Is Racism Moral Now?

By Victor Davis Hanson
March 28, 2021

“Whiteness is a public health crisis. It shortens life expediencies, it pollutes air, it constricts equilibrium, it devastates forests, it melts ice caps, it sparks (and funds) wars, it flattens dialects, it infests consciousnesses, and it kills people . . . ”

—Damon Young, New York Times contributor

“Over the past year, I have, of course, still had to interact with white people on Zoom or watch them on television or worry about whether they would succeed in reelecting a white-supremacist president. But white people aren’t in my face all of the time. I can, more or less, only deal with whiteness when I want to . . . White people haven’t improved; I’ve just been able to limit my exposure to them.”

—Elie Mystal, The Nation

Racism is the deductive bias against, and often hatred of, an entire racial group. It is often birthed by dislike of particular individuals of a given group that supposedly justifies, by extension, disliking or indeed hating all of them. The popular reaction against this widespread toxic pathology shown African Americans birthed the anti-slavery movement, the Civil War, the resistance to Jim Crow, and the modern Civil Rights movement.

But now there grows a strange new ahistorical “antiracism” racism.

One variety encourages holistic hatred, blaming all of one’s own unhappiness, indeed all of the cosmic injustice in the manmade and natural world—the very air, water, and earth—on a white racial collective.

Another constructs a purported racial pathology to encourage segregation and separation from all members of the white race, thereby limiting all “exposure” to a toxic people.

Separate but equal is now en vogue as the new Civil Rights Movement.

This isn't really all that "new," it's just in the open now.  Good.

There must be a lot of laughing and back slapping in hell among the old Southern Democrats to see how 60 years later minorities are willingly doing what the Dixiecrats forced them to do way back then.

Hell yeah, they're laughing.  The rest of us are revolted.

One of the most laughable ideas that have been promoted by the left for many decades is that non-white people can't be racist.
What is racism? Racism is a form of hate where you hate somebody because of the color of their skin or ethnicity.
The idea that black people can't be racists because they don't have power is stupefyingly ridiculous. Anybody can be a racist. There are hundreds of white people murdered by black people annually. Many of the black killers say they did it because they hate white people. That's racism.
The notion that some black loudmouth politician/celebrity has no power is also ridiculous destroying the black people-have-no-power myth.

What is racism? Racism is a form of hate where you hate somebody because of the color of their skin or ethnicity.

Back in my grad school days there were instances of "affirmative action" which became newsworthy.  In yet another example of ceding ideas and terminology to the left, Conservatives called these instances "reverse discrimination."

"Reverse" suggests that there is some normal, "forward" direction.  When we allowed (in fact we approved) the term "reverse discrimination" we agreed implicitly that *real* discrimination operates in a particular direction, practiced by white people to the detriment of others; but when some policy or habit works to the systematic detriment of white people it isn't *real* discrimination, merely something that appears similar upon casual observation but really isn't similar at all.

In my opinion our acceptance and use of the term "reverse discrimination" was a significant step in the direction of where we are today, where many argue that racism is inherent only to white people and impossible for any others.

The correct term then was not "reverse discrimination", it was "revenge discrimination."  So while some might describe today's much more explicit version of progressive hate as "reverse racism", let us remind them that racism has no forward or reverse direction, it is simple racism.  If an adjective is necessary, let's call this what it is, "revenge racism."

Mr. Hanson asks:
"Is Racism Moral Now?"

Whether "racism" is "moral" or not, is of little importance or bearing.

What IS important is to realize that it is inherently normal and natural for the members of an ethnic or racial group to identify with that group, and to be defensive against others who are not like themselves.

It's been like this since the beginning of time, and nothing is going to change it. Certainly not words on a piece of paper (such as the famous platitude penned by Thomas Jefferson).

It is what it is. I call it two words: racial reality.

And because it is what it is, we find that throughout human history whenever there are different ethnic/racial groups in close proximity, there is usually conflict, often of the most brutal kind.

It's also why any hope of a multiracial American society is doomed to failure.
We may be reaching the cusp of that failure now.

As you will recall, the subject of the Supreme Court's Bakke Decision was that UCLA could not discriminate against Bakke because he was white.   Bakke had been denied entry into UCLA's medical school in favor of a lesser qualified POC named Patrick Chavis.

Chavis graduated and filled the pressing need of the POC whale community of Inglewood for skilled liposuction surgeons.

Except he wasn't very skilled and sent patients home to bleed to death internally.

Ooops.

Oh, and the USSC had ruled under Bakke that the systemic racial discrimination of affirmative action was constitutional, so long as a formal quota was not established.

So.

Back before systemic racism was accepted and demanded by the Rodents and the black community, they had access to the best doctors a meritocracy could provide their neighborhoods.

Now the POX get affirmative action doctors and affirmative action malpractice and affirmative action dead people.

Depends on your skin color.
