Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Illegal aliens are ‘my constituents’

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called illegal immigrants her constituents.
Cortez asked Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross a question at a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing Thursday.
She led with a quote from Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Republican.
“Mr. Kobach later emailed to you on July 14 writing that the lack of the citizenship question ‘leads to the problem that aliens who do not actually reside in the United States are still counted for congressional apportionment services,’†she said.
“Of course they do reside in the United States. They reside in my district. They’re my constituents,†she added.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday tried to explain her lack of office hours by saying she’s still taking “baby steps†— but said constituents who can’t work with her sporadic schedule should follow her on Twitter.
Almost three months after her inauguration, the freshman congresswoman only recently opened a Queens office and still doesn’t have one in the Bronx. ...
But when asked for a schedule of future events she’d be attending so her constituents could find her, the self-described Democratic socialist claimed she wasn’t “allowed.â€
“Due to safety reasons I’m not allowed to, so Capitol Police, uh, yeah, it’s intense, so, Capitol Police recommend that we don’t give specific details about where we will be and when too far in advance,†she said. ...
In a Time cover story published Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez’s staffers said they’d been trained on how to screen visitors because of the mounting number of death threats targeting the freshman lawmaker.
The rattled aides said they now worry whenever they hear a knock on the door of her office on Capitol Hill.
Really, they believe someone has gotten through Capitol security to attack Sandy from the Suburbs? Are they all paranoid?
Oh, and that business about Capitol police not permitting her to announce her schedule? BS.

Amid her zeal to save the world with the Green New Deal, Rep. ÂAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez has Âignored residents in her own Bronx back yard.
“I thought AOC would be our savior, but that’s not the case,†complained Roxanne Delgado, a local activist who said she has tried for months to get in touch with the congresswoman for help saving an animal shelter and to clean up parks in the district.
Delgado, 40, says she has made numerous calls to Ocasio-Cortez’s offices in Washington and Queens and sent a barrage of tweets after the freshman lawmaker encouraged residents during a recent visit to a Bronx public library to hit her up on social media.
But she’s heard nothing back.
“NO email or contact on @AOC’s page except DC number which has full #voicemail and no one picks up,†Delgado tweeted on Monday. ...
By contrast, he said, residents’ needs received much more attention under Rep. Joe Crowley, whom Ocasio-Cortez unseated in a surprise primary upset last year.
The longtime congressman’s Bronx district representative, Thomas Messina, regularly attended community board meetings, according to Vitaliano.
