Finding the Facts won’t matter for Ferguson: After a hostile weekend of protesting (that progressively turns into rioting and assault), Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has called National Guard troops to Ferguson.
“Given these deliberate, coordinated and intensifying violent attacks on lives and property in Ferguson, I am directing the highly capable men and women of the Missouri National Guard … in restoring peace and order to this community,” he said in a statement.
Gunfire, tear gas and Molotov cocktails Sunday night marked some of the fiercest clashes yet between police and protesters furious about the death of an unarmed teenager, CNN reports.
Eric Holder’s Justice Dept. plans a rare third autopsy of Michael Brown because of the “extraordinary nature of the case.”
A private autopsy requested by the family showed Brown was struck at least six times, including a fatal shot to the skull, Anthony Gray, an attorney for Brown’s family, said Sunday night.
All bullets entered the front of his body; two shots hit Brown’s head and four hit his right arm, according to a report by the New York Times.
According to the Times, Dr. Michael M. Baden, who conducted the autopsy, said: “This one here looks like his head was bent downward,” indicating the wound at the very top of Brown’s head. “It can be because he’s giving up, or because he’s charging forward at the officer.”
Dr. Baden’s findings contradict witness statements that the officer shot Brown from behind, and could lend credence to the officer’s claim that Brown came at him and he shot in self-defense. But Dr. Baden also expressed concern over the number of shots fired at Brown saying six shots might be “excessive:”
“There is legitimate concern as to whether the shooting was overreacting. That has to be answered and we don’t have all the answers,” said Baden.
Answers before reacting? I’m afraid it’s a bit late for that. Regrettably, finding the facts likely won’t matter for Ferguson now.
Regardless of the truth, the story of Mike Brown and the police reaction in Ferguson have become a symbol of the mutual distrust between the American public and their public defenders. The people believe the police see as all as criminals, some of us choosing to become criminals in response. Which confirms and heightens the use of police force against us all.
It’s a fundamental societal breakdown that the DOJ’s investigation cannot resolve or pacify. Prediction: They will try to split blame on both sides, saying that Brown was resisting (officer justified in defense) but that he didn’t deserve to be killed (excessive force, Brown defended). But this problem will take far more than a few sensitivity courses to patch up.
Texas Libs push Rick Perry for 2016: On Friday, a grand jury served an indictment against Gov. Rick Perry in connection with an effort to force Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign. Travis County is home to Austin, the last oasis of the Texas liberal. And this case may be their attempt at an Alamo.
The details of the case show a clear political motivation for going after Perry: Lehmberg was convicted on drunk-driving charges and yet refused to resign her position as head of the Public Integrity Unit (hypocrisy noted). Perry said, if she didn’t resign, he’d veto $7.5 million in state funding to the unit. She didn’t, so he did.
Now, a grand jury’s been called to decide if Perry broke the law when he threatened to veto the funding. He’s been indicted on two felonies, abuse of official capacity and coercion of public servant.
Yes, a governor demanding integrity in the head of the Public Integrity Unit is considered a felony. But what the liberals fail to realize is that attacking Gov. Perry for actually using his executive power to lead will only make his star shine brighter in the 2016 field.
They’ve suddenly forced this question on the national public: who should we stand with? An official who gets drunk as a skunk, wreaks havoc on the roadway, and doesn’t have enough shame/sense to step down? Or an official who, faced with such a scoundrel in office, refuses to make the People pay her salary and fires her? Through their ire, Texas liberals have essentially endorsed Rick Perry for the GOP nomination for 2016…an endorsement more effective on the grassroots than any ad money could buy.
Where Obama Wasn’t: Obama’s mantra…the vacation must go on. Come riots, come ISIS, come whatever may, the vacation must go on. And another inconvenience Obama took to the golf course in Martha’s Vineyard to ignore- the death of the highest ranking officer killed in combat since Vietnam.
U.S. Army Major General Harold Greene was buried Friday at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, NBC reports.
General Greene, 55, became the highest-ranking fatality in the war in Afghanistan after an Afghan military police officer opened fire on Aug. 5th, 2014.
U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno presented the flag to his widow, and additional flags to his children and father.
But the Commander-in-Chief was in attendance. Neither was VP Joe Biden (though Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel did attend the funeral). Missing the funeral of a two-star general to work on your golf game, Mr. Obama? Priorities…you’ve got them all wrong.
Huckabee stands up to ISIS: President Obama’s lack of leadership continues to provide ample opportunity for leadership from other places. His continued bungling of ISIS and Iraq prompted former governor Mike Huckabee to stand in the gap…in no uncertain terms.
“These are tough times where people are being slaughtered like sheep. And you need a shepherd to stop the wolf,” Huckabee said on FOX News’“Outnumbered” Friday.
Huckabee said that ISIS is a cancer that needs to be cut out.
“We’re either going to kill the cancer, or the cancer is going to kill us,” he said. “We better make the decision who dies: ISIS or freedom?”
Great question, sir. Next question: “How do we kill the cancer without killing the patient (freedom)?” And the person with the best answer to that will be our next president.
CAIR loves Al Sharpton: At a time when racial tensions are open and vicious, the world looks for voices of reason and peace to call above the fray and lead us to reconciliation. One of those voices we should not heed? Pretended-Rev. Al Sharpton, who’s the favorite of radical Islamists.
CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced that “civil rights leader and MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton” will be honored at their 20th annual banquet in September.
It’s not the first time CAIR’s honored Sharpton (as TruthRevolt reports):
In 2012, Sharpton spoke at the event and referred to CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator with Hamas in the HolyLand Foundcation case, as “one of the most important civil rights organization in the United States today.”
One CAIR leader announced that they are “defenders of the Palestinian struggle.” The organization failed to condemn Hamas, instead opting to deride Israel to no end.
One knows a man’s character by the company he keeps. And he who sides with radical Islam in the name of “civil rights” has no interest in protecting rights or making peace…but in merely making money off the chaos.
