House Democrats call on Biden to reinstate Title 42 and ‘Remain in Mexico’ immigration policies
By Social Links forVictor Nava

Five Democratic House lawmakers on Wednesday urged President Biden to reinstate Trump-era immigration policies to “bring order to the Southern border.”

In a joint statement, Reps. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.), Jared Golden (D-Maine), Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas) and Don Davis (D-NC) called on the 81-year-old president to use executive action to reimplement Title 42 and the so-called Remain in Mexico program.

Their plea comes after all five Democrats voted in favor of a border security bill put forward by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Saturday, which failed to garner the two-thirds majority support needed to pass.

The failed vote came on the same day the House passed a $95 billion spending bill for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and humanitarian aid in Gaza.

(The Center Square) -
Legislation proposing criminal charges for undocumented immigrants entering Louisiana has passed a committee in the House of Representatives.

The bill moving forward Wednesday from the Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice is similar to legislation in neighboring Texas. It passed the panel 7-4 and was opposed by the Southern Poverty Law Center and migrant groups.

Next would be a House floor vote.

The Senate, by 28-11 on April 9, has already passed Senate Bill 388 sponsored by Sen. Valarie Hodges, R-Denham Springs. If it becomes law, the governor could set up a border compact with Texas.

San Diego is now the top border region for migrant arrivals

WASHINGTON —  For the first time in decades, San Diego has become the top region along the southern border for migrant arrivals.

Migrant arrests in San Diego reached 8,989 for the week ending April 16, according to figures the agency posted on X. Meanwhile, Tucson — which previously had been the top region for crossings — had 7,500 arrests for the week ending April 19.

The numbers appear to be growing. San Diego Chief Border Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel wrote on X that 9,513 migrants were arrested as of Tuesday, a 36% increase from two weeks prior.

San Diego hasn’t been the top region for migrant arrests since at least October 1999, according to monthly agency figures. The last full year San Diego was the top region was 1997.

The shift is significant, said Adam Isacson, director for defense oversight at the Washington Office on Latin America, a research and advocacy organization.

It reflects changes in smuggling routes, which were consistent for many years but have begun to shift every few months since 2021, in part because of the post-pandemic increase in global migration to the U.S.

Greg Abbott Celebrates Legal Win Over Texas Border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has celebrated the decision by a Texas grand jury to indict 141 migrants on misdemeanor rioting charges, a day after a county judge ruled there was insufficient probable cause to press charges.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Abbott said it was "excellent work" by the grand jury to "overrule the judge's lenience."

The Context
On March 21, a group of migrants broke through some of the border defenses near El Paso in Texas following which they were arrested. Footage captured by New York Post reporter Jennie Taer showed the migrants tearing down a fence and forcing their way past a group of uniformed men—who appeared to be National Guard soldiers—before reaching a more robust barrier.

According to El Paso District Attorney Bill Hicks, around 221 people were arrested over the incident during which several Texas National Guard soldiers were injured.

On Sunday, Magistrate Judge Humberto Acosta ruled that "all the rioting participation cases will be released on their own recognizance," according to The El Paso Times.

However, the decision was overturned on Monday by a grand jury. El Paso County District Attorney Bill Hicks said: "The citizens of El Paso, through the grand jury, essentially overruled the judge's ruling and found probable cause to believe that the riots did occur."

There have been concerns about potential ties to the Chinese Communist Party and the movement of fentanyl
The number of Chinese nationals crossing the US-Mexico border has increased by more than 6,000 per cent.

Chinese nationals entering the United States illegally and stopped by Border Patrol so far this fiscal year has already exceeded 24,000.

According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, in the first six months of fiscal year 2024, which began in October, Border Patrol had caught 24,296 Chinese nationals crossing illegally between ports of entry. That exceeds the 24,125 caught in all of fiscal year 2023.

For comparison, in fiscal 2022, there were just 1,987 apprehensions, and in fiscal 2021 there were just 342. However, that only includes those those entering illegally between ports of entry. Including ports of entry, there have been 41,970 encounters, compared to 52,700 in fiscal 2023.

PETER MURPHY: If you like your appliances, you can't keep them, according to Joe Biden
by: Peter Murphy 04/22/2024

In the name of supposed efficiency and saving the planet from the fatuous prediction of a 1.5 degree average temperature increase in the next 26 years (give or take), the Biden administration has from its beginning declared war on Americans’ household appliances. As with so many other policies in the administration’s global warming arsenal, mandating invariably higher-cost household items is another dagger at Americans’ family budgets.

Last month, the U.S. Department of Energy released final “energy efficiency” requirements for residential washers and dryers that it claims will save consumers $39 billion in the next 30 years and reduce 71 metro tons of “harmful carbon emissions” over the same period, opined Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm. More fantastical than these numbers is her assertion that American households will reap $1 trillion (!) from forcing Americans to scrap all the household appliances in the administration’s crosshairs.

This is the same Secretary Granholm who lied to Congress about holding stocks in companies over which she has federal jurisdiction, and failed to disclose such holdings – yet kept her job. But I digress.

Bidenomics ? ‘Green Jobs’ Vanish As New York’s Offshore Wind Debacle Killed
by Amy Furr  3 hours ago

People hoping to find work assembling offshore wind turbine engines and blades at the Port of Coeymans in New York are out of luck. [emphasis, links added]

State and corporate executives previously said there may have been around 870 high-paying jobs at the site, the Times Union reported Monday.

The work would have involved assembling the engines and blades built by GE Vernova and LM Wind Power.

However, the Union report said both of the offshore wind farms wanting to utilize the area for the work scrapped those plans, and the jobs disappeared with that decision.
