Pete Buttigieg officially announces 2020 presidential bid
By  Daniel Uria

April 14 (UPI) -- Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind., officially announced his presidential bid on Sunday afternoon.

Buttigieg addressed a capacity crowd at Studebaker Building 84, a former car factory in downtown South Bend that has been converted into hub for tech startups, where he outlined his campaign messages centered around the three pillars of security, democracy and freedom.

"My name is Pete Buttigieg. They call me Mayor Pete. I am a proud son of South Bend, Indiana and I'm running for president of the United States," he said. "I recognize the audacity of doing this as a Midwestern millennial mayor. More than a little bold -- at age 37 to seek the highest office in the land."

Just one more clown in the overcrowded clown car.

HRC jumps in within one month of Biden announcing, or she announces in the Fall.  Either way, clowns like Buttigieg fall fast by the wayside.

I heard him speak; excellent delivery.  Look up Pete Buttigieg on Wikipedia.  He has terrific history and accomplishments.  Trump could not match him on education accomplishments and military experience.  Pete could win if not gay and could win because of being gay.

@Victoria33

He would not even be able to win a Statewide office in Deep Red, pretty deep red Indiana.  I think they rarely vote D in the Hoosier state, though, they might have for Obama in 2008. That was a bad year for Republicans.

This really is why Buttigieg is going this way. Indiana is very Republican. He would have a hard time running for Prez as Senator Buttigieg from Indiana.  Governor and probably barely as a Rep from there unless, you are running in urban Indianapolis.

And maybe a "college town" elects some guy who makes his sexual orientation known. I don't know. I'd hope ND could be better than that.

Seems like mayor Pete doesn't believe in the Constitution. That qualifies him to run as a democommie.

In a way, I can see how Pete might have a bit of charisma and attract some segments of the population. I can see that,  he's probably better as far as I see, than Kamala Harris, who I don't care for a bit. Also, he may think he has something to offer the public, this can be a stepping stone. If a Dem were elected president, they could probably find some cabinet job for him.

Or he could lose.  I don't see him breaking through the Primaries.  Being gay makes no difference to me.

Secret tapes linger over Buttigieg's meteoric rise
By Jonathan Easley - 04/15/19 06:00 AM EDT

Pete Buttigieg’s meteoric rise as a presidential candidate is putting a spotlight on his years as mayor of South Bend, Ind., including his demotion of an African American police chief.

An Indiana judge will rule soon on whether to release five cassette tapes of secretly recorded conversations between South Bend police officers that led to the 2012 demotion of Police Chief Darryl Boykins, the city’s first ever black police chief. ...

Buttigieg’s critics say he’s gone to great lengths to conceal the contents of the tapes, which some believe could include racist language by white police officers.   ... austingirl, about Pete B. saying, “We can’t say it’s much of a democracy when twice in my lifetime the Electoral College has overruled the American people,..."
Trump also wants to do away with the Electoral College, at least he did before he won. He wants whatever makes him win; he cares nothing about the constitution; it is a hindrance to him if it limits his power.

Some here will say I "love" Pete.  I am stating facts; the truth about your opposition is the first step to winning over him/her.

This Pete guy has crammed so much into his 37 years on this earth - all of it one success after another.  His mother and father were Ph.D. professors.  People should read about Pete on Wikipedia so they know what Trump is up against.  Trump will not win a debate with Pete.  When you get a chance to hear Pete, you will see how "cool" he is.  When you listen to him/see his demeanor while talking, erase your political beliefs.  Evaluate him as though you are a liberal; think in terms of Independent voters and Democrat voters - how they will relate to him.

Upon graduating from Harvard in 2005, Buttigieg was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and in 2007 he received first-class honors in philosophy, politics and economics from Pembroke College, Oxford.

Look at the languages he has mastered. Look at his master of guitar and piano:
Buttigieg is a polyglot. He taught himself to speak Norwegian and is also conversational in Spanish, Italian, Maltese, Arabic, Farsi, and French.  Buttigieg plays guitar and piano, and in 2013 performed with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra as a guest piano soloist.

Look at his military record (Trump claimed heel bone spurs to stay out of war)
Buttigieg was commissioned as a naval intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve in 2009, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2014. After a seven-month deployment, Buttigieg returned to South Bend.  He remained a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve until 2017.

Here is Trump's problem with Pete.  Trump cannot attack him/make fun of him/give him a tacky name.  I'm sure Trump can't even pronounce Pete's last name.  Trump will try to use Pete's last name to embarrass him, but the embarrassment will be Trump's for not being able to pronounce Pete's last name.

Trump can't attack Pete's military service because Trump faked heel bone spurs and didn't serve.

Trump can't say he is smarter than Pete because Pete has his smarts on paper, the various awards he got for putting his high intelligence to good works.

The only thing Trump could use to attack Pete, is, he is gay however, Trump wants the gay vote, too.  If Trump made fun of Pete's sexual orientation, those gays who now support Trump, will leave him and vote for Pete.

There are many Democrats running for president; Pete is going to move up the line to the front.

Jobs created?

That's a good resume. It's really not one though, that shows someone has run government, has achieved in government. About creating a favorable economy where jobs are created, in fact, he'll probably go with now, what are Democratic staples like global warming and gun control.

And Buttigieg is a big pro-choicer. He isn't going to win Indiana Senator so why think he's going to win the US Presidency?

@Victoria33

You are just reading from a bio,

"... , and in 2013 performed with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra as a guest piano soloist."

This is like being a good debater or being a top graduate of one's class. That's good but it's not really the kind of stuff that generally makes or breaks a campaign. It's almost humorous to list things like this as accomplishments.

If he had accomplishments like jobs created, believe me, we'd hear about that and not about speaking 5 different languages and at that, how good does he speak them?

One could make the case, he's parlaying minority status into this run.

austingirl, you said,  "I find nothing in a democommie to admire."
This is not a post to admire Pete.  It is an attempt to know about Pete and what his placement might be in the Democrat candidate list.

Tom, you said it was a good resume, but "It's really not one though, that shows someone has run government, has achieved in government. About creating a favorable economy where jobs are created.."

@TomSea , he also has experience in government office with good outcomes:
"Buttigieg was first elected mayor of South Bend in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. During his time as mayor of South Bend, Buttigieg's policies were widely credited with spurring economic growth and business investment. In 2013 he won GovFresh's Mayor of the Year award."

So, Trump can't say he has done nothing in government.

Maybe Pete will go down since he is gay; it is up to Independents who decide who becomes president.  Historically, Dems are "some less" than 50% of voters across the nation, Republicans are "some less" than 50% of voters across the nation. It is Independents who make up the "some less" category and who gets their support, has historically won.

I think Pete is just playing up his victim hood status. He's won something with yougov , a good rating?

What's so much more special about Pete than mayors of other cities that size? Muncie, Indiana or how about Redondo Beach California or Iowa City, Iowa?  Gulf Port, Mississippi.

The only reason we know about this guy is probably because he is gay.

What has Trump done? I'm not going to go by "yougov", that might even be internet polling.

Your former governor of TX started a war in Iraq that has heavily threatened the very existence of Christianity that's been there for 2000 years in Iraq and Syria. He's not to be solely blamed but I do believe he and Obama even moreso, do have some responsibility.  Trump's done nothing like that, maybe open your eyes for a change. Trump's management of the war over there has brought it into a great decline. Has Pete done this?

I hate mentioning divisive things but you actually force others into it by being derisive of the president.

Pete sopped the North Koreans from firing missiles?  Nope again.

Pete on record as having the lowest unemployment rates of African Americans? Not on a nationwide basis.

So, again, like other Anti-Trumpers you make statements but they often don't have a foundation.

Pete cut off funds from planned parenthood? Assuredly, Pete is for planned parenthood but Trump has cutt off such funds.

And again, if this guy wasn't gay, would we know him from the mayor of Spokane Washington? Chandler Arizona?  Bakersfield California? Ann Arbor Michigan? He's playing his minority status up for political gain.  You've got mayors all across the US.

Thanks, Jazzhead. You are evaluating facts, not getting stuck in the mud by defending another candidate, come hell or high water.  Pete's smarts, proven by his record, should allow him to shine in a debate. Mayor Pete does not get to first base.  American courts may well debase the act of marriage, and recognize the LGBQT community as a discriminated entity, but the vast majority of American voters will not elect someone from those ranks to be POTUS.  Mayor of a small city is one thing, POTUS is another.  Not going to happen in my lifetime, you can count on it.

Some more facts, North Korea has not fired off missiles in a year.  Again, thank Trump's predecessors for that.  That's talking about nuclear war. If you want to say Pete Buttigieg's accomplishments are bigger than that. Have at it.

But Pete's accomplishments in speaking 5 languages or playing piano are greater accomplishments. Got it.  A bigger accomplishment than giving blacks and all time low rate of unemployment is another one.

And the guy is an abortion nut, probably backing up the Democrats late term abortion forays, some say even infanticide. Got it.

You hate Trump so much, you want to be blind to the truth.  Well, he didn't put Christians in a lurch like ya'll's Texas governor and that is pretty easy to find as true with any research.

@Victoria33  is not expressing hatred of Trump.  She is pointing out that Pete Buttgeig is a rival to be taken seriously.   He is expressing a unique perspective, at least so far, in this race -  he is speaking of reconciliation, and the bridging of differences, in the context of shared values.   I feel that if I were to speak to him,  he'd listen to me.   Not that I'd persuade him- no doubt he's a progressive and a partisan - but there could be a dialogue.   Not like a hardcase like Kamala Harris.    She wants to kill me and my kind.    She's a tribalist,  same as Trump.  Buttigieg will catch more flies with honey.   And that is why he is the Dem candidates that some of us recognize may pose the biggest threat to Trump

He has done nothing, he's running as a homosexual; as an oppressed minority. He hasn't prevented potential nuclear war like Trump has, he hasn't stopped the persecution of Christians like Trump has, in general statements. The guy is in an infertile relationship, can't produce babies but other abortion nuts will talk him up.

JH probably doesn't like Trump because he's big with Evangelicals whom he apparently despises.

Compared to mayors, Columbia South Carolina, Peoria Illinois, Tyler Texas... I doubt if he has distinguished himself.

I would not vote for ANY openly homosexual politician, Republican or otherwise. Male or female, makes no difference.

Won't be gettin' any love from me!
Same here. I get the distinct impression they'd be representing (first, last, always, and disproportionately) that 1-2% at the expense of everyone else.

Certainly/hopefully none here would vote for Pete B.  He would base his govn./our govn. in these United States on homosexuals' wants/what he thinks they need.  He would do this for all minorities in order to make every minority "feel good".  The facts below add to an understanding of how smart he is.  Smarts matter.

One can estimate IQ based on years of behavior.  When I did evaluations for Social Security Disability payments, whether they got it or not, I was required to estimate the person's intelligence before the disability happened.  I estimated IQ based on their previous jobs and their extra curricular activities.  (I also tested them then to get a valid IQ number at that present time.)  Pete B's accomplishments tell me he is extremely bright.  The fact he knows so many languages and plays piano to the extent he can solo with a symphony orchestra, are facts that add to his intelligence score.  That is why it is important to know these facts to help determine what his abilities are.

He is definitely smarter than Trump.  Pete's knowledge of the English language, his delivery of words, would hurt Trump in a debate. Pete B would be/likely is now, up on every aspect of federal government.

Saw on TV today, Tuesday, Pete said the Democrat party can't revolve around Trump's personality.  He said Democrats need to call out Trump then quickly move on to their message.  About getting blacks on their side, he said, "We have our work cut out for us."

I saw yesterday, Pete is third now behind Biden/Sanders.  Will he pass them?

Gay Is the New Black: The Buttigieg Candidacy
By D. C. McAllister January 24, 2019

We need to talk about Pete Buttigieg and why his candidacy for president in the age of identity politics is negatively disruptive — though this certainly doesn’t mean he shouldn’t run. He’s the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and the first openly gay candidate to run for president. It’s not a comfortable discussion. I’ll be called a homophobe for having it. But it’s necessary, so let’s dive right in.

The politics of the Democratic Party is driven by an ideology that pits one group against another. Blacks against whites. Gays against straights. Women against men. Political agendas and views are often put in that frame. We saw the consequences of this during Barack Obama’s reign as the first black president. If you criticized him, you were called a racist. Almost all statements and judgments regarding his policies and performance were filtered through the lens of identity politics.

This was true with the candidacy of Hillary Clinton as well. Democrats tried to put any criticism of her agenda in that context. Women who opposed her were called traitors to their sex. Men who refused to vote for her were inevitably called misogynists who didn’t want a female president. ...

My criticism here is not of Buttigieg or his sexual orientation. I’m not opposed to having a gay president — his sex life doesn’t matter to me. His policies do. When I say that the last thing our country needs in an age of identity politics is a president whose stand-out characteristic as generated by the media is that he’s gay, I’m focusing on a cultural problem, not a problem with the candidate.  ...

This is not what I (and, I believe, @Victoria33) are saying.    I know full well Buttigieg is progressive.   But he frames himself in a context of inclusiveness and shared values - unlike any of the other Dem candidates.   That makes him a potentially formidable opponent,  because Trump is his polar opposite.   Trump is as enraptured with identity politics and the tribal message of "us vs. them" as most of the Dems are.

For that reason, I think he has a chance to win the Dem nomination.

Yes, in a way he is less radical, but he announced that he and his husband want to have a baby.  I'm not so sure how that will play out, though it may be seen as political correct and an "aw" moment.

Yes, in a way he is less radical, but he announced that he and his husband want to have a baby.  I'm not so sure how that will play out, though it may be seen as political correct and an "aw" moment.

It all depends on how socially radical the Dem base (those voting in the primaries) is relative to the rest of the population.

Under a certain age, homosexuality is no big deal.  They've been successfully brainwashed.  So that might not matter.

I see him as another token candidate, BUT he is certainly articulate and intelligent, and a certain person we all know, but are not permitted to criticize, continues with his word salad gobbledygook.

If they are looking for a contrast in that to him, Pete will do well.  If they are looking for a moral contrast, well, there isn't much of one.

It appears he will not be going down the radical socialist road, so he may have that in his favor too.

Again, it all depends on the Dem primary voters.  I think he has a chance to beat the crazies.

And in truth, I don't think any of the leftist nutcases have a chance to beat the incumbent.  Unless he is primaried, we're stuck for another four years.

Pete Buttigieg's father was a Marxist professor who lauded the Communist Manifesto
by Emily Larsen
 & Joseph Simonson
 | April 02, 2019 12:02 AM

The father of Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg was a Marxist professor who spoke fondly of the Communist Manifesto and dedicated a significant portion of his academic career to the work of Italian Communist Party founder Antonio Gramsci, an associate of Vladimir Lenin.

Joseph Buttigieg, who died in January at the age of 71, immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s from Malta and in 1980 joined the University of Notre Dame faculty, where he taught modern European literature and literary theory. He supported an updated version of Marxism that jettisoned some of Marx and Engel's more doctrinaire theories, though he was undoubtedly Marxist.

He was an adviser to Rethinking Marxism, an academic journal that published articles “that seek to discuss, elaborate, and/or extend Marxian theory,” and a member of the editorial collective of Boundary 2, a journal of postmodern theory, literature, and culture. He spoke at many Rethinking Marxism conferences and other gatherings of prominent Marxists.   ... Indeed.

And there are many who will see him only as he presents himself to be, and be proud of voting for the first homosexual candidate for President, just like they did with Obama and his being black.

They won't know or care if he's a Marxist, pro-abortion or anything else. (Or if his ancestors were slave traders).

One thing we know we can count on with the left (and unfortunately too many on the right) is that they are abjectly ignorant, and that the facts don't matter.

That's not the discussion they were having.  @Victoria33  clearly said that no one here would vote for him.

The question is whether or not he can win the Democrat nomination.

And I think, because he presents himself as more moderate than the gaggle of socialists he'll be running against, and because he IS intelligent, he has a good chance of getting the nomination.

(Depending, as I said earlier, on whether or not the Dem primary voters are as daft as the majority of their candidates).

I think he has a decent chance too.  As long as he can keep his radicalism under wraps.   That he is soft spoken in the age of Trump is a plus for many.  Probably won't earn him one TBR vote.  If he won he would be every bit as bad as Obama, right down to the weaponization of the instruments of the Executive office, to the delighted squee of the damned press.  We'll be finished as a country.

Sadly, I put little faith in the GOP. They have collectively managed to drop the ball instead of moving it downfield in the right direction more times than I can count. They have squandered opportunity after opportunity, despite being elected expressly over Conservative issues (the TEA party class, for instance), and like idiots try to negotiate starting with what they want, not well past that and end up giving ground every time.

I would love to see a return to our Constitution in Government, but neither major Party is interested in that.

Which is precisely how The Left wants it.

Which is some of the reason, why I give Trump a pass.    Why would he give up the life he had, with all the wealth and fame, to take the arrows which have come his way?   I know I wouldn't.

True,  and it's also hindering the Trump administration in its search to find candidates to serve in Cabinet positions and elsewhere in the Federal bureaucracy.    Years of delays,  document requests and other anal probing are effectively keeping the "best people" from serving.   The swamp can't be drained because,  two years into his presidency,  Trump can't get many of his people in.

An Indiana judge will rule soon on whether to release five cassette tapes of secretly recorded conversations between South Bend police officers that led to the 2012 demotion of Police Chief Darryl Boykins, the city’s first ever black police chief. ...

Buttigieg’s critics say he’s gone to great lengths to conceal the contents of the tapes, which some believe could include racist language by white police officers.   ... Story at The Hill (https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/438669-secret-tapes-linger-over-buttigiegs-meteoric-rise#.XLRs59xsZ6Y.twitter)

@mountaineer

Anybody taking any bets on how much longer blacks are going to be "The Master Race" in America?

I'm saying MAYBE they have another 8 or 10 years left in control, but I am guessing less than 6 years before the His and Her Panics take over. Things may not go well for the blacks after that happens.

Trump has made it much more difficult with his mercurial leadership style. Why would anyone want to be considered for a job that will likely end six months after you're hired?

Sorry, I'm just not into that fealty thing, where my boss demands and expects unwavering, unquestioning loyalty.

PLEASE!  Your hatred for Trump is showing through. The guy was a intelligence officer in the freaking Navy. He would have heard more gunfire if he had been stationed in DC.

Claiming he is a "war veteran" is like claiming Bo Biden is a war veteran because he was a JAG officer in a rear base camp in the Muddle East. Even then he probably had armed MP bodyguards following him everywhere he went in camp because of who his father is.

Kinda reminds me of a local geezer who walks around wearing an "Atomic Veterans"  hat because he is a "veteran of the the dawn of the atomic age when we were worried about Russia nuking us." BIG freaking deal. So was my mother, and everyone else alive at that time. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War to avoid being drafted to go fight in the Korean War. I may be wrong, but I have been told he never left the US.

Now,I know that is not as impressive to you as winning a mayor's office in Indiana with the backing of the Dim Party, but most people would think being President is a bigger deal.

BTW,slight correction. Trump was VERY active in state and federal government before being elected president. Mostly due to having to bribe elected officials to get them to approve his building projects.

@Smokin Joe

Ironically enough, the death of the Republican Party is directly related to their biggest accomplishment, taking control over the presidency and congress  back when Newt became Speaker of the House.

Instead of solidifying their hold and standards, they acted like a bunch of drunks at a Christmas Party, and gladly accepted any Dim into their ranks that wanted to switch parties. Not policies or contacts mind you, just party. What they did was stab every Republican in the back they had the opportunity to stab, and they got away with it. The modern Republican Party was destroyed from within when they were right at the  height of their greatest achievements.

And those blind, unthinking fools just sat there and let it happen. Or worse, joined in with  their new "Republican" friends because they were promised committee assignments and other advantages for helping.  They even helped the DNC kick Gingrich out of politics over a "crime" that wasn't quite as serious as shoplifting by a teenager.

3. Admit you were wrong over how he would govern.

5. Admit that alternatives like Weld are ridiculous, along with 3rd party efforts that only serve to fail.

I support Trump when he is right.

As for your little list,

1: He may have won, but I wasn't wrong.
2: I didn't want Hillary to win, that wasn't wrong. I figured Trump would, so handily in my state, that I voted for someone and a Party I could support. Trump got the electoral votes without my help, which he didn't need.
How was I wrong about that?
3: While the jury is still out on that, I have seen my tax deductions go away, ones which are integral to my work. I have seen no wall, the ACA is still largely in effect, and Hillary is at large.
There have been a couple of good things rapidly followed by an administrative assault on the RKBA, more alcohol in fuels, and mobs of judges and lawyers stymieing this administration at every turn, including the GOP. IOW, the swamp is perfectly safe at least for the moment.

I wasn't wrong, I didn't expect much, and I haven't been the least disappointed.

4: The only polls which mean jack are the ones on election day. The rest can be gimmicked a thousand ways from Sunday.

5: 80%? Well, what else are 'Pubbies and Conservatives going to do? Is there an alternative at this point? What disingenuous nonsense.

6: Lest you forget the "GOP" wasn't a major Party at one time, either. Harping on the old saw that you vote D or R or "waste your vote" has been a hugely effective mantra, admittedly, but that can change. As the Major parties coalesce into a group of self-serving globalist totalitarians and it becomes obvious to the rank and file (if we can pry them away from the bread and circuses), perhaps that will change. Either that, or the Republic will be lost, the Constitution a historical footnote, if it is even mentioned, and the economic collapse from making money out of thin air and servicing that debt will be the end of it.
(Why are we borrowing money from bankers when we could simply have monetized the debt through the use of United States Notes, without owing third parties interest?) Better yet, why are spending so much of the legacy of hardworking people and their descendants on things which at best kick the can down the road, and on people who will not fix their problems so long as they are subsidized for having them?

Pete Buttigieg would love to have Phish play at inauguration

Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg didn’t miss a beat when asked if he’d like to have the rock group Phish perform at his theoretical inaugural ball.

“If you could get Phish to do an inauguration, that would be something,” the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana, told a reporter for TMZ in the Big Apple on Thursday.

“Well, it’s worth a shot. Maybe we should ask them,” he added. “That’s a fun one to think about.”  ...

I won't vote for Trump in the primary.  Will vote for an acceptable Republican running against him if that happens.  In the general election, will leave President's box empty if it is his name.  I won't vote for a Democrat.  Being in Texas, the Republican usually wins.  The only Democrats in state office in Texas are a few judges.

I doubt we'll see an "acceptable" Republican in the primary against Trump, because Ted will be sitting this one out.

The priority for me is to flip back those state house seats that flipped during the midterms. Beto will not be on the ballot to energize Democrats this time around. Democrats running for President will have to outdo each other with their liberal ideas, which will backfire in this more conservative state.

Millenials here are reaping the benefits of the strong economy in Texas, and won't fall for the AOCs and Bernies of the Democrats.

I'm on the fence regarding voting for Trump. I won't rule it out, if only because he has a year and a half remaining to get something done on border security.

The Buttigieg's are the Amos and Andy of the LGBTQC+ world. They will go to a breeder to get a custom-designed gayby, tweet about the latest diets and exercises, talk about their biggest quarrels (what shows to watch), expound on the virtues of being judgment-free while trashing Pence and invite us into their hunt for a new "family" vehicle.

@Victoria33   You have done nothing but show yourself to be speaking for leftist causes.  Simple as that again. Not really the image one would generally wish to project in this forum and it may well make one irrelevant. If we wanted to read the Democratic Underground, we could go there.

1. You said I was, "speaking for leftist causes."

1. Answer: I spoke of the man, Pete B's background.  I do that, look at previous years and present actions for any candidate I want to know about, regardless of party. That is my own "opposition research".

2. You said, "You have done nothing but show yourself to be speaking for leftist causes. Not really the image one would generally wish to project in this forum and it may well make one irrelevant."

If I am "irrelevant" on the forum, I am sure the other two I pinged to this post will tell me to leave and/or they will jerk my credentials out of the safe, pick up my coffee cup and my wine glass, and dump all of them in the trash.

Buttgay is superficially attractive.  Acknowledging that doesn't = support.  The sad truth is that a large percentage of voters don't go beyond the superficial.  We need to work hard to get conservatives elected - across the board - in 2020.

Fine! Trump has done a lot including a lot of pro-life acts. I'm a part of it. You aren't. Simple as that. Things are a lot better now, I'm glad I voted like I did.

What arrogance to say that because you support Trump you are more important to the pro-life cause than those of us who have been involved in the movement for decades but haven't been swayed by a populist who recognizes that the popular winds are blowing against abortion.

I will NEVER regret my decision not to vote for a man who was pro-abortion his entire 70 years before he ran for President as a "Republican."

NEVER.

But your arrogance is duly noted.

@Victoria33 , I'm a bit miffed that you failed to include me on your ping list... :rolling:

All kidding aside, @TomSea is reverting to the only tool in the Orange Brigade toolbox, that of personal attacks and intimidation. This is all we've seen from Trump's Brigadiers for upwards of 3 years. Their levels of cognitive thought and expression barely register with many on TBR.

It's a simple meme for them: Trump is the greatest President who ever lived, and if you don't genuflect before him, you're a traitor to the country.

OTOH, most of us "Never Trumpers" have recognized the positive things Trump has done, such as judicial appointments. It just seems like every time I step toward voting for Trump in 2020, he does something to make me take a step back, such as his equivocating on closing the border or taking other actions to improve border security.

I am thankful to the Founding Fathers for limiting the powers of the President. There were those that were thrilled with previous presidents governing through executive orders, and we railed against such action. Now, with Trump in office, there's a clamor for similar actions, thanks to the inaction of Congress.

How can one rationally deride Buttigeg's military service, while giving Presidents like Trump, Clinton, and former VP Cheney passes for their artful avoidance of military service?

I'm all over the map this morning, my apologies. In closing, Trump's supporters have failed to move the ball forward with me. There just isn't much there beyond their saying that Trump is a "fighter" (I prefer the use of "bully"), and the reason why he hasn't done more is it's Congress' fault. Hey YOU out there, that's how the Founding Fathers envisioned the federal government. Ronald Reagan recognized that, and worked with a Democrat majority in the House to move the ball forward. Despite the most notable failure, that of Simpson-Mazzioli, he lowered the taxes and got the economy rolling in a way that hasn't been seen since then.

What you call a personal attack is in my opinion an observation of hundreds of posts made by ardent Trump supporters over the past 3 years. You have a problem, in that your leader has a mercurial personality who changes his mind depending on the last person who talked to him. That observation has been well documented in the press, and is borne out by Trump's own actions.

A personal attack is best exemplified by your statements at @Victoria33 . I have done no such thing.

I did that, too.  Again, where were you?

3. Admit you were wrong over how he would govern.

I think whatever good that's actually occurred has been more in spite of him than because of him.  Blasphemy, amirite?  He's the same Trump he always was and we're still waiting for that wall, which he doesn't give a crap about in reality.

Quote
4. Admit he is polling BETTER, than Reagan, B. Clinton and Obama at tthis point during their first terms.

I have no idea how he's polling nor do I care.  What difference does it make?

Quote
4. Admit that 80+ percent of Republicans/conservatives support the duly elected Republican President.

And?  Are we a herd, a collective, or do we think for ourselves?

5. Admit that alternatives like Weld are ridiculous, along with 3rd party efforts that only serve to fail.

@Victoria33
He sounds like a fine person.
If military experience mattered McCain would have beaten Obama.
If accomplishments mattered Romney would have beaten Obama.
If government experience mattered Hillary would have beaten Trump.
If intelligence or speaking abilities mattered President Trump would have been beaten by 16 other GOP candidates.
All those things matter to me, but to a majority of voters? no.

The openly gay thing is gonna be a problem for me.  I don't care what people do in the confines of the bedroom but this doesn't work for me... (https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2019/04/15/13/pete-buttigieg2.jpg?width=668)
I am homophobic, and I'm too old to change.  It's not a deal-breaker if the policies are right, but I doubt Pete's policies are going to be attractive to conservative Never Trumpers.

Maybe they will be for moderate independent voters.  The democrats need to make inroads with those voters to win the Presidency.  From my right side perspective the democrats appear to be moving further left, and about to fracture into their own splinter factions of Establishment rats who favor incremental change and the OAC wing of the party.

Perhaps not.  Maybe opposition to Trump will cement them behind a consensus candidate with broad appeal.  Thanx for mini-biography.  I'll check him out if he moves up the ranks.

So, @Victoria33 has psychoanalyzed Trump hundreds of times.

Condescending talk is unwelcome as well.  But you have a right to it.  If you get some extra time, you should go see that movie "Unplanned".

@TomSea

I’m not trying to stifle your responses.  Go for it.  You set quite a few boundaries for permissible posting yourself, though.

“If one doesn’t like discourse of ideas”—-dude, do you really not see the irony, lol?  You spend a good chunk of time trying to squash criticism of Trump EVEN THOUGH YOU CRITICIZE HIM ELSEWHERE.  I know you don’t like having that particular hypocrisy pointed out.  I’ll stop when you do.

My intention wasn’t to be condescending.  I was explaining that I don’t have the time to visit every thread in order to offer posts  to soothe paranoia about liberals in our midst.

I ain’t being noble at all.  Like I said, I’m not here for the groupthink that’s taken hold, and the more I see it, the more I push back.  What is this “you might not be relevant here with those opinions” stuff?  That’s the environment some of us left in 2016 to come here.  We’re not doing that again.

You aren’t forum nanny, Tom.  Take a step outside yourself and learn how to deal with different views instead of trying to shut them up.  You’ll learn to defend your own opinions, and the air is fresh outside the bubble.

That’s kind of funny/sad—I think I said the exact same thing after coming here from TOS.

Thanks for the movie rec, but I have no plans to see Unplanned at this point.  As someone who’s anti-abortion, it’s preaching to the choir.  Besides, the Unplanned account on Twitter was putting out Qanon crap until the pile-on forced them to delete. But if you’re looking for good TV viewing, I have some show recs, so hit me up.

@dfwgator

I don't think it is all that comlex. Romney knows what to say and do to keep the money rolling in,so that is what he says and does.

Plain and simple,  he is a whore for rent. Pay him enough money, and he would vote conservative.

Best description of Mitt Romney I've heard in a while.  @sneakypete   Just like his lady in waiting, Ann Coulter.

@Smokin Joe

And you are SURPRISED that a sitting President didn't sign a state bill written and approved by state legislators?

Seriously?
Seriously, your own self. You must be fishing for poo to fling today. My comment was in reply to the slobbering over Trumps pro-life-dom, which hasn't really done jack.

The issue will be handled at the State level. Like so much else, all we need to do is get the Feds out of the way.
About all Trump can do is try to appoint SCOTUS justices who will overturn Roe.
