Chuck Schumer: ‘Democrats Have Always Been for Smart and Effective Ways to Secure Our Border’
(CNSNews.com) - Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) went to the Senate floor on December 22 [1]—the first day of the ongoing partial government shutdown—to declare that his party had always been for “smart and effective†border security measures and to say that Democrats were ready to make a deal with President Donald Trump to fund the parts of the government that were unfunded as long as the deal included no funding for a border wall.
Since then, Schumer and newly elected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) have stuck by that position.

Democrats want open borders because they see potential votes among the immigrant population.
They do not care about keeping America a sovereign nation and it is laughable for Schumer to try to pretend they do.
But their only goal right now is to a prevent a wall, which is Trump's signature goal and which would bring honor to Trump.

Keep the government shutdown for six months, then fire 90% of them, for if we can remain shutdown six months, we don't need them.

Democrats use the term "smart and effective" much in the same manner that they use "common sense": to signal their own policy preference, regardless of merit.

After watching the dueling prime-time speeches last night, it was easy to come away with the idea that the dispute is simply over the president’s demand for wall funding and the partial government shutdown. As such, it should be easy for the president and Dems to cut a split-the-difference deal and move on to the next problem.
After all, isn’t that why they were hired?
If only things were as simple as they appear. In fact, the Democrats’ refusal even to consider any kind of border barrier and other serious measures illustrates that the dispute is merely a proxy for the real issue dividing the nation: 2016.
Like generals fighting the last war, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are fixated on the last presidential election. Their refusal to let it go and get on with governing in a divided Congress is a shameful sign of how radical their party has become since Trump’s election. ...

I'm gonna have to jump in here and disagree. Sure, those jobs you mentioned ARE necessary jobs. But do you have any idea how many government jobs there are ... and that have been created (especially by leftist idiots like Obama)... that are totally unnecessary...
and that do nothing but drain taxpayer money away from needed and necessary (if not crucial) expenditures? Think of it this way. Every time the left is in control of government, they bloat and grow it exponentially. There are thousands upon thousands of jobs they have created just to give their leftie supporters a cushy job with pension for political reasons. I don't know if the percentage is that high (90%)... but it sure as hell is 45-50%, from what I already know about "government jobs".
If we could do an audit and get rid of at least 30% of those "make work" government jobs, we could save millions of taxpayer dollars.

Have the democrats ever put forth a plan of their smart and effective border protection? I haven't heard any specifics in the many TV appearances of Chuck and Nancy.

Tax returns are still coming and, by the way, we will live with a little inconvenience to achieve a greater goal for our country. At least I will.

And, if we remember, a whole bunch of us questioned the federalization of TSA workers in the first place. It wasn't long ago that they weren't federal employees.

It is increasingly rare, to hear "Republican/conservative" politicians with the courage to speak truths like this, or to really believe them.

Night Hides....for the record, I guess you do not understand sarcasm. So, for your delicacies, to be exact, we could easily rift 40% of all federal employees excluding defense and national security, which includes the TSA, since they secure our airports, and actually increase the productivity and general happiness of most that remain because they will not be faced with make work that accomplishes nothing.
I have worked with many different branches of government, and it is the same everywhere. We could probably get rid of a couple hundred thousand consultants who largely do the work of the federal employees who sit back and watch the wind blow. And that includes groups like the CDC and NIH.
Even Reagan who ran on reducing government actually increased it, and every president since has done the same. Our tax dollars are sufficiently squandered that a large part of the deficit each year could be eliminated by managing resources that are in great excess. We do not have to fire anyone either, but red shirt every position vacated as people leave due to retirement, move to different positions outside government, death, etc.
And in regard to the IRS, that group could all but be eliminated with smart tax policy, but again, Congress abdicates their responsibility to accomplish anything but increasing their personal compensation and benefits. Without term limits, these corrupt pukes will continue to destroy our country, brick by brick.
