Bernie Sanders downplays socialist label on campaign trail

Despite signs of growing support for socialism among young Democratic primary voters, America’s most famous socialist doesn’t want to dwell on the ideology.

Instead, Bernie Sanders prefers to focus on the individual populist measures that make up his platform.

“It’s a long discussion, but all I would say is virtually all of the initiatives we are supporting are supported by a majority of the American people,” said Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont who has long styled himself a "democratic socialist." “So you can call them whatever you want, and of course programs like Social Security, and Medicare, and the Veterans Administration have been attacked as being quote-unquote socialist.”

If what Sanders claims to be true were true, he would be president right now.

Sanders is a communist, and uses the democratic socialist for semantics.  It's like Obama claiming to be a practicing Christian, yet every time he referred to his religion, he was referring to islam.  Both know the truth gets them shot down in politics, so it is all smoke and mirrors for men like these two phonies.

Sanders is a millionaire, and decries the wealthy in America.  I think perhaps the best word for Sanders is hypocrite.

"Hypocrite", that describes a lot of liberals.

Communism is still a major threat to the USA.  Everyone thinks because Russia has elections that it is no longer communist.  Fact is, through major parts of Russia the communists are still in control.  I have traveled there three times, and believe me, I still consider them the single greatest threat to the USA.

We should shun anyone that is communist or remotely like that.  Sanders is a threat to the security of the USA.

What Bernie Sanders Missed on His Soviet Honeymoon
May 10th, 2019
Lee Edwards
Quote
Bernie Sanders and I have little in common, given his passionate commitment to “democratic” socialism and my firm belief in individual freedom. But we do share one thing: We both visited Moscow in 1988, albeit for differing reasons.

Sanders was on what he called “a very strange honeymoon” with his bride Jane. I was traveling in the Soviet Union with a delegation of Western journalists and opinion leaders.

According to The Washington Post, Sanders, then 46, had a wonderful time combining business and pleasure as the socialist mayor of Burlington, Vermont, met “ordinary people” from everyday walks of life (carefully selected by the Communist Party, you may be sure).  ...

Although visiting for only 10 days, Sanders found things that he liked, including the housing, which cost only 5% of a Russian’s income instead of the 40% in the United States. He was obviously unable to visit, as I did, a cramped Moscow apartment of two small rooms occupied by a family of five. ...

What else did Sanders miss on his honeymoon in Moscow?

A visit to GUM, the gigantic department store fronting Red Square. When I visited, I saw desperate shoppers roaming the aisles like hungry wolves looking for hats, gloves, and coats. Dozens of women lined up to buy a pair of boots, which, if they didn’t fit, they would exchange with one other on the sidewalk.

Clearly, Sanders did not have the opportunity, as I did, to visit an official government “grocery” store empty of goods, save for dozens of unlabeled cans ignored by shoppers and a few withered yellowish chickens that even a starving man would have rejected. ...

I had a teacher in high school that visited the Soviet Union in the early  70s as part of a group. He described his visit to a Soviet supermarket as people lining up and getting  their approved rations of food. There were guards that had AK-47s that were roaming the upper levels watching the people below. They could not go anywhere without their guide.  If the supermarket ran out of bread, for example,  you were out of luck no matter what amount of rations the government approved for your family

Bernie Sanders And those who follow him are clearly a threat to our standard of living and should be treated as such

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that someone who admits being a socialist/communist is even running in this country.  Of course, the Dems feel that way...but they usually cloak it flowery language.

I visited Budapest, Hungary, in 1987 or so with a few friends. We went into a store and found almost nothing on the shelves. Ain't communism grand!

Yep.  My brother brought a couple of his friends to my house one day.  They were from one of the Eastern Block countries.  The thing they kept talking about was the grocery stores and lack of lines.

Lack of lines...Really???  I guess it's all relative.

I went to Prague in 2006.  It was like walking through a forest a year after a major forest fire as life is just starting to take hold again.
