Warren urges women to share stories of pregnancy discrimination in wake of accusations she lied about losing job
By Rebecca Klar - 10/08/19 12:55 PM EDT

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) urged women to share their stories of pregnancy discrimination after the leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination faced accusations that she lied over her own story of losing a job when she was pregnant in 1971.

“When I was 22 and finishing my first year of teaching, I had an experience millions of women will recognize. By June I was visibly pregnant — and the principal told me the job I'd already been promised for the next year would go to someone else,” Warren tweeted Tuesday, repeating a story she’s told on the campaign trail.

“This was 1971, years before Congress outlawed pregnancy discrimination — but we know it still happens in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. We can fight back by telling our stories. I tell mine on the campaign trail, and I hope to hear yours,” she added.

This is of a piece with the Pocahontas thing -  Warren's willingness to falsely claim victim status to get ahead.

Well, I guess she's short an anecdote now that the Principal she claims canned her, had actually extended her teaching contract another year and expressed disappointment when she quit instead.  She has to recruit another tall tale to keep this trope going.

Pesky facts.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that minutes from a Riverdale (N.J.) Board of Education meeting show the board voted unanimously to extend to Warren a second year contract for her teaching position. Minutes from a meeting two months later, according to the Free Beacon, say Warren's resignation was accepted with regret.

...hmm....ok, my story:]

It was 1982 and I worked for a marketing agency for Ford Motor Company as an administrative assistant to the President, Vice President and marketing director.  I found out I was pregnant and I decided to continue working.  I was treated no differently and was not in the least discriminated against.  I worked up until the day I delivered.  I received cards and flowers from various different people within the company and even received a plant from the corporate company in New York.

I received a phone call the following week from the office manager congratulating me on our new arrival and she asked what my intentions were.  I told her that I had planned on coming back to work and asked how much time I was allowed to take off without losing my job.  She said that she needed to make a phone call to the NY office as there was only one other women who had worked while pregnant in the company and she needed to find out what the policy was.

I received a phone call back in about 15 minutes.  I was told that I could take off up to 6 weeks of work; 4 of those weeks with pay!!!!  It was decided that it would become corporate policy to allow 6 weeks maternity/family leave.  The only stipulation is that I would have to surrender my normal two week vacation time.

I went back to work after 5 weeks and experienced no discrimination, no loss of my position within the company and was given a pat on the back by the women in the company and was called "their role model" for mothers who decided to work.

Not quite sure that Pocahontas would appreciate my story.

You should send it to her. Pregnancy discrimination is a thing of the past. Why does Lieawatha want to dredge this up now?

Considering that my story was back in the early '80's I don't know what kind of b.s. she is trying to push. I'm sure at the time I was very fortunate, but this is 2019 and she needs to get a clue.
