John Carrol, Starland Vocal band and "Afternoon Delight" was posted some weeks ago.  That is not the only thing they ever did obviously. They did cover Emmylou Harris' "Boulder to Birmingham" and it sounds like they had a summer TV show at one time.

I pulled a fast one on my blues band at our Thursday afternoon rehearsal. We play this number as part of our repertoire,
with organ and guitar solos in the middle instead of just the guitar solo . . .

Santana, "Moonflower"

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5b3VBUW2ok#)

. . . but after the solos, on the stop at that transition bridge, I threw them a curve and started playing the melody of . . .

Xavier Cugat, "Sway"

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZK68-mALLc#)

. . . on my guitar, in the "Moonflower" key of D minor, of course. It hit me to try it a split second before coming out of that transition.
The guys in the band picked up on it immediately, to their credit (we'd never tried to play the song in any way before), since both songs
in the same key use pretty much the same chords, just arrayed differently. Then after running through one playing of "Sway's"
main and bridge, at the stop I hit the bridge for "Moonflower" and we finished off that way. We were so thrilled about how it
worked we decided to keep it in our book of originals and non-beaten-to-death covers.

(Fair disclosure: I know Cugat's "Sway" has no guitar in it, but I figured it out from listening to the horn parts!)

Per another thread here about a redstate.com contributor, Sarah Rumph (politics forum), in West Germany in the early '70s, there was a group called "Frumpy" with Inga Rumph. It's kind of interesting.

Monday, March 5th, 2018 Music Thread

All music is welcomed!

Per the two websites we usually look at for birthdays, on this day in music history was the tragic plane crash

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/5 (https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/5)    http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today)
Quote
1963, Country singers Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins were killed in a plane crash near Camden, Tennessee. They were travelling to Nashville after appearing at a benefit concert for the widow of Kansas City disc jockey 'Cactus' Jack Call, who had died in a car crash. On 7 March, country singer Jack Anglin was killed in a car crash on his way to Cline's funeral. Cline was the first country singer to cross over as a pop artist.
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/ (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/)

Then, around a year later, Jim Reeves, piloting his own plane, crashed in Tennessee.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Reeves (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Reeves)

Ironic and sad, speaking of South Africa, Gentleman Jim Reeves was successful musically with a number of recordings in Afrikaaners language. One can look those songs up at youtube. It also sounds like those who know that language think he had quite an accent like Nat King Cole singing in Spanish.

Born this day in history:

Tommy Tucker, songwriter, performer of 'Hi-Heeled Sneakers':

Some late birthdays for today, two significant figures, only saw this looking at the country music birthdays http://www.hillbilly-music.com/artists/index.php (http://www.hillbilly-music.com/artists/index.php)   :

But those other websites missing Bob Wills, born in 1905, that's pretty weak:

"Stay A Little Longer", my favorite.
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM50ZQpSSTY#)
"San Antonio Rose", signature song.
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C08jmN1sM8#)
"Take me back to Tulsa",  a song well done by Asleep at the Wheel:
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1YtImqPW8c#)
One can read Bob Wills' wikipedia biography, he lived in Roy, New Mexico for awhile, I mean, he was a barber there, pretty amazing.

Red Simpson, Bakersfield sound, I believe he passed away only in the past few years, 2016, big exponent of "Trucker" music:
"Roll Truck Roll":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emut12H0PT0#)
"Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nphlIM-08zA#)
And plenty of others one can look for.

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 Music Thread
Welcoming All Music!

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/7 (https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/7)
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today)

Yvonne Chouteau, Native American and ballerina, this really is worth checking out, she seems to have been a pioneer, culture.

Townes Van Zandt, how does his wikipedia bio tell it, he is related to some of the founders of Texas.  Considered a giant by many.
"Heartworn Highways"
"Tecumseh Valley" with Nancy Griffin"
Of course, I'd think his most famous song was "Pancho and Lefty" but not necessarily his best.

Arthur Lee of Love, a landmark band, "Alone again or":

Ernie Isley, Isley Brothers, "Who's that lady", that's the song I've heard:

Latin bombshell, Iris Chacon, others in bands recently covered include members of the J. Geils Band, Zombies and Procol Haram.

Peter Wolf, J. Geils Band, "Detroit Breakdown",
 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY83OdwY2l8#)

Donna Loren, singer and actress of "Beach Blanket Bingo", I've seen some movie with a title like that.
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxBMm1RHfkw#)

Yesterday, I added on Bob Wills and Red Simpson for February 6th, amazingly, the websites usually used did not even include either of these two. Bob Wills though, is a landmark figure. So, perhaps, we will see some more country stars added later on from the country and western website: http://www.hillbilly-music.com/artists/index.php (http://www.hillbilly-music.com/artists/index.php)

In fact, belated wishes to Jean Chapel for March 6, "Don't let go", I see her listed. I'm not real familiar with her, seems a bit like Mae West:

Some late birthday entries, one belated birthday entry,

Ralph Emery, mainly a country dj and host of a country music show on the Nashville Network, he was married to Skeeter Davis, he also use to plug "Goody's Headache Powders"...

Just a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Emery (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Emery)

Also, the 11th, Lily May Ledford was born on this day in history, she was part of the Coon Creek girls... out of Kentucky or around there and in fact, Cincinnati, Ohio, they are suppose to be like one of the first all girl bands to make it big... I think they played for a President as well.  A reincarnation has recently played but not really from the classic lineup of many moons ago.

"Sweet Baby James", this song has been covered, I forget who, but they do it and you realize it's a classic:
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaySP-L4OOk#)
A lot of compilations come up for this artist; not to forget that even before "Fire and Rain", he made some album for Apple, the Beatles' record company.
Singing "Mockingbird" with Carly Simon:

Mike Gibbins of Badfinger, "Day After Day":

Very Beatles sounding imo, and they were apparently connected to them.

Great version of the classic "Hushabye" by Camera Obscura:

Pretty much sounds like a live recording at the Radio Station, they could really polish this up, make it a full song.... this is only 1:44 long.

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today)

Mike Stoller of the renown songwriting team Lieber-Stoller was born on this day making an important contribution to pop.  Though, it is decades ago he helped pen a number of songs and one can see them  here:  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_written_by_Jerry_Leiber_and_Mike_Stoller)

Lieber-Stoller wrote Hound Dog which Elvis of course, had a big hit with, they also wrote a few other Elvis numbers like "King Creole", which was the name of an Elvis movie as well:  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eHJ12Vhpyc#)

Stoller co-wrote "Jackson" with Bill Edd Wheeler. The song sung by Johnny Cash and June Carter.

And "Stand By Me" which Ben E. King sang, so really big hits.

Sammy Kaye was born, Sammy Kaye and his orchestra, "Swing and Sway":

Neil Sedaka, wrote "Where the Boys are" which was a big hit for Connie Francis and of course, Neil Sedake had a number of other hits:

The Castells out of Santa Rosa California, cerca 1960, this is lovely if one can hear it on a good sound system....someone in that French music forum I go to from time talked about it, "Petits Yeux Tristes", Little Sad Eyes and the video shows an actress who was named Helen Twelvetrees, famous for her eyes.

I get how the wikipedia article says they were kind of a mix of college harmony, doo wop, I think they said some of their stuff was even jazzy.

Remember, and Merle was usually right, except when he wasn't being a card-shark, which I think one can probably find references to on the web.

I Take a Lot of Pride in What I Am
Merle Haggard

Things I learned in a hobo jungle
Were things they never taught me in a class room
Like where to find a hand out
While bummin' through Chicago in the afternoon

Hey, I'm not braggin' or complainin'
I'm just talkin' to myself man-to-man
This ol' mental fat I'm chewin' didn't take a lotta doin'
But I take a lot of pride in what I am

It's  Jerry Jeff Walker's   (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Jeff_Walker#Singles) birthday, songwriter, known for "Mr. Bojangles":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-LVXR6rjXs#)
That's quite a song really.
He wrote some song I like a lot and didn't know he wrote, I can't remember it now. He also sings a somewhat standard of your more "progressive" country music if that can be said, country rock, etc., "Navajo Rug", that's pretty good if one has never heard it before.
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryYnDMx_h4U#)
Ian Tyson of Ian and Sylvia sings this too.

Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel was born on this day, "Miles and Miles of Texas", really, not one of the first songs you think of that they performed, probably originally from the Bob Wills era, from their early albums:

Jimmy Nail of the UK, "Ain't No Doubt", I doubt he is that well known in the USA.

Nancy Wilson of Heart, as time goes on, they are looked at as being way up there.

Some dates coming in late from the Modesto California's data bank  (http://www.hillbilly-music.com/artists/index.php) on country and western, "hillbilly" music shows the notable artist,  Buddy Starcher  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Starcher)was born on this day. They don't make these kinds of records nowadays, at least, not much...some are sort of editorials, patriotic narratives and I'm sure the catalog for his career has much more.  A lot of us know about Tom T. Hall, great songwriter, he even has some similar types of songs in his repertoire. Buddy Starcher basically belonged to a larger musical group "The Starcher family"and I think they have a farm out in West Virginia.

"History Repeats Itself" per the JFK/Lincoln comparison:

People probably have not heard of this guy... one of his songs was posted before, "Sniper's Hill" on the War on Vietnam, really pretty good...great female vocal accompaniment:

At youtube, the  Vietnam War Song Project  (https://www.youtube.com/user/VietnamSongProject), songs from all perspectives.

Amazingly,  another birthday per that website out West,  Shirley Collie,  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Collie_Nelson) "who is that?", I guess one would mainly note her for being Willie Nelson's 2nd wife.  At least, the wikipedia picture has her looking a lot like Patsy Cline, I think I can say.

Another artist to remember to listen to more:

Another gem, didn't chart it sounds like they are saying, I know the girl is known for her single in the 2nd video, won't make the most recognizable artists list.

Donna Lynn - True Blue (pop from 1965)

Maybe she hailed from the United Kingdom or Australia where one comment says she was known.  That first song is awesome.

Well, if we are already listing some singers born on 18 March, the great  Charley Pride  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charley_Pride) was born on that day in history:

Born in Mississippi, Charley still tours, he is very popular in Canada, there is some stat like "after Hank Williams (or Merle or others),  among American country artists, he is the best selling country artist in Canada" and he has a great voice.  We've posted some of his songs... one of his best-sellers, "Kiss An Angel Good-Mornin'" is real pop country, I don't care for much at all but the rest is good.

'Mississippi Cotton-Picking Delta Town':

'Burgers and Fries' (and cherry pies):
A restaurant in Midland called themselves that, looks like business dropped and they closed, boom or bust, I don't care how often they say it...seemed kind of unsteady...
"Burgers and fires and cherry pies it was simple and good back then..", so the song has a bit of sentimental value although, I can see how one can say that's not necessarily the best country.  It was part of the '50s nostalgia craze of the '70s I'd bet, check Ronnie Milsap's "Lost in the '50s" for more.

Janet Patricia Gardner and  Roxy Dora Petrucci both of the '80s bighaired girls' band, Vixen, "Edge Of A Broken Heart"; they are amazing to watch, sadly, I believe I heard one of the 3 has passed away.
@TomSea
Wait...what?!

This is news to me.  I have a friend who's a fan, too, and he hasn't said anything to me.  Do you know where you might have heard it?

Edit: Oh, wait...you must mean Jan Kuehnemund.  Yes, she died a few years ago of cancer.

One of the websites points out that it is Vaughn Meader's birthday, anyone familiar with him? He was a JFK imitator:
I remember him very well from my boyhood; my parents were huge fans of his signature album . . .

Vaughn Meader, The First Family

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwu8S6Ekx9w#)

Meader was in a taxi in Milwaukee when the news broke about JFK's assassination. (Some stories say he thought it was a gag at first.) He wasn't scheduled
to perform that night except to a gathering of Wisconsin's state Democratic Party . . . but Lenny Bruce did have a nightclub gig that day. Bruce went ahead
with his gig, telling his audience at one point, referring to Kennedy's assassination, "Boy, is Vaughan Meader f@cked!" Bruce may only have been kidding,
he couldn't have known Meader would find himself so typecast as a JFK impressionist that no one would hire him to do anything else, and he'd made
public his refusal to continue his JFK impersonation after the assassination.

Meader made a few albums after 1963, none of which did anything spectacular for him. His friends abandoned him; he was dead flat broke by the end of 1965
and sinking into a morass of depression, alcohol, and drugs. He took whatever work he could find in the years to follow, though he did appear on Rich Little's album
The First Family Rides Again, Little's impersonations of Ronald Reagan, before returning to his music roots and playing bluegrass in his native Maine.
He never really recovered from the collapse of his comedy career following the Kennedy assassination, but he's remembered as setting new standards for political
parodies and impressions. He died in 2004; his survivors include his fourth wife, two stepchildren, and a step-granddaughter.

Gonna Get Along Without You Now!

Quote
Lyrics

Uh huh, uh huh, gonna get along without you now
Uh huh my honey, uh huh my honey,
Gonna get along without you now
You told me I was the neatest thing

You even asked me to wear your ring
You ran around with every girl in town
You never cared if it got me down

Uh huh, uh huh, gonna get along without you now.
Uh huh my honey, uh huh my honey,

Gonna get along without you now
Got along without you before I met you
Gonna get along without you now
Gonna find somebody who's twice as cute

'Cause I didn't like you anyhow
You told everybody that we were friends
But this is where our friendship ends
'Cause all of a sudden you changed your tune

You haven't been around since way last June.
Uh huh, uh huh, gonna get along without you now.
Got along without you before I met you
Gonna get along without you now

So long my honey
Goodbye my dear
Gonna get along without you now

All Music Welcomed!

Looking at some birthdays, I will just post this excerpt of Carol Kaye, a female bass player, so notable:

Quote
1935, Born on this day, Carol Kaye one of the most prolific and widely heard bass guitarists, who has played on an estimated 10,000 recordings in a career spanning over 50 years. Kaye was the bassist on many Phil Spector and Brian Wilson productions in the 1960s and 1970s. She is credited with the bass tracks on several Simon & Garfunkel hits and many film scores by Quincy Jones and Lalo Schifrin. She contributed to The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Kaye also performed on many American TV themes including The Streets of San Francisco, Mission: Impossible, M*A*S*H and Kojak.

That's her bass on the Batman theme:
Check youtube, maybe she even played on "Light My Fire" by the Doors.
Quote
Besides her contributions on bass guitar, she also played 12-string and six-string electric and acoustic guitars, contributing the acoustic rhythm guitar parts on Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba" in one of her earliest recording sessions,[
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carol_Kaye (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carol_Kaye)
Plays even on the theme to Mannix per wikipedia, quite an accomplished musician.

I have to excerpt again, the description is too long, Billy Stewart:
Quote
1937, Born on this day American rhythm and blues singer and pianist Billy Stewart who had the 1966 US No.10 single with his version of the George Gershwin song 'Summertime'. Stewart and three of his band were killed on 17 January 1970 when the Ford Thunderbird that Stewart was driving crashed off a bridge and plunged into the Neuse River near Smithfield, North Carolina.

Paul McCartney invokes John Lennon at NYC "March for Our Lives"
CBS/AP March 24, 2018, 7:00 PM

(https://cbsnews2.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2018/03/24/06a25feb-4913-4f5d-918f-5cd83849b3b6/resize/620x/ee76c68a81b4e120cb869b7c7f12ee72/gettyimages-937355656.jpg#)

Paul McCartney was one of tens of thousands of demonstrators on Saturday who turned out for a New York City march coinciding with the "March for Our Lives" in Washington D.C. "I'm like everyone -- I don't know, but this is what we can do, so I'm here to do it," McCartney said Saturday, while wearing a shirt that read: "We can end gun violence" and holding a "March For Our Lives" sign.

The former Beatle told CNN he marched because his former bandmate John Lennon was lost to gun violence in 1980.

"One of my best friends was killed in gun violence right around here, so it's important to me," McCartney said.

Kind of interesting. He rode his bike through a public park when there was a concert in town. I thought, he must have had some security just making sure everything was safe. I'm pretty sure I remember that he had an entourage there.

I think I saw some other celebs were there.

@TomSea
What's consider the "classic" lineup of Savoy Brown---Chris Youlden (vocals), Kim Simmonds (lead guitar), Lonesome Dave Peverett (second guitar), Tony Stevens (bass), and
Roger Earl (drums, and hands up to everyone who recognises the last three as the eventual---with slide guitarist Rod Price---Foghat)---incorporated that song into this mashup
that was a regular highlight of their live performances . . .

On Johnny Burnette, it's unbelievable on some of the tragedy that visited some of these stars....
Quote
On August 14, 1964, Burnette's unlit fishing boat was struck by an unaware cabin cruiser on Clear Lake, California. The impact threw him off the boat, and he drowned.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Burnette (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Burnette)

This is interesting too, he pitched some of his songs to Ricky Nelson who recorded some of his songs, hits too.  Ricky Nelson, another tragedy.

Quote
On arriving in Los Angeles, Joe Campbell bought a copy of "A Map to the Stars", which showed the location of the house of the teen idol Ricky Nelson. In an effort to get their songs to him, the Burnettes and Campbell decided to sit on the steps of his house until they could get a meeting with him. [2][citation needed] Their persistence worked, and Nelson was sufficiently impressed with their work that he eventually recorded several of their songs, including "Believe What You Say", "It's Late", "Waitin' in School", and "Just a Little Too Much", amongst others.

Johnny's brother was Dorsey Burnette: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorsey_Burnette (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorsey_Burnette)

Nice rendition of rockabilly boogie in England...a real tribute to Johnny Burnette, likewise, he didn't write "Train Kept A Rollin'" but I'm sure his version inspired Aerosmith and the Yardbirds.

Tuesday March 27th,  2018 Music Thread!
All Music Welcomed!

Again, if people want to open up Sunday's birthdays, feel free too, this is for the whole weekend.

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/27 (https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/27)
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today)

A few birthdays,

Songwriter of "Happy Birthday to you",  Patty Smith Hill, born in 1868, a cover below:

LeRoy Carr, "When The Sun Goes Down":

Pee Wee Russell, "It Don't Mean A Thing":

A great rockabilly queen, the female Elvis, Janis Martin via Virginia:
"All Right Baby"
"Will You William":

Andrew Brown, the Herd (early band with Peter Frampton, even before Humble Pie), "From the underworld":

Mariah Carey, "Love Takes Time":

Fergie Duhamel, Black Eyed Peas, "Where Is The Love":

Not many birthdays today, so some non-birthday related items.

Cherry Wainer and Don Storer, "Peter Gunn". Cherry is a South African, so I found a few of her decades-old songs of interest:

Jim Reeves singing in Afrikaaners, he was a bit popular there....
Comments seem to indicate a clear accent though.

And back to America, here is a band, I'm sure one forum member knows of but I did not, Reparata and the Delrons, shows the talent that we miss....
"Captain Of Your Ship"

Kathy Linden's "Goodbye Jimmy"...

This song is used for a number of purposes, say, some use it for patriotism, soldier over seas, it's a bit like "Danny Boy" in sentiment, must be of Scottish/Irish/Gaelic type of origin.

Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 Music Thread.... All Music Is Welcomed!

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/28 (https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/28)

Well, we will check out some birthdays, it's Lady Gaga's birthday, superstar...
"Bad Romance":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrO4YZeyl0I#)
I heard "Bad Poker" and "Born This Way" especially, a lot. Any contributions on Lady Gaga are welcomed. She sang the National Anthem very respectfully, she seems okay...

It is Reba's birthday, Reba McEntire, "Whoever's In New England":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es1xpUxrMhU&list=PLsNd9JcbXne73HQQBb6LzOV-N_v441rHe#)

It's Sally Carr's birthday, she sings for Middle of the Road, they had a '70s single that sold 10,000,000 copies, so one of the birthday links says there are not many singles like that.... with their hit, "Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep", it's like a children's song, I'm not even sure it was much of a hit in the USA. The band including Sally are from Scotland:
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGyPrmbgan0#)
Honestly, her trademark were hotpants, so this is a bit of a toned-down version, filmed on some show in West Germany I believe.

It's the birthday of famed harmonica player, Charlie McCoy, here is one of his albums, I do recall seeing this back in the day:
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHxE4DT_Jms#)

Dave Keuning of the Killers, there album went #1 in the USA and UK in 2017. "Mr. Brightside"
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGdGFtwCNBE&list=RDEMCa4ZRwGHEx7YkdtvgaZ0qQ#)

Tete Montenliu hailing from Catalonia - Piano Bolero:
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TU8cKM0bWk#)

John Evan of Jethro Tull, apparently, before Tull, he had his own band, The John Evan Band.
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPmhyr4E6PQ&list=RDEMz5NJ7lvZF03JenaoRK0wiA#)

Ged Grimes, Scottish band, Simple Minds, "Don't You (Forget About Me)":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdqoNKCCt7A#)

Milan Williams, keyboards for the Commodores, "3 times a lady", Lionel Richie in this video too:
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdaH2rd6gQM#)

Alf Clausen, orchestra leader for tv shows such as the "Simpsons":
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukqB16cqTsY#)
So, I've watched it from time to time, I'm not really in the know over there music.

Any additions are welcome, I feel enjoyment posting on some artists, bored with others, maybe grimace about others.

Birthdays today include Paul Whiteman, arguably the most popular jazz bandleader of the 1920s and the John Mayall of the decade,
considering how many stars-to-be served their apprenticeships or finishings in his band (Bix Beiderbecke, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy
Dorsey, Bing Crosby, and others) . . .

Direct from Havana...

(Song was in Carlito's Way)

Of course, a lot of shortwave listeners, DXers, wrote to Radio Havana Cuba, letters back to Americans were often stamped by the US Post Office, "We meet the challenge".

That said, the Radio Habana Cuba jingle was absolutely beautiful:

@DB
@EasyAce

Fine contributions,  I know one member here, where this Shortwave (SW) was discussed a bit in the past...I have listened to Radio Netherlands definitely, I use to visit there website too for news.

I also listened to the shortwave from Japan (Radio Nippon), Taiwan (Radio Taipei) ... and mostly, some of the "Christian" Evangelical stations including Family Radio via their main man who I believe was Harold Camping, a bit of a controversial figure. I ended up making some penpals per the SW radio.

We'll try to put more jingles up or something, Radio Habana really wasn't much on the propaganda side, they'd talk about their island mostly.

Some radio jingles and themes with which I grew up . . .

The Blue Barron Orchestra with the Blue Notes, "Listen to Lacy" (WINS)

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA5HTrTrz0s#)

(That from the years before WINS went all-news some time in 1964. Jack Lacy's theme was so popular in New York it was issued as a single!)

The Four Seasons, "Cousin Brucie Go-Go"

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBWVLIz6pqI#)

("Cousin Brucie," Bruce Morrow, was friendly enough with the Four Seasons that the Seasons' chief songwriter, keyboardsman/vocalist Bob Gaudio, wrote that jingle, and the Seasons cut it for his prime-time WABC show in the mid-to-late 1960s. The Seasons did the job before original bassist/vocal arranger Nick Massi left the group in 1965, though he continued to work as their vocal arranger until 1971.)[/url]

One of my all-time favourites, from WMCA, before they became a talk and then religious station:

"Wake Up with WMCA" (http://www.musicradio77.com/wmca/jingles/Blore/wakeup.wav)

March 29th Music Thread! All Music Welcomed

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/29 (https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/29)
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/search_result (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/search_result)

Seeing a few birthdays,

Hillbilly Pianist, Moon Mullican, "I'll Sail My Ship Alone":

Pearl Bailey, "St. Louis Blues", also, the 2nd video says she was appointed by President Nixon as an "Ambassador Of Love",
 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx6bVNiIs6A&list=RDEMGp7pPsQBg9NguYQpxQsxSQ#)

Moving on,

Irish singer Ruby Murray, I have heard a few of these songs,
"Softly, Softly":
She also does a fine version of that song, "Goodbye Jimmy":
Her last hit, #10 in the UK in 1959.

Astrud Gilberto who had the big hit with "Girl From Impanema", it seems everyone back then sang it...so maybe her's was among the first and she is Brazilian:
"Desafinado" with George Michael!

Ray Davis of Funkadelic and Chad Allen of the original Guess Who were born on this day, videos have been posted already in recent months.

Terry Jacks of "Seasons in the Sun" fame:
Part of the earlier Poppy family with "Which Way You Going Billy", decent top 40 material, nice twang to it:

Evangelos Papathanassiou known as Vangelis, with plenty of good music. I got one of his albums and it isn't even the famed "Chariots of Fire" (see below) music. I have that too. Inspirational.
"Intergalactic Radio Station":

Speedy Keen of Thunderclap Newman, the band that did "Something In The Air", I believe Tom Petty covered this as well:

So, this is a lot already on the platter, I may add on later, it is also the birthdays of

Sue Foley, country singer, "positively 4th street"...back to the blues, so she sings Bob Dylan, right...

and....

Lucy Lawless, none other than XENA: Warrior Princess!... So, maybe we will find something of her... they certainly made her one of the highlighted personalities of the day on the one website.

Friday March 30 2018 Music Thread
All Music Is Welcomed...

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/search_result (http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/search_result)

Sonny Boy Williamson, Eric Clapton, I'll let @EasyAce  do some of these honors, assuming he's around and everyone else is welcomed too.  Pookie18 as well, is very welcomed.

Some other birthdays today...

Frankie Laine, crooner category for me, singer of the famous "Rawhide" Theme...
"Moonlight Gambler":

Celine Dion, big name artist born on this day, "That's the way it is":
"The Power Of Love":

Ted Heath from Great Britain, a big-band leader, here doing "String Of Pearls":

Graeme Edge, the late drummer for the Moody Blues...here is the Graeme Edge band performing "Paradise Ballroom":

Birthdays also for these recently covered bands, Ken Forrsi of Love,  Jay Traynor of Jay and the Americans, so he is "Jay"? I guess we can get a video up...solo effort, "Up and Over":

Jim Dandy Mangum, singer of Black Oak Arkansas, born in Michigan, I never would have known, I've put on a few of their songs before, not too bad really. "When electricity came to Arkansas":
Could be that Mangum came from a family that migrated to Detroit when a lot of the auto-factory jobs were there.... Of course, there cover of "Jim Dandy To The Rescue" would be there most popular song...

Randy Van Warmer, "Just When I Need You Most":

For awhile, mainly in the '90s, there seemed to be the adult soft rock stations, I don't see those around too much anymore, they would play songs like that one by Randy Van Warmer, some might say a bit on the cheesy side, songs by Bread, Dan Hill, etc. .

MC Hammer, "Too Legit To Quit":

Norah Jones, "Come Away With Me":

I have a favorite Clapton song, so we will see what happens later.... more later....

Lefty Frizzel, born Corsicana, was born on this day...big influence, Merle Haggard gave tribute to him and Hank Williams.

Lefty Frizzel, born in March, 31 1928, so really, just 9 years older than Merle Haggard (Born April 6, 1937-April 6, 2016). Lefty influenced Haggard who had a huge influence on country music in general.

One of my all-time favourites, from WMCA, before they became a talk and then religious station:

"Wake Up with WMCA" (http://www.musicradio77.com/wmca/jingles/Blore/wakeup.wav)

I don't know if you are referring to the banner above but please don't gratuitously bash Christianity and Judaism.

@EasyAce   So, everyone doesn't think like you. I don't see folks bashing your beliefs.

Michael Murphy's birthday was March 14th,  I'm pretty sure, Geronimo's Cadillac and Wildfire were posted for him. I know that song has been posted previously so it must have been on his birthday
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Martin_Murphey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Martin_Murphey)    It was already posted but you already knew that.

The videos are slowly loading on this webpage or I would check.

April 2nd birthday, Leon Russel and other well known names... I may post that daily thread soon.

    I really didn't know that @TomSea @Michael Martin Murphy.
I'm thinking now some Boz Scaggs and his short tenure in Texas with Steve Miller before they both moved on to California.

Consider me humbled @TomSea.  I am sorry you feel that way about me~unkind (that cuts kinda deep).  I am unaware of the instance where you were called anything.  I have no beef with you or anyone else here for that matter and I will take this opportunity to sincerely Thank You for all you do here in Music particularly AND in the World Cat, you bring so much and for that I am Grateful.

PS: I started up the Blues Channel so we would quit butting heads in here with my risqué Videos.  There is no ulterior motive here Tom, I do truly respect your views, even politically, in spite of our differences.

I don't profess to be a Christian, nor am I insinuating you do, but there is no animosity or hate for you or anyone here in my soul, not even Wingy or Frank, who give me a hard time here, and I'm sorry if you think there is.
I will work on that because I value your friendship.
