 in the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Principles of Medical Ethics,[1] which states that it is unethical for psychiatrists to give a professional opinion about public figures whom they have not examined in person, and from whom they have not obtained consent to discuss their mental health in public statements.[2] It is named after former US Senator and 1964 presidential candidate Barry Goldwater.[3][4]...

And, in fact, that caused the "Goldwater Rule":
Which they now violate with gusto.
And, that tells you everything you need to know about Bandy Lee.

Do you know if she got her Liscence up to date?
Or is she She STILL diagnosing from long distance without a licence?
License or not, diagnosing "patients" without face-to-face interviews is improper, but that rule has been cast aside with aplomb in the case of one Donald trump. Lots and lots of "analysts" delight in making that call.@Cyber Liberty
IOW, it's not much of a rule.
My wife is a insurance biller and it has turned out that the majority of her clients are psychiatrists and psychologists( of whom I have a lot of contact) and the rule, not the exception, is that they are really mentally screwed up. I have no confidence in any of them that would make a public diagnosis on the basis of tweets and comments..........of anyone! We loved watching them as undergrads while they were taking Abnormal Psychology. You could tell what chapter they were on by the way they were acting. There were a few exceptions, but the most often heard reason for someone taking up a Psych major was that they wanted to get their own head straight.
I've got my own criticisms of Trump, but it has nothing to do with me thinking he's crazy. They have been taught by the raft of PhDs who graduated (finally) after milking their draft deferments in the 60s. There were a few of them still around finishing their BAs when I was in college, doing the Timothy Leary thing and playing at being gurus to get laid.
Does anyone doubt that if Trump was a leftist, these shrinks would not be making this kind of diagnosis? Are they also criticizing Beetle-brain O'Rourke, AOC,or any other liberal pols for the nutty things they say?
Trump too often speaks before he thinks which is not good. But his overall intent is to keep the country safe and maintain the traditions that made the U.S. great.
Like I said, I don't agree with a number of his policies/actions, but they're decidedly 180 degrees different from what most of the far left Dem candidates for prez are spouting. Shrinks aren't calling them insane....for obvious reasons. Most shrinks are probably leftists.
@Cyber Liberty
The Goldwater rule applies only to Psychiatrists and does not apply to them if public safety is considered threatened. The book mentioned, "The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump" is authored by 27 Psychiatrists and mental health workers and immediately in the front of the book, they explain they wrote it for the safety of the country. People should not knock it without knowing what is in it. Psychological methods are always considered "wrong" by some people who know nothing about the profession.
Mental health workers cannot talk about what someone says in therapy, EXCEPT, if the patient says something that means the patient could hurt him/herself or others, the mental health workers are required to inform law enforcement. I always told my patients that at their first visit.

So he said father when he meant grandfather.
Obviously that means he's crazy right? /s
Yup! They really got 'im now! Why? Was his grandfather Russian?
Why? Was his grandfather Russian?
German, Russian...what's the difference? 333cleoSentence structure and alphabet...Liebfraumilch and Schnaps vs Vodka...Schnitzel vs Borscht, Oktoberfest vs Oktober Revolution, and I don't think the Muslim Invasion of Russia proper will be exactly welcomed with open arms.

It's not from a lack of trying. Russians have their Chechens, China have their Uighurs. Both have decided if they can't tame them then they will simply kill them all. Both understand what is at stake. Both have the will to stop the problem before it gets unmanageable.

Of Course. The Diagnosis which eventually passes as a show of hands as Correct have no more scirence behind them either. As is true with so much they claim. Well said!
All they need is accusation couched in scientistic gobbleydegook and a room full of thin air and nodding heads.
