Title: The 70s Cat Box ... Music Thread and occasional Disco Hut

I have to admit, I don't know the decade as well as I knew the later ones mainly cause we were not allowed to listen to radio growing up (World Wide Church of God thing)... So I will be listening probable more than I post. Thanks gang for making the thread a welcome one.

I was fortunate enough to get into Dr. Demento the last few years he was on the air. Alas, he stopped doing his show on the radio nine years ago and now you have to pay $2 a show to hear it online. I get the guy has to pay for his retirement, but it's a shame he had to go to the lengths he did.

Baltimore underwent the Inner Harbor revamp for the Bicentennial (1976), but get a few blocks from that, and it wasn't so good. It has gone downhill since. Especially since Sparrows Point (Bethlehem Steel) closed.

Depends on which Deep Purple you're talking about. They changed lineups a lot over the years, though on the whole, they're all pretty decent if you like hard rock.

THe 70s were an interesting decade, musically, from hard rock to the tail end of protest songs, to disco near the end. Like the late 60s, the early 70s were more my era, as funny as it seems to split decades so. The transition and the spectrum of music in between and leading up to the 80s leaves a rich lode of music for all tastes.

Anyhoo... I googled what was his most regarded solo albums and Paris 1919 came up so I downloaded the collector edition of it (with bonus songs etc..)...

I was less than impressed to be honest. But the title song was ok...

IIRC, the Guess Who were a Canadian group.

I've heard Barry McGuire's 1970s studio and live albums. He definitely is better live, and in studio tended toward over-production. I also saw him live ~1980. He really is good at relating to an audience.

Thanks to reruns, the Internet and growing up with "oldies" on the radio, we can now judge for ourselves... and there's a lot of new appreciation for the older stuff. ('Course, there's a nugget of nostalgia in every generation.)

My grand kids and their friends are looking for music, not so much in the rap/hip hop era, but back to the 60s through 80s for stuff to listen to.

Thanks gang, I got 1970 getting ready to post sometime later... (have to unpack downloads, remove some stuff that wasn't really music, then I have to re-calibrate the music so it is not too loud and clips, then repackage it, and a few other things that take a bit)....
