Harris shrugs off post-Detroit debate poll dip
Washington Examiner, Aug 10, 2019

Kamala Harris thinks she has time to make up the ground she lost in the polls after the Detroit debates.

The senator for California and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate experienced a surge in support and donor contributions after she confronted former Vice President Joe Biden during the Miami series, but she has dipped in public opinion following rivals like Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard taking her to task for her prosecutorial record and "Medicare for all" in Detroit.

“First of all, I love being in Iowa, and each time I come, I really do gain a lot, gain a lot of perspective from it, and there's certainly momentum in our campaign,” Harris told reporters Saturday morning at the Iowa State Fair.

“We have over 65 staff in Iowa. We've been staffing up for a period of time, and there are people in this race who have had national profiles for many years. I'm still introducing myself to people, and it will be a process, and with each step that we take, we are gaining ground and building momentum,” she said.

Harris also told reporters that she agreed with her opponents who have already called on Walmart to stop selling guns after the mass shooting at an El Paso, Texas, store by a white supremacist last weekend. However, she said she had issues with repeated questions from the press about whether she thinks President Trump is a white nationalist.
