Title: The greatest concert of all time (Beethoven concert of 22 December 1808)
Post by: Machiavelli on December 23, 2018, 01:21:58 am
Today is the 210th anniversary of the greatest concert of all time.

Beethoven concert of 22 December 1808 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beethoven_concert_of_22_December_1808)

"The Beethoven concert of 22 December 1808 was a benefit concert held for Ludwig van Beethoven at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna that featured the public premieres of Beethoven's Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, the Fourth Piano Concerto and the Choral Fantasy."

H/T to my friend Matthew B. Tepper for calling attention to this. (https://www.facebook.com/classicalduck/posts/10156067039628932)

For me, and I've seen the Stones and ZZTOP multiple times, meh.

It would be a tossup between these two guys.

Hmm...............................
Actually Music hasn't been created since the Baroque Era ended.
Those sounds you hear are noise needy of attention.

Those are great choices, but the best ever was Humble Pie.  Amazing show.  And, ZZ Top.  Or, David Bowie.

I wish I had seen Rory Gallagher too.

I don't know about the best of all time, but the best I ever saw was the night I got an unexpected jolt when my summer camp took us to see the Who and Jefferson Airplane in the summer of 1969 at Tanglewood in Massachussetts, a week before the Woodstock festival.

The jolt was the opening act . . . a gentleman named B.B. King. Five notes out of him and I was a goner. I couldn't wait to get home from camp, get my hands on the cheap little electric guitar my maternal grandma bought me for my previous birthday, and start teaching myself to play seriously.

I saw Albert King and Robert Cray in a dive in Austin back in the early 2000's I believe, I still shiver at the talent (right before King died) and of course I was stoned (had a Hotel room on the lake).  Lots of great shows in Austin back then, now it's all $hit.

I got to see B.B. about 10 years ago, on Auditorium Shores in Austin.  Fantastic.

I never went to a concert, so I can't really say what artist
gives a best in show. I am going to take your Beethoven
word for it because no recording of concerts before 1900 exist.
