In hot ancient Rome, it’s not the heat but the cold times that align with plagues
By Jo Nova

The Roman Climate Optimum lives
Quietly hidden in a paper about ancient pandemics is the most detailed estimate of Roman temperatures I’ve ever seen. For 800 years temperatures gyrated over a three degree range. The Climate Alarmists of Rome could have run the whole warming-cooling-warming-scare back to back for 400 years. But make no mistake, the good times, Pax Romana — were the warmest and wettest ones. The colder times are associated with aridity, plagues and collapse.

Two thousand years ago plankton bloomed and died, and the different ratios of warm and cool species left thick layers on the ocean floor just off the heel of the boot of Italy. Every ten years another centimeter thick layer of dead dinocysts collected on the sea floor, which makes for a remarkably detailed record. They report a jaw dropping “three year resolution”. The record was so rich they could pick out the seasons, and wow, by golly, they could compare it with modern air temperatures. (See graph A below) Though, for some reason they don’t make that easy, or say much about how those ancient temperatures compare to today. (Presumably, if they found things were hotter today, they’d have got a Nobel Prize.)

Cold times don’t guarantee a pandemic, but warm times do seem to discourage them:

Despite the expert predictions of doom in hot weather, the ancient Roman records don’t suggest mass outbreaks of malaria, flesh eating bugs, or viral pandemics.

The Astrophysicist Warning About the Coming Little Ice Age: “It’s Already Started”

BY HANNES SARV

“CO2 is not a bad gas,” says Valentina Zharkova, a Professor at the Northumbria University in Newcastle, U.K. On the contrary, she points out, every garden centre uses it in its greenhouses to make plants lush and green. “We actually have a CO2 deficit in the world, and it’s three to four times less than the plants would like,” she notes, adding that the proportion of CO2 in the atmosphere has been at much higher levels throughout our planet’s history than it is now.

In fact, over the last 140 million years, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has been steadily decreasing and only now slightly starting to rise. It is currently around 420 parts per million (ppm), or 0.042%. 140 million years ago, it was estimated at 2,500 ppm (0.25%), or about six times higher. And it also meant a greener and more biodiverse world. If CO2 were to fall below 150 ppm (0.015%), it would already mean the extinction of vegetation and all other life. We came close to that during the last glacial maximum when it was at 182 ppm (0.018%).

Zharkova says that the fact that CO2 levels in the atmosphere are now increasing is a good thing. “We don’t need to remove CO2 because we would actually need more of it. It’s food for plants to produce oxygen for us. The people who say CO2 is bad are obviously not very well educated at university or wherever they studied. Only uneducated people can come up with such absurd talk that CO2 should be removed from the air,” says Zharkova.

EV And AI Power Demands Will Only Fuel More Electric Rate Shocks
by Larry Bell  5 hours ago in Electric Vehicles, Green Energy, News Opinion

Don’t believe “your lyin’ eyes” when the White House knows better, informing you that saving the planet from millions of years of climate change with windmills, sunbeams, electric vehicles (EVs), and super-smart technology will also reduce inflationary energy costs. [emphasis, links added]

Just be patient, even though it’s not working out quite that way so far.

Following relatively flat electricity prices over the seven years before President Joe Biden took office, they have since increased 13 times faster, soaring by 29.4%.

This is about 50% more than the overall inflation they contributed to causing.

And whereas President Biden has claimed “wages are rising faster than prices,” average hourly wages since he took office in January of 2021 are instead down 2.54%.

The left used to make that same comment about Ronald Reagan when he was president solely based on his age

With Biden, it’s not only his age, but his obvious decline mentally that’s the issue

Biden WH Weighs Invoking Climate Emergency To Hamper Oil Production, Garner Youth Votes
by Jennifer A Dlouhy and Jennifer Jacobs  9 hours ago in News

White House officials have renewed discussions about potentially declaring a national climate emergency, an unprecedented step that could unlock federal powers to stifle oil development. [emphasis, links added]

Top advisers to President Joe Biden have recently resumed talks about the merits of such a move, which could be used to curtail crude exports, suspend offshore drilling, and curb greenhouse gas emissions, according to people familiar with the matter who asked not to be named because a final decision has not been made.

White House advisers are divided over the idea of declaring a climate emergency, with some saying it wouldn’t provide Biden with enough newfound authority to make substantial changes, the people said.

Others, however, argue such an announcement would galvanize climate-minded voters.

Not going to  pass

And even if it did, more likely would be shot down by a court

These people have to stop making laws and introducing legislation based on their personal vendettas

Antarctica Is Colder, Icier Now Than Any Time In 5000 Years. The Last Warm Period Was 1000 Years Ago.
By Kenneth Richard on 15. April 2024

More evidence emerges that Antarctica has undergone rapid glacier and sea ice expansion in recent centuries, in line with the long-term and recent Antarctic cooling trend.
West Antarctica’s mean annual surface temperatures cooled by more than -1.8°C (-0.93°C per decade) from 1999-2018 (Zhang et al., 2023).

Not just West Antarctica, but most of the continent also has cooled by more than 1°C in the 21st century. See, for example, the ~1°C per decade cooling trend for East Antarctica (2000 to 2018) shown in Fig. ES1 (right).

According to a new study, about 6000 years ago Antarctica’s Collins Glacier’s frontline was a full 1 km southwest of its current extent. The frontline advanced to today’s extent ~5000 years ago.

ClimateTV – U.S. Surface Temperature Measurements Redux: Still Not Fit for Purpose
18 hours ago Anthony Watts 22 Comments

On episode 106 of The Climate Realism Show, we look yet again at the sad state of the U.S. Surface Temperature network, as host Anthony Watts has done yet another trip across the heartland of United States to get a fresh look at how these stations are setup.

In 2009, and then again, as a follow-up, in 2022, detailed inspections with station location data and photographic evidence the problematic stations were done. Stations providing official climate data that were sited in locations where surrounding surfaces, structures, and equipment radiated stored heat or emitted heat directly biasing or driving the recorded temperatures higher than were recorded at stations in the same region, uncompromised by the well-known UHI (that is widely ignored by alarmists and official government agencies).

Of the sampling of hundreds of stations across the country Watts and his volunteer team documented in 2009, 89% were out of compliance for proper measurement practices. In 2022, with the second inspection, that number rose to 96%. The trip last week, while taking a smaller sample than the two previous efforts, approached 100% as out of compliance.

The Insane World of Intersectional Climate Change
BY STEVEN TUCKER 18 APRIL 2024 3:00 PM

Once upon a time, linking climate change directly back to homosexuality was almost enough to get you sectioned. Remember 10 years ago, during the floods of 2014, when UKIP local councillor David Silvester was widely mocked after writing a letter to then-PM David Cameron, warning that the bad weather of the day was due to Dismal Dave’s acting “arrogantly against the Gospel” by planning to legalise gay marriage, thereby angering God Almighty and causing Him to unleash “storms, disease, pestilence and war” upon us all?

Today, the situation is kind of the reverse, and we are now exhorted to propitiate the angry climate-gods after all – otherwise they will punish those homosexuals who walk amongst us with terrible deluges and inundations of a new kind, as shown by the Daily Sceptic reporting last week on a quite pathetic story in the Independent, headlined ‘How climate change is hitting vulnerable Indonesian trans sex workers’. As the DS wrote, “Street-walking in a Muslim majority country undoubtedly has perils”, but bad weather is not chief amongst them.

Rain of Terror

According to the Independent, the problem was that “the rainy season was lasting longer” and “winds were stronger”, causing clients to stay nice and dry at home and use prostitutes there instead. Even worse, 72% of transsexual escorts in the affected region “had increased expenses” when it rained – how much do umbrellas cost in Java these days? Therefore, it was argued, “climate change makes the vulnerable even more vulnerable”. But does it really? If you bother to read the whole report beyond its absolutely mental headline, you will see that most of the ladyboys involved actually enjoyed a, um, happy ending.

Now You Sea Ice, Now You Don’t

I got to thinking about sea ice and the climate models. Here’s what we know about polar sea ice extent, showing data that starts with the satellite era when we began to have accurate observations of the poles.

Figure 1. Arctic, Antarctic, and global sea ice extent. Colored lines are CEEMD smooths of the underlying datasets.

Now, there are some rather large curiosities regarding the sea ice extent records.

The North Pole is a liquid ocean covered with sea ice, with most of the ice polewards of 70°N. The South Pole is a giant chunk of frozen rock surrounded by sea ice, with almost no ice polewards of 70°S. So why do both poles have about the same extent of sea ice?

From the start of the satellite era up until ~2015, Arctic sea ice extent was decreasing and Antarctic sea ice extent was increasing … and as a result, total global sea ice extent was relatively constant, with 2014 having about the same global sea ice extent as 1978. Why?

Around 2015, Antarctic sea ice extent started dropping rapidly … but Arctic sea ice stopped dropping and leveled off up to the present. Why?

After dropping precipitously for a couple of years, Antarctic sea ice extent leveled off again … and as a result, global ice extent also leveled off. Why?
