BRICS? Really?

BRICS was just an example.  It could be Gold, Silver, Petrochemical-dollars, whatever. At least something that has tangible value.  Which is why the supposed proposed BRICS would be on not "good faith" /s, but rather on Farm commodites (Russia), Oil (OPEC), Diamond and Gold, (South Africa), and Rare Earth Minerals (China)

You really don't think being the reference currency doesn't come without perks and advantages?  You wrongly ignore the depth and breadth of the debt spiral. You are comparing several countries whose currency, finanacial stability, and status is based on merit.  Versus ours, which is the one that is predicated on the Fed printing more $USD.

I am happy you are bullish on U.S prospects.  Keep up the good work.   :silly:

The Boy Scouts of America are changing their name “to welcome every youth and family in America,” a press release by the organization said Tuesday.

The new name of the organization will be Scouting America, the press statement reads. The name change will be formalized on Feb. 8, 2025, a date which marks the 115th anniversary of the incorporation of the organization.

Boy Scouts of America started to accept women into its “Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA programs” five years ago and currently serves over 176,000 girls and young women, the organization said. More than 6,000 of these have received the rank of Eagle Scout. Boy Scouts of America announced it was changing the name of its flagship program to Scouts BSA in 2018 to highlight the entrance of girls and young women.

“Though our name will be new, our mission remains unchanged: we are committed to teaching young people to be Prepared. For Life,” Roger A. Krone, president and CEO of Scouting America, said, the press release reads. “This will be a simple but very important evolution as we seek to ensure that everyone feels welcome in Scouting.” ...

I carried a Case Trapper  for many years, but I changed over to carrying a Benchmade 710 McHenry & Williams around ten years ago.

There's a bit of discussion about this item on the Jokes/Humor thread. My comment there was: The TSA morons still will seize the knifeless Swiss Army non-knife. Those tiny little scissors are a weapon, y'know. TSA seized my then-80 y/o mother's nail scissors when we were en route to Mayo Clinic for her cancer checkup.  She seemed dangerous to them.

The scissors on this new Victorinox knifeless thing appear to be longer than what they took away from my mother, so I'd be surprised if TSA lets them remain in a carry on bag.

Trump will get all 40 electoral votes in Texas and Cruz is coasting in also.  So, it doesn't matter if I sit this one out too.
If I lived in a Swing State I would advocate for Trump.

@corbe

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I found the results of the three last major polls in Texas pretty remarkable.....

                     Cruz             Trump
                   --------          --------

Univ of TX      +13              +8
Cygnal            +9               +9
Marist             +6               +11

All 3 polls - April '24

As the debt sprials further, watch other factions of nations convert to a different currency (i.e BRICS) Then watch us wither into a 3rd world economic power in about the space of 10-12 months

BRICS? Really?

China is collapsing and going back to an authoritarian police state. The best and brightest are leaving the country in droves as with Western companies.. Would you invest your currency there?

Russia?  Losing population in droves through abortion, war and emigration and also going back to an authoritarian police state.  What world class product or service does Russia make? What computer or hardware system sold throughout the world? What airplane worlds economies buy? What construction equipment world economies buy? What car is produced that the world buys?

India?   Bureaucracy and red tape out the wazoo, corruption out the wazoo that Westerners cannot fathom.. All their best and brightest are moving towards the West.

Brazil? Really??

Why are all the hi tech companies moving to the US?  Record amount of foreign investment in the US in 2023, 5.5 million new business startups in the US 2023, all 10 of the largest private space programs are now in the US ,a significant amount of health care inventions and procedures are growing in the US after a many decade decline.

We have challenges but will overcome our problems.

It looks that way. For starters, we have a president whose economic advisor is clueless about basic economics

But Trump supporters here think that the reason why many of us are not going vote for him this fall is because we’re upset that he added a couple bucks onto the debt. He actually added more onto the debt in dollar amount in the shortest amount of time than any president before him with the debt to GDP ratio that was already over 100%. But that’s just one reason

His economic record as president wasn’t all that great. Or at least not as great as the supporters try to make it out to be. And many of his proposals for a second term, if enacted, will make things worse. His advisors are also planning ways to devalue the dollar should he win a second term

Trump needs to become aware of the history of Smoot Hawley Tariff Act

If Trump wins, his supporters would win a battle, but would ultimately lose the war

Let me put it bluntly and I know it's going to be unpopular.  Trump made GW Bush look like a deficit hawk. There I said it.

Trump lucked out with the economy before the COVID lockdowns of 2020 and you are right it wasn't that great. It was OK, but it wasn't that spectacular.  I don't think that Trump either doesn't care about the consequences of the Smoot Hawley Tariff Act or doesn't know the history.
