I voted for none of the above.

If I got the opportunity to speak directly with the president I would ask him if he knew there is a single bill (HR25) currently languishing in the W&M Committee  that would accomplish his entire economic agenda if passed into law.

Wouldn't even know. A caller ID that says 'US Government' or 'President of the United States' goes right to the ether. Unrecognized, or not-in-my-contacts goes to voice mail.

If this girl called I'd definitely recommend she take the Ambassadorship that Chairman Romney is suggesting, somewhere far away that don't matter, perhaps she can Capitalize China.

We've had so many spoofed calls, my first reaction would be "Yeah, Right, talk to the beep!"

But let's say I did answer.... Veto any further infringement of the RKBA, no matter how it is presented. You're already on double secret probation over bump stocks. Get turtle and the rest to start pushing for the wall and serious border control, ditch the ACA, fire all the pukes in the FBI and DOJ who have been covering for Hillary and investigate the lot of them, including her. One more thing. Have the IRS restore the Form 2106 employee business expense deductions. There's a pile of folks out here who have to drive their vehicles in the conduct of their non-government jobs, and you're taxing the money they have to spend to keep those vehicles running, from gas to repairs. They also are required by their jobs to spend the night elsewhere than home on occasion, and they can't take any deductions for that, either. I still keep those records, for my own purposes, so I'm ready when you do. Thanks.

My business line is more junk calls than business. It is entirely out of hand. Thankfully, I handle more through skype and email than I do phone anymore.

I only have a smartphone, no landline.  Any numbers I don't recognize, I don't answer.  If the call is legit, the party can leave a voice mail.  If the same number calls multiple times and doesn't leave a message, I block it.  Much of the time the blocking doesn't work because scammers spoof their numbers.  What's really curious is that I often get calls that show up on caller id as having my area code and prefix, but the last four digits are different.

So if Trump ever called me, he would have to leave a message.  And if he kept on calling me without leaving a message, I'd have to block him.

By the way, Do Not Call is totally useless.  Just wait till we get closer to the primaries and general election next year.  I'll be getting recorded messages from Trump and every other Republican out there.   Already getting their junk mail.

You've accomplished your goal of shaking up the body politic,  and providing a voice for working citizens, and prosperity for their families.    The next step is to build on that start,  and cement your legacy.   That can best be accomplished by focusing the electorate on that populist/conservative message,  not on your personality and the Dems' game of using you to gin up hate.   Step down, sir, with the thanks of those who are working today because of your policies.    Return to your family and businesses,  and live out the rest of your days secure in the knowledge that you made a difference.   There is nothing to be gained from political martyrdom.   Step down, and throw your support to someone who can defeat the Dems and continue the cause you began.

Thank you.  I knew that.  Also, charities are exempt.   Or anyone you have dealt with before.

And businesses violate the law with impunity.  You can complain and they might get a slap on the wrist.  But they will continue to call you.  I know of  one that does.  It just uses a different number each time to call me.  After reporting this company several times with no meaningful result, I just don't answer calls from a number I don't know.

Yeah, technology has sort of obsoleted the DNC concept....  the ability to spoof the Calling Party Number and route the call via many hops with no accountability, has essentially destroyed the enforcement mechanism....  can't lay that $16,000 fine on someone that you can't find.....  only honest businesses now comply.....

I don't know what they think they'll get from it... Pestering folks like they do...
As an example, strictly because of their cold calling every_other_day, continuing to call back every time 3 or 4 times, even though I 'ether' em... I finally picked up the phone and told the Red Cross that they pissed me off so dang bad that I will never ever give em a thin dime again.

And I do mean it.

Considering the state of politics, who are you going to replace him with?

LOL! I stopped contributing to them after a 'disaster relief' van of theirs failed to yield, speeding, T-boned my vehicle, and they didn't even want to pay for may car. The ensuing concussion would have ended my grad school stint if I hadn't decided to drop out and go to work already. Later I found out from vets, from WWII, Korea, and Nam, that the contents of their Red Cross packages were (more often than not) 'available for purchase'...and these guys were in combat.

It had reached the point where we were getting as many as 5 calls an hour, all day long, until I finally answered with "We will make no donations based on a phone call. If you have my phone number, you have my address. Mail out something and we'll decide and respond as we see fit. No one, and I mean no one, got anything from a phone call, and they eventually trailed off. In the meantime, we had lots of address labels, a few gee-gaws, and plenty of paper to start the fireplace.

The funny thing is, They STILL call all the time. Didn't change a dang thing.
I don't get what the percentage is in that... Sometimes I wonder if they aren't intentionally trying to get rid of land lines. Nothing else makes any sense.

My caller ID calls out the number. If I don't know it, the 'beep' picks up. Most hang up then. If it's something serious, I'll get the message and respond. Life is good.

I seriously want to start a website that lists all the companies that use telemarketing and compiles a searchable database of numbers used.  It would be a great way for consumers to impose personal boycotts based on who annoys them with phone calls.

Same here, 701 area code, call the number back, and most of the time it is 'not in service'. On a couple of occasions they blew it and used active numbers, but those folks claimed to have no idea what was going on. Even the State AG's office said they have a hard time prosecuting anyone over it because the numbers are spoofed.

It's impossible, because the scammers operate from outside the US.  That's why the "do not call" registry is such a joke.

That is becoming problematic too - I have twice now had to go through banned numbers on my phone because a spoofed number in the past has become a legit number trying to reach me.

It's going to turn into a crap shoot whether or not you'll be able to call anyone not in your inner circle... This local spoofing messes up blocking.

That drives me crazy, too, especially when the caller ID displays as "cell phone".  My kids sometimes call me from a friend's cell phone when they're out and about and have let their own phone batteries die, so I have no way to know if it's a telemarketer or a legitimate call.

The ones where they spoof my own telephone number back also greatly irritate me.

What I am looking at is the percentage in that...
I can't believe they are making any sales to speak of, using deceptive practices and pissing people off... It's no more valid a marketing platform than blowing a thousand popups onto your computer desktop - I can guarantee that I am not much different than anyone else in that respect - I will not give them any satisfaction, for the intrusion alone... Not to mention calling at dinner time, or before 9am, or on the Sabbath...

So I doubt very much there are enough sales in it to matter. Something else is going on.

I don't get it either, @roamer_1.  Seems to me the last thing a salesman would want to do is enrage the prospect.  But what else could it be?  Establishing a list of "known" phone numbers?  Hacking you if you answer?

@Cyber Liberty
I don't know the purpose. But it can't be what it seems IMHO... Look back at the advertising through invasive trojans as an instance... Nobody was buying that crap, and the owner/prospect got the benefit of paying someone like me a hundred or two to clean their system up too... It was never about sales.

But it did expose flaws in a nationwide system... and caused people to scream for a more locked down system... To the point now, nearing completion, where everyone will be ID'd before being granted access. It FEELS more free, but as an instance, anything you do from your phone, 'they' know exactly who you are, and where you are...

I don't know, like I said. Just thinking out loud.

Most of them are automated, with a "press 2 to speak to an a-hole in India".  Virtually no cost to them to make millions of calls.  Only need the tiniest percentage to bite.

There's that.  There will always be people who bite the hook when they get a call about a family member in jail needing Bond, or the cops are on the way to your house within the hour because of an IRS bill.

Later I found out from vets, from WWII, Korea, and Nam, that the contents of their Red Cross packages were (more often than not) 'available for purchase'...and these guys were in combat.

...

My late father, a WWII vet, would corroborate your statement.  He said the Salvation Army handed out supplies, cigarettes and such for free, while the Red Cross charged for these things.  Dad didn't trust most charities; always said they were crooks.  But he had high praise for the Salvation Army and even donated to them.  After he passed on, I started donating in his memory and still do.

Red Cross is notorious for that.  Mrs. Liberty's ex was a cop, and they would charge them for the coffee and donuts served to the line officers during riots and other civil disturbances like natural disasters.

Same here.  The Salvation Army is my go-to whenever I want to contribute to a specific event or cause.

Quote
ARC is a labor intensive organization with $1.414 billion (or 54% of revenue) spent on salaries, pensions, benefits, and payroll taxes for the 21,435 employees (which equates to about $70,000 per employee). Most revenue is going to support the staff and office costs associated with collecting, testing, and distributing biomedical supplies so high staff expenses are to be expected.

1,248 employees received more than $100,000 in total compensation.

Build the darn wall already, no red flag laws, and no infringement on the 2A, and for heaven's sake Mr. President, do yourself a huge favor and get Jared and the Princess out of the White House!

So the fee for coffee and donuts is to subsidize the blood operation (which I'd be fine with) and over half is for salaries that are higher than the average for regular, private-sector workers (which I am not)?

I volunteered for the RC for a couple of years. Our chapter didn't charge anybody anything. But the disorganization made me crazy. I'm sure that is true with any large organization composed of volunteers. I only lasted a couple of years. I took the whole thing seriously...many didn't.

My Dad, also a WWII vet, said the same thing. He was appalled when he found out that I was volunteering. I also donate to the SA.

You are a wise one @berdie!  The Salvation Army's administrative overhead is minuscule compared to that of the AMC.

I have wondered if this is one of those "Make a gozillion dollars in a month in your spare time from home scams. Some sucker would be provided (for a fee) with the software to spoof, the voice track, etc.

But who in their right mind would deal with someone who cold calls from a spoofed number, anyway?

Besides, if they can't given me an extended warranty on my '41, they are of no use to me. All my vehicles are old enough to vote, and about half could go in the bars....

There's that.  There will always be people who bite the hook when they get a call about a family member in jail needing Bond, or the cops are on the way to your house within the hour because of an IRS bill.
The IRS sends letters. They don't start anything with a phone call.
You can't legally participate in and win a foreign lottery, especially one you didn't enter.
There are more Nigerian Princes than Cherokee Princesses....but don't expect them to be real.
If they want you to pony up money, deposit a check and send them some cash, or are offering something for free, don't, don't, and they won't, as a rule.

I dunno what it is... I just know what it ain't. Nobody is buying anything from someone spoofing the ID and cold calling with such rude insistence.

During the flood, (Grand Forks, ND, 1979) we were out on a dike in East Grand Forks. Seven of us unloaded and set seven semi loads of sandbags in the rain, pushing a bulge out of the polyethylene liner in the dike.

The only other people we saw before daylight were in a Salvation Army mobile canteen food truck, who stopped, fed us a hot meal and gave us coffee.
They have received donations from us whenever we were able to give, and for years we were involved in setting up toy runs for kids through them as well.

My mother, in her 90's got hit with both the "Your Grandson is in jail" and "The IRS agents are on the way to arrest you" scams.  Also a pigeon drop, where she was told she won a bunch of money, but she had to send them the tax on it before she could claim it.  I told her, "No way, Jose!" so she told them they have permission to deduct the tax and send her the balance.  LOL.

It's important that those of us who have elderly loved ones warn them about these scams.  I have an elderly aunt who used to be rather sharp about these things, but I think her mental faculties are declining.  Since her husband passed away and she has no children, I've taken it upon myself to warn her  about every scam I hear about.

Yes, the spoofing of a local number is really insidious for older people....  they certainly want to answer the phone thinking that it is a call from a neighbor, or maybe a local business that they deal with.....  adding that to the fact that a lot of older folks that are a bit lonely, are actually eager to answer the phone.....  just to talk to someone....

Very cruel and evil.

I did that too @Applewood, for the last couple of years of my company (retired 10/16) I came to the conclusion that are some people, no matter how well off or intelligent, think the 'Circus is in town' all the time.   How they got this far in life with that amount of naiveté is beyond my comprehension.

Somehow that sort of activity is on the wane WRT my phones. It seems they don't much care for my practice of just laying the phone down and seeing how long it takes for the other end to realize there is nobody listening.

If you will pick it back up every few minutes, and say:  "hold on, I'm almost done", you can stretch that out for a while.
