Ty Cobb responds to Giuliani indictment, says he ‘sold his soul’ for Trump
by Miranda Nazzaro - 04/24/24 10:31 PM ET

Former White House attorney Ty Cobb on Wednesday suggested that Rudy Guiliani “sold his soul” to protect former President Trump following an Arizona grand jury indictment charging him for his alleged role in a “fake elector” scheme.

Cobb, in an interview with CNN anchor Erin Burnett, reflected on the newly unsealed indictment against Guiliani -the former mayor of New York City turned Trump attorney – alongside a group of other Trump allies and 11 “alternate electors” who signed documents purporting to be the state’s valid electors in December 2020.

Among those indicted includes Boris Epshteyn, a longtime Trump adviser, whom Cobb noted is still “very much” in Trump’s “inner circle.”

Foreign students could face harsher penalties than suspension for anti-Israel rioting: DHS
Anti-Israel protests on college campuses are on the rise across the United States
By Adam Shaw , Bill Melugin Fox News
Published April 24, 2024 3:27pm EDT

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Wednesday that foreign students could potentially face deportation if they are suspended from their courses while on a student visa — just as anti-Israel protests have engulfed Columbia University and other American colleges.

With anti-Israel protests taking place at Columbia and college campuses across the country, which have included antisemitic rhetoric and threats to Jewish students, classes have gone hybrid at Columbia due to safety concerns.

It has raised questions about whether some students, who may be on student visas, could have them revoked or be deported. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., posted on X calling for the removal of foreign nationals backing Hamas.

"Immediately deport all foreign students studying in the USA that support Hamas. We should also revoke federal student loans for any American student arrested for supporting Hamas," she said.

DHS’ Homeland Security Investigations told Fox News that an international student is deemed to be "in status" if they are making progress on their course, and that a temporary suspension does not necessarily impact that status. But there is a path by which that suspension leads to removal proceedings.

"could potentially face deportation if they are suspended" should read "...will be deported upon their suspension..."
Bunch of mealy mouthed, empty threats that won't be enforced or carried out...I'll put a nickel on it.

We came to this decision because the comment does not constitute a violation of Pinterest policy or local law, as applicable.

Was it Twitter (pre-Musk) or Facebook that always went after people for alleged violations of German law? Seriously? German law? I guess it's appropriate, in a way.
At least it wasn't a knock on the door at 3 AM from guys in long black leather coats.

Former Arizona GOP Chair Kelli Ward, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows Indicted for Role in Alternate Electors Case

Elizabeth Weibel 24 Apr 2024

An Arizona grand jury indicted several important allies of former President Donald Trump — including former Trump attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Arizona Republican Chair Kelli Ward, and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows — for their roles in disputing the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Along with Ward, Meadows, and Giuliani, former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis and former Trump campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn, along with several members of the Arizona Republican Party, were among those indicted, according to the Washington Post.

Meadows, Giuliani, Ellis, and Epshteyn are among those who were indicted for allegedly attempting to help Trump receive Arizona’s electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election, which was more than three years ago.

People such as Ward and Arizona state Sens. Jake Hoffman (R) and Anthony Kern (R) were also hit with charges long after they signed paperwork on December 14, 2020, certifying that Trump was the winner of the election.

The indictment of several Trump allies and members of Arizona’s Republican Party comes as a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll conducted between April 8 and 15, found that President Joe Biden is trailing Trump in several key swing states such as Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina by six or more points.

In Arizona, Trump led by seven points, receiving 49 percent of support from voters who indicated they would vote for him, while Biden received 42 percent.

NYPD: We’re Handling Columbia Students ‘with Kid Gloves’ to Avoid 2020 Repeat

Ian Hanchett 25 Apr 2024

On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry stated that the Columbia demonstrators “are kids” and “we are handling them with kid gloves, as you will say,” because they don’t want things to turn into a situation like in 2020, but “if they try to pull this rhetoric on the street or setting up encampments” that won’t happen.

Host Trace Gallagher stated, [relevant exchange begins around 5:15] “t’s kind of one of those things where you have to walk a very fine line, because we remember back to the Black Lives Matter protests and the arrests that were made and then the lawsuits that were filed against the New York Police Department and the millions of dollars that NYPD had to pay out, and that’s why it seems like, sometimes, police officers are reticent to shut things down now like they used to five years ago.”

Daughtry responded, “You’re a thousand percent right. But we’ve got to take into consideration also, these are students, these are kids. And this is the — what we saw with George Floyd was totally different than what we’re seeing now. We don’t want it to get like how it [was] with George Floyd, that’s why we are handling them with kid gloves, as you will say, but like Chief Chell says, if they try to pull this rhetoric on the street or setting up encampments, that is not going to happen, not as long as we are in a leadership position here in this city.”

Fmr. Obama Adviser: The Goal of Biden Loan Plan Will Increase Interest Rates, Inflation, Mortgage Rates

Ian Hanchett 25 Apr 2024

On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy at Harvard University and the Harvard Kennedy School Jason Furman, who served as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Barack Obama and on the Council of Economic Advisers and the National Economic Council under President Bill Clinton stated that President Joe Biden’s student loan plan will put “upward pressure on interest rates, upward pressure on inflation,” and upward pressure on mortgage rates and that the goal of the plan is to increase consumption, which will result in those things happening.

Furman said, “Look, we have unsustainable debt, we have high mortgage rates, we have an economy that has not landed softly. This is a plan that we’ve only heard estimates for part of the cost of it, but when you take the plan as a whole, it’s likely to be 250 to $750 billion. Is that a quantitatively huge contributor to the problems I cited? No. Is it moving in the wrong direction on all of them? Yes, it is, and we shouldn’t be doing that right now.”

Co-host Becky Quick then said, “I have seen arguments out there that say, hey, what are you talking about that this costs anybody any money? All it is is we just say, poof, it goes away, nobody has to pay this, and it doesn’t result in anything.”

Furman responded, “Yeah, there [are], all sorts of magic fairy dust, pixy dust arguments out there. They’re not arguments that would get anyone a passing grade in my classroom. The goal of this is to raise consumption, and in fact, I’ve seen analysis [from] proponents of it saying this will increase consumption. Well, consumption right now is really, really strong, you make it stronger, and that’s what puts upward pressure on interest rates, upward pressure on inflation, and, of course, this gets recorded as an increase in spending, and ultimately, a higher path for the debt.”

Trump Trials: NY Jury Hears Tabloid Publisher’s Testimony, Supreme Court Hears Immunity Arguments

Former President Donald Trump will be back in a New York City courtroom Thursday as his business records trial resumes after a day’s break.

His appearance comes as the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments in Washington, DC, over whether he should be immune from prosecution for actions he took during his time as president. Nine justices will hear the case that will define the scope of presidential power.

Trump is the first former president to have been charged with federal crimes.

AP reports jurors in NYC meanwhile will hear more witness testimony from a veteran tabloid publisher, and the former president faces a looming decision over whether he violated a gag order imposed by the judge.

AZ AMC Restorations
https://www.facebook.com/amcmusclecars
April 24, 2024

Due to the dwindling supply of quality machine shops and very poor quality aftermarket parts as well as a lack of people interested in learning the engine building and machine shop trades, I regret to inform our many followers and current as well as past customers that we will no longer be taking on any new engine build orders unless it is for a car we are restoring.

Since Covid, we have had to do rework on multiple engine builds due to poorly manufactured parts that failed during break in or machine work that was below our standards due to all the old farts like me dying off with no younger workers interested in taking their place.  For example, rod bearings are now made too thin resulting in 390 and 401 crank grinds needing to be ground .0085, .0185 or .0285 under standard rod journal size yet all but one machine shop in the entire Phoenix area refused to do anything other than the standard .010, .020 or .030 grinds.  Even worse, when the one shop that will grind the cranks the way we tell them we need them loses their crank grinder to retirement in another year or two, they do not plan to replace him.

Machine work that used to have a turnaround of 2-3 weeks now takes a minimum of 2-4 months due to an acute lack of people interested in learning machine work and doing manual physical labor. In fact, one engine block was at a machine shop for a year and when we got it back hey did such a poor sleeve job in one cylinder that it was not even useable so it is now a 250 lb paper weight.

About 15 years ago I nearly bought out an aging gentlemen's machine shop and continue to regret not doing so due to the lack of availability of places to get the work done.

As for poor quality parts, Edelbrock aluminum heads are now such poor quality and filled with so much manufacturing machining slag that we have to completely disassemble them, reset the valve stem and spring heights and even sometimes have them resurfaced because the slag scratched the head gasket surface. Similarly, there are only a couple of camshaft manufacturers remaining that harden their cams correctly and nearly all flat tappet lifters are now such terrible quality and inconsistent hardness that we are no longer willing to risk losing a cam due to poorly made cams and lifters.  In fact, we now only use either rollers or custom ground flat tappets with Johnson made lifters from Howard or Herbert.

For example, we have probably used 50 or more Summit cams over the past 15 years but the last 4 we used did not even make it through break in so they too are now off the list of acceptable quality parts as well.

So what does all of this mean?  We will honor whatever engines builds that are not part of a full restoration that we already have in the queue however we must warn all those who have been patiently waiting for their engines to be built that supply chain constraints in addition to rapidly declining parts quality along with a lack of qualified machine shop workers is resulting in our anticipated wait times to get an engine built often doubling in duration.  And if anyone is tired of waiting and thinks they can do better elsewhere, we will fully refund their deposit and wish them well.

What used to take a couple of weeks to get back from a machine shop can easily now take 2-4 months or more resulting in our overall engine backlog now being 15-18 months.  The bottom line is that custom engine building is on its way to becoming extinct and it won't be too many more years before all of us old farts that currently do this work either retire and/or die off resulting in engine building within the collector car hobby becoming nearly impossible to find And when you do find someone, don't be surprised if they are backed out 2+ years or more and that they only want to do Chevy builds and know zero about our beloved AMC engines.   "The times they are a changin'."

And any know it all's that are not in this business who try to show everyone how smart they think they are by declaring that these conditions do not exist, despite literally hundreds of others saying they are experiencing the exact same thing, will have their comments deleted because they are clearly talking out of their ass.
