CDC Study Finds Overwhelming Majority Of People Getting Coronavirus Wore Masks

A Centers for Disease Control report released in September shows that masks and face coverings are not effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19, even for those people who consistently wear them.
A study conducted in the United States in July found that when they compared 154 “case-patients,†who tested positive for COVID-19, to a control group of 160 participants from the same health care facility who were symptomatic but tested negative, over 70 percent of the case-patients were contaminated with the virus and fell ill despite “always†wearing a mask.
“In the 14 days before illness onset, 71% of case-patients and 74% of control participants reported always using cloth face coverings or other mask types when in public,†the report stated.

I am not surprised.
(1) Mask give some a false sense of security.
(2) The people wearing mask were out and about more often, in places where there were larger groups of people, being more likely to get infected.
A farmer in the middle of nowhere has no need to wear a mask, but someone going up an elevator to a 20th floor office may.

here in my part of Trump Country. It is refreshing. Liberating actually.

I wore one 8 hours/day, for 6 years. I was much younger then, and it was a requirement for the clean room in which I worked. Those cheap paper ones they push are actually called "spit-shields" because all they really do is catch saliva that spews out when you talk. They filter nothing.

But since I ain't going out there for Costco, and since my Straight Talk phone is paid for for the next 3 months already, I have no reason to go all the way out there.
I AM going to town though. I'm about out of tobacco... so a few more blocks to SuperOne is likely.

Help with what? @libertybele It's a damn virus. We either build herd immunity or we live this way for the rest of our lives.
We've a much better understanding of how the virus works, have developed new therapeutics to treat the disease (Exhibit A: The viral load was erased in three days in a 74 year old man) and vaccines are nearly ready for distribution (yes, to those who want them). The Trump administration has just made a deal for distribution of the vaccine to seniors through CVS and Walgreens.
My point is: The most vulnerable may need to exercise some caution .... as they do during the seasonal flu season .... but everyone else needs to drop the fear and fully live again.

It is still ridiculous around here -- I called to try to make an appointment to see a specialist and because I have a heart condition I was told I could only do a tele health appointment. So, how are they going to review my MRI films from a distance and coordinate with another specialist?? So waiting to hear back from the new patient guru to see if they'll make an exception. 9999hair out0000

I can't disagree, but I also can't unring a bell. It was supposed to be 2 weeks to flatten the curve and this has morphed into until we have zero infections.
It's bullshit. What concerns me is too few Americans --- and Europeans ---- realize this.

Of course, if someone wearing it keeps touching/adjusting it, moves it up and down while people are near, the purpose for the mask is defeated. Doctors are wearing N95s, plus a face shield. HOWEVER, READ THIS:
This is what happened when I went to an orthopedic pain doctor about three months ago and I do not see this doctor anymore but not due to this situation:
I did wear an N95 and face shield since numerous people in physical trouble were there. I am in the examining room. He comes in with a floppy thin material mask on which won't stay on his face. It kept falling off his nose/off his mouth and he kept pulling it up and this happened continually while I was in there.
This was not a large room as most examining rooms ARE small. If he had the virus, he would have given it to any patient he saw as there was about 3 feet between him and the patient, and I was the patient, but I had the N95/face shield on. Plus, if a patient had the virus and not wearing an N95 (and few people have them) the doc was totally unprotected with the thin mask falling down all the time and would get it. Neither did he have medical gloves on. He should have had medical gloves on and change them before seeing the next patient.
GOING TO THE DENTIST:
I have developed a TMJ problem so went to a dentist. Of all people, praise a dentist to keep his/her office open during this time. A dentist is going to be inches from a patient's mouth - that takes courage; I don't think I could do that. I had on an N95, but it had to come off. When I entered the "small room" with the dentist chair there, they had me rinse my mouth with a mouth wash, and that was all. Both the dentist and the woman assistant were right there in front of my mouth; if I had the virus, they surely would get it - how could they not with my breathing inches from them? They could also give it to a patient being so close to them. I don't have an answer how dentists and their patients keep from passing the virus.

Your N-95 medical masks are designed to be worn in sterile environments such as operating rooms in hospitals. Outside of such places they are good for about 15 minutes tops. After that, they are doing you more harm than good.

No, as I have already shown you, an N95 is nothing special. And a face shield, in forward motion, creates a roil behind the shield, just like a wing does... rendering it useless for protection for infection through eyes.
HOWEVER, READ THIS:
Meh. My brother is a chiro in Nashville (a supposed 'hot-spot'). Sees many people a day. Wears no mask or any other PPE. Just washes between patients and wipes down rooms with chlorine.
He is tested weekly. He has yet to become infected. If he is infected, he'll take the time off for quarantine, and then right back at it.
We are also a 'hot-spot' right now in MT. I don't wear a mask, nor does my family. We're all pretty sure we'll take the risk of not being in the 99.04 % recovery category...
You've a better chance of getting killed by a car than you do the Rona.

I would add that the most vulnerable can get back to a normal life the sooner the rest of us develop herd immunity. Herd immunity is going to happen one way or another. Sooner is better than later. The only attempts to slow it down should have been based on keeping the local healthcare resources from being overloaded. And that should have been done on a local level, not a one size fits all policy.

Asian countries have been wearing masks for years for pollution, and yet they all caught COVID with their masks on.
If masks worked, most Asian countries would have had zero cases.
So many people think of a mask as a 'magic talisman'. As long as I have my mask on, nothing can hurt me.
Far-Left websites are cult-like about masks.
They have guys wearing masks on Video calls, alone in their home or alone in a car, in the mountains, and while surfing in the ocean.
That is not about practical safety. That is a cult. That is not about a virus. It is about authoritarian population control.
First the mask was to "slow the spread". Then it was to "show you care". Then it became a 'cause', like wearing a 'live strong' bracelet.
Now, according to the far-Left, if you do not wear a mask 24hrs a day, you are a murderer. Now it is mandatory.
Today, not wearing a mask is the same as wearing a MAGA hat. It means that you do not submit to government fear and control.
That drives the Left insane. Once they make wearing the mask a law, then you are suddenly 'illegal'.

I wore one 8 hours/day, for 6 years. I was much younger then, and it was a requirement for the clean room in which I worked. Those cheap paper ones they push are actually called "spit-shields" because all they really do is catch saliva that spews out when you talk. They filter nothing.

I bought myself a face shield. Solely for the purpose of having something "New York legal" (thanks, Cuomo) but still leaving my face visible and being able to breathe. (I don't mind masks for short-term usage in settings I'm not usually around but don't like wearing them long-term.)

With the obvious exception of laptops, phones and tablets, I am in computers every day, and NO, there are not hidden cams or mikes in your computer.
And Alexa don't listen to a damn thing in my house. Because Alexa ain't around here. Cortana is shut off in every Win10 box, So the only AI in the house is Giggles Asisstant in my phone and tablet - And neither one of them work if the phone is <OFF> Nor do they work when the phone is asleep.

I just love the people who get violent with people who aren't wearing a mask... In addition they often pull their own mask down to yell at the other person. If they really feared the virus and thought masks worked they would avoid people without a mask. They would stay well away in fear of catching it.
But they do the exact opposite. They get in their face and physically make contact with them either striking them or trying to drag them out of wherever they are. That should tell you a lot about the true nature of it all. They wouldn't do that if they really feared catching a deadly virus.

Right. I was very late to the smart phone game BECAUSE I didn't want an open mike... Now I use Giggles Assistant, because it is easier for me than hauling out my glasses every thime to see the dang phone. That is my CHOICE. Giggles can be disabled with ease.

Right. I don't do smart, and I am aware that SOME do have cams and mikes - But again they aren't hidden. you know you are buying that and are probably buying that ON PURPOSE, because it costs more. Mine are all basically big-ass monitors serving a computer, so the smart in the one I do have (found free and fixed), the smart is disabled. And it has no cam or mike. There ARE such things as pinhole cams and mikes that are easy to miss if not looking for them, but that ain't easy to miss looking from the INSIDE. And I have been inside a ton of computers, TVs, microwaves and other appliances, and those things are not there.

I just love the people who get violent with people who aren't wearing a mask... In addition they often pull their own mask down to yell at the other person. If they really feared the virus and thought masks worked they would avoid people without a mask. They would stay well away in fear of catching it.
But they do the exact opposite. They get in their face and physically make contact with them either striking them or trying to drag them out of wherever they are. That should tell you a lot about the true nature of it all. They wouldn't do that if they really feared catching a deadly virus.
That is because angry people do stupid things. Thought gets shunted aside by the Limbic brain, and the 'fight or flight' response takes over. They already decided to fight.

I agree with much of that. But the vast majority of these instances of violence the flight option was readily available. They chose violent contact with someone they claim was a mortal threat to them. Making physical contact with an infected person dramatically raises the risk of catching it. I have to believe the motivations involves well more than fear of a "deadly virus". That if offers a justified opportunity to put the beat down on someone they believe belongs to another party that they hate.

But I'm no shrink, and I didn't stay at the Holiday Inn...I suspect there will be libraries full of theses written by the psychologists before the COVID 19 event is put to bed.

The weirdest part of Alexa is people who have it in their bedrooms or bathroom. All of that is being recorded.
I have no Alexa or anything that 'listens' or watches me. Alexa may have a camera already. We would never know it.
Nothing I own is voice activated, except my cell phone, only because I cannot turn the mic off, which I hide in a drawer when not in use.
Bought a computer specifically with no built in camera or mic. You cannot hack something which does not exist.
Turning you mic or camera OFF doesn't do anything. People who know how, can access your computer and all all peripherals whether they are on or off.
And yes, arresting or fighting people for not wearing a mask is ironic.
If it was E-Bola, Leprosy, or Black Death, some other real fatal disease, the last thing anyone would want to do is to contact you physically.
The fact that they are will to confront you while you are wearing no mask means they really do not fear any contamination.
Otherwise, they would simply get far away from you as quickly as possible.
They are just pissed that you are not doing what they want to force you to do. It is about disobedience, not about a potential virus.
You can see this easily by people wearing a knitted mask. That is much worse than nothing because it holds and accumulates all germs the person may encounter throughout the day. If Fauci and the CDC were honest, which they certainly are not, they would warn people of the hazards involved with wearing different types of masks or wearing the same mask for weeks or months. It is worse than not wearing a mask. And we can see this in the data.

I was at a church meeting last night with about 10 people around a table, and one of the cell phones at the table suddenly started talking to us. Perhaps it was because someone had said the word "google," we figured. Then a minute later, another person's cell phone started talking, also offering to provide some assistance in getting some information. It was rather unsettling.
A friend of ours - retired computer guy - decided he didn't want google tracking his every move, so he built a Faraday cage for his cell phone. He puts the phone in there whenever he's heading to the gun store or the pistol range.

I used to test semiconductors while sitting in a Faraday Cage. It was 8 ft tall, and 9X12 ft on the sides. It was two-layer copper screens (separated by 1") on all six surfaces. I've seen much bigger ones.
They're good for two things: Keeping signals inside the box, and also keeping signals out of the box. I also found the effectiveness of the dampening was in inverse proportion to frequencies being filtered. The cage has to be pretty much solid copper sheeting for a cell phone.

I can often turn it around on them. Fatalism is a very powerful weapon against fear... as is fear of the consequences of the reaction to the original fear.

According to a recent study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 70 percent of the people who tested positive for COVID-19 wore masks regularly. By contrast, under 4 percent of those testing positive never wore masks.
Coupled with this was an extensive review of mask studies worldwide in which the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) determined that typical cloth masks did little to stop the transmission of COVID-19. Although experts like to claim that cloth masks will prevent droplets carrying the virus from reaching others when a person sneezes or coughs, the reality is that most people are probably better off using their elbow and turning away from others. Moreover, the virus can still pass through a cloth mask, and the eyes, which aren’t covered, can act as “a portal of entry.â€
The scientific evidence here strongly suggests that masks do nothing at best, and may actually increase the spread of infection at worst. This is probably why countries that haven’t imposed mask mandates do just as well or better than those that have required them.
And yet, the symbolism behind masks is significant enough for mask mandates and mask-shaming to continue. ...
